I like the mix of classic with whimsy. This red sapphire pendant is $10k on 1stDibs 😬
Certainly one of France's premier ateliers in the 19th & most of the 20th century before closing in 1985.

Henri Roidot was a Belgian painter specifically of landscapes, with works going for up to $3525 as per the Mutualart database, https://www.mutualart.com/Artist/Henri-Roidot/7FF7CE9391163A05
This is a sofa cabinet or cabinet settee what is definitely Continental ie European & is likely to be at the tail end of Art Nouveau, ie early 20th century. They're fairly unique & because of that, rare. The designers were operating at the quality end of the furniture ateliers, like Louis Majorelle, who made a few,
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=louis%20majorelle%20art%20nouveau%20cabine-%20settee&ko=-1&ia=images&iax=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fi.pinimg.com%2F736x%2F5c%2Fe9%2Fad%2F5ce9add05a7e5be2e7a46411ae0ce308.jpg
Then there's other countries who had similar, https://antikvariats.lv/sofa-cabinet-in-art-nouveau-style
https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/storage-case-pieces/cabinets/josef-maria-olbrich-music-room-settee-cabinet-darmstadt-germany-made-c1900/id-f_6345303/
I think it's probable that this is a Belgian model, best dated by looking at the age of Henri Roidot's paintings, which now I think must be original to the piece. It really needs someone with a deep appreciation of Art Nouveau furniture & Low Country painters to really give an accurate assessment, which I could not do.
It's unique enough that I'd be sending pictures to the "Big Three" for appraisal...

It’s in great condition, just needs a wipe down. The only one I could find identical is on 1stdibs for $1100. I can’t find another identical one. It’s hard for me to believe the $1100 price. But any advice on finding someone with knowledge of tzedakah pushka boxes?
If that's indeed the case, then you're very lucky.
I think you \*might\* have a pair of these: [Antique Italian Polychrome Picket Table Lamps](https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/lighting/table-lamps/antique-italian-polychrome-pricket-table-lamps-pair/id-f_45222262/?gad_campaignid=22295945470&gbraid=0AAAAADhpJtVO49kdpcQpaINRAR4pzMn42). At the same time, there were a lot of reproductions of these made in Italy in the early 1900s.
We can confidently guess when they came over and were converted. The lamp sockets and chains are explicitly American from 1915-1935ish.
The next step is to try and find any nails in the construction. Flip them over and look for the nails. In the actual candlestick part, do you see any? If they're thin, round, and uniform they're newer wire nails, which point to this being a reproduction. If they are rectanglular looking nails, those are called cut nails, and that's firmly 1800s. If you find hand forged nails (they will look handmade), then it's pre 1800s.
My educated guess is that you have a pair of legitimate alter sticks (pricket sticks) that were converted into a lamp in America somewhere around 1925. If your relative says they were expensive at the time of purchase, I think you've got something real and not one of the reproductions.

Alright, a few more thoughts:
- Italian brocade can be really top of the line expensive, though I don't know enough to distinguish at a glance how near the ceiling yours might be. Skilled artisans, hand-loomed, antique equipment, that stuff adds up.
- How bespoke are they? I mean, was he picking the size of the panel or the colors or was the pattern itself bespoke? That's all money spent.
- I mean, there's some elite tier textile houses in Florence. Here's an example of a company that's still in business today, Antico Setificio Fiorentino. https://www.1stdibs.com/introspective-magazine/antico-setificio-fiorentino/
- Is the rest of the house decorated in this tier of finery or is it (no judgement) a bit more of, like, this was one extreme splurge in an otherwise modest home? Genuinely that person who said "we'll sell it with the house!" can have a point with that.
- I don't have a price estimate for you, but your best bet might be to contact some high-end furniture dealers in major old centers of wealth like Chicago or NY. I don't imagine this is easy to sell. I'm seeing somewhat similar silk brocade panel sets sold for/asking like $5,000 on 1stdibs. I do not know firsthand how much of that the retailer you'd be consigning with (or w/e) keeps and how much you take home.
- You're talking something quite niche and not growing in demand. I really have no idea the precise worth.
Sorry, I don't have much advice but hopefully that helps point you in a fairly helpful direction.
I can see a world where your dad paid $30k in Florence and didn't get hosed. I don't think you'll be getting $30k return at all unless there's some serious goldwork that I'm not seeing.

This is very overpriced as these slag lamps with minimal detail do not sell for this much
You can check completed auctions on eBay or other internet sources that are not hoping for unrealistic prices - e.g. Chairish and 1stDibs.
This isn't a finely detailed beautifully done shade like the really desirable ones
It probably isn't a reproduction because the brand isn't worth reproducing so it is authentic - but not everything vintage is worth what someone is asking.
I could be wrong but I don't think the brand has reached coveted collectible status in which even not great designs command a premium price.
But like anything if you like it and can afford it then buy it.

This bag looks better than the authentic I saw on 1st dibs.
You and Jim make a dynamic team!
Are you sad to leave the islands with your job transfer?
I mean California is nice but after seeing your island pictures I wonder…
Yes - that was the primary reason for my questioning of its authenticity. Only examples with oval center stone are from Poshmark, eBay, 1stdibs and the like
You’ll see some pretty crazy listing prices online, especially if you look on Etsy and 1stdibs, but that varies heavily based on venue.
Size, color, and design also play a huge role. Colors like blues and greens are the most valuable and oranges and yellows are usually the least desirable. Very ornate designs will sell for more than simple ones or pieces with no cameo decoration (mottled glass by itself was somewhat popular in lesser pieces). For Art Noveau, if a piece has animals, insects, or especially spiders or bats, it will command a premium.
The height/size is also directly a multiple of value. My rule of thumb with standard Galle vases for example is that I can usually expect to get about $100/inch for most normal pieces that didn’t have any special attributes.
For a piece like this, I’d roughly expect the following:
- Estate sale: $500
- Auction: $800-1000
- Antique Store: $1,000-1,500
- High end gallery: $2,000-2,500
Auction prices are probably the most realistic estimate for a piece like this since you can sell for that price relatively quickly. At a gallery, a piece could sit for years before finding a buyer at such a high price, so even though it’s possible to sell for double, there’s a question of realism in those prices at the end of the day.

**Greetings, Office workers, Freeloaders and Workoholics!**
***
With the world slowly being consumed by this thing we call "AI", it is important to get off the couch and out of the virtual world, into the real world to get some hard earned mon-eh. As such, this month's contest theme is:
##**Make an artwork about anything related to work or a job!**
***
**Specific Contest Rules**
* **Work has to be depicted.** Of course, it's the theme so it should be representing it clearly. For inspiration, check the announcement artwork above, or the examples below.
* **You can draw work related events.** What this would be is for example, a conversation between coworkers, a worker taking a break, a workplace accident etc. BUT, if you are to do this you should still make it clear what the job or work is as stated above.
***
**Examples**
You can take inspiration from some of these polandballart and real life paintings for this contest:

- [**You must follow the official polandball tutorial.**](http://i.imgur.com/dcW9rpR.png#red-text)
- Remember that in /r/polandballart all posts must have only one panel.
- Only use dialogue if it makes sense aesthetically (caption, sign, etc.).
- Try and be high effort. You have two whole weeks to draw, so do your best.
- The artwork must be drawn entirely by yourself.
- Do not sign your artwork.
- The artwork has to be original. No reposts from previous PB related contests.
- The deadline for submitting your entry is [**29th of May at 20:00 GMT.**](http://timee.io/20260529T2000?tl=Contest+Deadline)
In order to participate in the contest, submit your art piece to the subreddit and then flair it as [contest entry.](https://www.reddit.com/r/polandballart/#contest-entry) Anyone is free to submit how many entries they like, however, only one of your entries will be eligible to award you with a beret. That is, a single user cannot have more than one entry be in the top three.
***
**Choosing the winner**
After all of the entries have been submitted and the deadline has passed, the moderators will take a private vote to decide the first, second and third places. All entries will be ranked from 1 to 10, with the final score being the average of all votes. The winner of last month's contest will also be allowed to vote on this month's entries.
The user who takes the first place in the contest will be awarded the **Golden Beret** and will have their art piece decorating the sidebar of the subreddit until the next contest is announced! They will also be able to post their winning work on /r/polandball using a special Polandballart flair, and they will also have voting rights for the next contest.
The second and third places will receive the **Silver Beret** and the **Bronze Beret**, respectively, and they will also get to wear them until the next contest.

I have an AA in Interior Design and have always been super-interested in design in general. I think there are too many beautiful styles to choose if they're well-executed and a space is done up with obvious love!
Personally, I vibe a lot with English cottage and French country with antiques, and coastal/nautical-but-dark is all over my Pinterest, but unfortunately, I only have one house. There are modern rooms I really admire, too!
The only thing I don't dig is when something is too trendy; that gets dated really fast. I have a friend who doesn't get attached to things and redoes her house every few years. She has good taste, but that is just foreign to me. I've had the same [mahogany Duncan Phyfe dining table](https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/dining-room-tables/english-regency-style-mahogany-dining-table/id-f_47302382/) - exactly like that one, for almost 30 years (I paid $175 for it at an antique shop.)

If it's attributed correctly to René Paul Chambellan (an absolutely amazing sculptor), and it was actually on a building, then it may be as valuable as the site is hyping. The one shown is in pristine condition, though.
EDIT: The OP found someone willing to spend $1,600 for it, so the site wasn't far off, especially given the difference in condition. Not that you're wrong either of course, it could have sold for that because someone saw the 1stdibs entry and thought that's what it was worth, self fulfilling price quote.

It’s a relatively common style, and there are similar examples for sale on EBay, Chairish, 1stDibs etc. listed anywhere from $500-3000. Condition and whether it works can affect value. Keep in mind that the highest prices you’ll see are from websites that have items substantially marked up as the dealer and those websites have to make money. If you were to sell it yourself, I’d expect to get less.

hmm. there was one on 1stdibs and the listing description says cotton and silk. I’m assuming the cotton correlated to the ribbons and silk is the fabric. it’s hard to tell by that image but it doesn’t seem like a knit. Since Ann D clothes are generally worn into being distressed for that bohemian look I would guess it was some kind of silk habotai. And the way the top is worn there’s a lot of tension from the ribbons stabilizing the hang so the discs won’t weigh down on the silk as much. that’s just my guess.

I did some searching and found the original painting. I’m starting to get into collecting studio pottery and ceramic pieces, n I’m specifically looking to buy large chinese vases from people who already own or trade them. I prefer buying directly from collectors or individuals rather than retail shops coz it feels like there’s usually more transparency about condition and how the pieces have been handled over time. Most of what I’m interested in are tall floor vases with traditional forms and detailed glaze work. Ideally pieces that still feel authentic rather than heavily reproduced decor items. Since I’m still fairly new to collecting, I’m trying to understand how experienced collectors here evaluate quality, especially when buying secondhand from other members. I’ve been browsing different marketplaces and community posts to get a sense of pricing and styles.I even checked a few Alibaba, Etsy, eBay, Chairish, and even 1stDibs listings just to compare how similar designs are produced at scale. That helped me spot some obvious differences, but it also made me realize I still have a lot to learn about what matters most when judging a piece in person versus online photos. For collectors here, when you’re selling or trading large chinese vases, what information do you usually include to help buyers feel confident about condition, authenticity, and fair value before making a decision?

I have just purchased this diamond bracelet with and integrated covered watch (underneath the round centre section).
Unfortunately the watch mechanism and face are heavily damaged and not operational. It is not possible to see the brand of the watch because the face is in poor enough condition that you can't read any brand (if any is listed).
I have found a number of similar pieces (example [\#1](https://www.mgsignedjewelry.com/HAMILTON-1950s-Platinum-Diamond-Covered-Dial-Integral-Bracelet-Watch_p_4967.html), [\#2](https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/watches/wrist-watches/vintage-750ct-diamond-hamilton-cover-watch-bracelet/id-j_27138412/), [\#3](https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/watches/wrist-watches/hamilton-vintage-platinum-diamond-hidden-face-cocktail-bracelet-watch/id-j_28018902/), [\#4](https://eragem.com/ac61478.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqVmhpVYOmp7mtg3SmK_Nz5k8gp-CX5iFIU8UPz1O-LWGnBEe6E), [\#5](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/156482057204?_trkparms=itmf%3D1%26aid%3D1110006%26rkt%3D5%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26mech%3D1%26algv%3DDefaultOrganicWebV9BertRefreshRankerWithCassiniEmbRecall%26pmt%3D0%26amclksrc%3DITM%26sd%3D205740915864%26sid%3DAQALAAAAEKdc%2F3oVDCSxa%2FZkHapI3Gw%3D%26itm%3D156482057204%26noa%3D1%26brand%3DHamilton%26asc%3D20200818143230%26ao%3D1%26rk%3D1%26pid%3D101224%26b%3D1%26mehot%3Dnone%26lsid%3D0%26meid%3D73909c5afff843d89c03d496a48f21ba%26pg%3D2332490&_trksid=p2332490.c101224.m-1)) I have deducted it is likely a circa 1950s Hamilton watch. I couldn't find a maker's mark for the exact jeweller.
As the watch itself is not operational, I will need to have it restored.
From what I've told, sourcing Hamilton parts isn't the easiest where I live so I'm wondering, will it negatively impact the value of this piece if I have the watch mechanism replaced with any swiss component that fits?
I don't intend to sell it (I bought this for my 30th birthday) but it is such a breathtaking piece it would be nice to one day have this be a family heirloom, particularly if in my lifetime it will become antique if my research on estimated dating is correct.

because studying architects get brainwashed into loving these pretentious "clean" designer furniture pieces that are unneccessarily expensive. but are totally most definitely worth it because they surely retain their price because other architects are gonna want these too either for prestige or theyre oh so worth it because theyre modular in design or particularly well stackable or some other interior-nerd shit. (i say nerd shit in an endearing way. nerds are cool. i just dont always understand them.)

Designer here. I think that your rug might have come from Doris Leslie Blau. I assume yours is also English as well. This is on 1stDibs for 16K.
Doris was a famous rug dealer in that opened her showroom in 1965. She even supplied rugs for museums. She loved unusual and amusing rugs. I really wish I could have seen her place.
"She established her reputation by taking 12 rugs from a divorce settlement and turning them into a premier Manhattan gallery, changing the landscape of antique rug collecting." Shrewd business woman.
Don't let anyone walk on that rug.
Edit: for spelling

IMO, it really depends on the budget. You can search on ebay for fixtures (add search terms like brass, pipe, industrial, ribbed glass) and can find a ton of cheap ones that look like quality from a distance. I like to call those 50 footers.
Alternatively, take a look at etsy or 1stdibs for vintage or vintage lookalike fixtures. I've found some really great looking items for pretty reasonable prices.
I've purchased a ton of fixtures from edisonlightglobes.com and while pricey (especially shipping) they have some incredible designs for somewhat reasonable prices.

As an accidental mid century modern furniture collector, I can promise you 1stDibs is going to go bankrupt. They might have some of the best condition examples of antiques but they are listed \~100% higher than you can find on a public market. The only people that would purchase from them are so wealthy they value the time more than the money. I would buy puts but there's no volume.

I think that might also explain the "missing" hardware for the two middle units. I believe that hardware was removed to support the rear of the other units.

Go to 1stdibs.com and find some cool paintings, lithographs or other art. Add some cool mood lighting. Plants. Check out home decor on the MOMA website. Add texture to your space.
Their shipping quotes are really insane. The cost and time for delivery are so outrageous that I canceled several potential purhcases. AS an example, I wanted to purchase a perfume bottle for a negotiated price a little over $300 but the shipping to Europe was almost 3 x the cost, almost $1000 with a 3 to 7 weeks delivery. Absurd
I friend wanted to buy something from a dealer located in Long Island City and the shipping time to his place in Manhattan was 3 to 6 weeks. You can't make this up. I can't image a dealer or a buyer would want to loose a sale based on unrealistic 1stdibs shipping quotations when Wayfair will do it for nothing, almost next day!

eBay treats sellers like they’re Amazon, and will approve a return even if you don’t accept returns. Buyers can even claim “item not as described” and get a green flag to return with an item that goes through eBay’s authentication service before it ships to the buyer. There’s no protection for sellers, and there’s nothing you can do. [they did this to me, and lost my business forever]
I would consign with an auction house’s jewelry box auction that happens once a month or so. The one you bought it from would very likely be happy to sell it again. Maybe bump up the reserve price to cover the buyer’s premium you paid.
That or reach out to a luxury boutique jewelry vendor that has a store front on 1stdibs or instagram. We have one locally that will consign items. Their prices are typically much higher than an auction house.
It’s a lovely ring!

That is so awesome, but a very steep price! I just looked it up to see if they were indeed price gouging and I found it listed (similar) at Etsy $795, identicle atCirca Who $900, and 1stDibs $1,800. It apparently is a vintage/antique ottoman. The question then, would be if this is vintage or a replica by richard berg.
Was it on 1stDibs or Etsy? If so, you should know those sites are often overpriced by a factor of 3-4x if not more. In this case, I’d say it’s way more than 3-4x. There is no way any piece of furniture by Pearsall is worth even $5k let alone $30k. The man was a ripoff artist as a designer who rarely put any thought about functionality into his designs. Then there’s the quality aspect on the build of his furniture which is way below what you’d expect from items in the price range people try to get for Pearsall designs.

I don’t know what kind of style your decor is but there was a style of chair in mid century modern that is like gondola (ski lift) chair. It’s the sage green chair on top. https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/lounge-chairs/mid-century-modern-lounge-chair-manner-adrian-pearsall-c1960s/id-f_44779852/#zoomModalOpen

The ribbed concrete feels a little too cold and trendy. I like the teak one more but the color is almost too warm for the rest of the space. I like this from room and board. I'd also look on 1stdibs.

Warrior head or Roman soldier rings like this were very popular for men in the Art Deco period (1920s-early 1940s). When the stone is tiger's eye, they are usually cameo style like yours. Another common variation is a [hematite stone with an intaglio carving](https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/rings/signet-rings/10k-hematite-gold-intaglio-warrior-ring-1930s/id-j_9461202/). (Ignore the inflated price that one sold for, btw...1stDibs is crazy.)
Ostby Barton made a lot of these, though I'm not sure about this particular example. Yours looks really well preserved and carved nicely -- some of these warrior signet rings are janky as hell. Nice thing to have passed down!

This lamp is advertised for $950 on 1stdibs. I'd like to just get rid of it for less than half of that and let the next person put love into it. I agree though, it's definitely unique looking!
Gorgeous side chair, meant for the drawing room/front parlour usually accompanied by a settee hence the low height relative to a dining chair. I think it's walnut Renaissance Revival not oak going by the woodgrain on the back of the chair. Likely 1870s or thereabouts & I love the carving. It looks in excellent condition, the upholstery really shows off the wood beautifully, the brass castors are likely to be original.
The nearest example was a pair I found on 1st dibs, but take the price with a pinch of salt, https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/armchairs/two-antique-renaissance-revival-reticulated-walnut-armorial-side-chairs-c1870/id-f_45235052/

These are known as bowtop Thonet bentwood beech armchairs but I can't find a specific number for this chair. There are catalogues online both on the Thonet website but also the Internet Archive where there's an extensive 1908 catalogue. The nearest I can get is this example but these ones are earlier I believe as the arms are different, https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/dining-room-chairs/set-of-six-vienna-scessionist-bentwood-dining-chairs-made-austria-thonet/id-f_45193042/
After WW1, they no longer used the Austria stamp apparently, so this armchair of yours is likely to be early 20th century.

This looks like an example of ceramics from the Memphis Design Group, an Italian postmodern movement which was active and influential in the '70s and '80s, and who rejected the austere minimalist aesthetic then in vogue in favor of bright colors and whimsical forms. They worked in ceramics, glass, furniture, and other media, and were widely emulated around the world, so this might not be from the core group. Estate sales near me are priced sky high and not one has anything worth buying. It’s all over priced junk. The name of the game used to be price it to sell.
This nonsense is literally ruining the vintage market. Dealers are going out of business. Goodwill is making its biggest profits ever. Estate sales have a 1stDibs price with a printout of a listing taped to it. It’s so depressing.
Also, where is all the good stuff going? I used to peruse listings and I’d find at least 2 banger sales a week. Those no longer exist. People may not be moving as often, but they’re still dying. Seriously, what’s happening?

I recently acquired 7 of these chairs in Tulsa, OK. After some research they seem higher value than what I originally assumed. I’d like to sell them but I’m not in a rush, planning to gently clean them up, replace the glides, and use them as dining chairs for now! I am struggling to find these exact versions online to get a realistic expectation about listing price, as the ones I’m seeing either have replacement or non-stacking bases, have stacking bases but with the linking lips/ganging clips, or are in different colors than these. Can anyone with more expertise than me weigh in on how much I should consider selling them for, individually or as a set? Since I’m not in a hurry I don’t mind waiting for the right buyer. I’d also rather sell as a full set, but would be open to breaking them up in subsets of 4 & 3, 2 & 5, or as 6 & 1. I also know I could likely get more of a top dollar value selling in bigger markets, but I’m reluctant to ship them so I’m not sure using sites like 1st dibs or Chairsh is right for me. Any and all advice appreciated! More details about the chairs from what I know and could find:
Original Herman Miller labels with patent numbers
DSS stacking bases (no lip or ganging clips) “side chairs”
Late 50s/early 60s fiberglass in Elephant Hide Gray
These were kept in someone’s garage since the 70s, and don’t appear to have had any replacements or replica parts. The shells are in excellent condition, no fading or discoloration, even the shockmounts look to be in great shape— still black and no cracking or wear. Some glides are still intact, but many are missing or broken and would need to be replaced.

Let's take a step back. You are right that on any single item you know your category on, you're going to beat this tool, probably by a lot. I am wrong to challenge you on that. That's not the use case. A collector or dealer with your depth already has their sources, their library, and their eye. The tool is for the person at an estate sale staring at 30 things with 90 minutes before it closes and nobody to call. "20x better" doesn't help them if they can't DM you. Formal personal property appraisals run $250–$300 minimum per item (https://worthwiseappraisers.com/what-appraisals-cost/) or $79+ per photo valuation, $245/hr hourly-equivalent (https://prestigeestateservices.com/appraisal-costs/). Pros work at 1–3 items per hour. For someone at an estate sale with 30 items to triage in 90 minutes, that's not a realistic option.
On "exclude sales platforms from the knowledge base".... respectfully, that's wrong advice for a pricing/scaled research tool. Sales platforms are the price signal. Primary docs tell you what something is; completed auctions and sold listings tell you what it sold for, which is the whole question. Experts don't exclude sales data.... they discount bad sources. That's exactly what the tool does: separates sold (eBay completed, auction archives, LiveAuctioneers hammer) from asking (1stDibs, Chairish), weights accordingly, and treats dealer-retail as ask-only context, never realized value. If you've seen it surface 1stDibs asks as though they were sold comps, that's a bug, tell me which report and I'll fix it. Most people looking to sell this table do not care if it is Swaim or if it is Chuck-e-Cheese. They want to have a reasonable assessment of what it could be and what it could sell for.
For attribution specifically you're right that reference books and catalogues raisonnés are the gold standard. The tool does pull from Wikidata, museum APIs, Wikipedia, and category-specific sources, but it's not as good as someone who owns Miller's and Warman's and knows the signatures cold. It won't be. The goal is "beats a Google search by someone who doesn't know what to type," not "replaces Ralph Kovel."
If you ever want to tell me which online reference sources you actually trust in your category and which ones consistently mislead, I'll weight them. The prefetch rules are a YAML file — expert input is exactly what would make it sharper. There is no way for this tool to aggregate from historical catalogs that have no footprint online, and it was never intended to.

With some searching I think I found a resolution. No thanks to AI. He is Bent Bille and apparently was a Danish artist born in 1918 and painted a lot of ships and landscapes. He also invented a lamp with a hooded sort of shade that is collectable. [https://www.mutualart.com/Artist/Bent-Bille/26CDDC0464D569FE](https://www.mutualart.com/Artist/Bent-Bille/26CDDC0464D569FE). I found this blurb:
Bent Billie was born on August 29, 1918 in Copenhagen, Denmark. His early training was with his father, the artist willy Bille who was the third generation of a family of artists. Willy Bille's father was Vilh Bille and his father in turn was Carl Bille. All three of these artists are discussed in Weilbach's Lexikon of Artists.
I found a few of his paintings sold at auction and none are particularly valuable in the $150 range. To my eye the signatures are pretty close to mine. I got both for $135. I like them, they're well done scenes and I like original work and the frames add character. I hung them in our powder room.
I also did a little research on Royal Board from Sweden the masonite it's painted on. It's well known and apparently they made a line of furniture that's collectable. [https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/storage-case-pieces/credenzas/vintage-modern-rosewood-credenza-from-royal-board-sweden/id-f\_9615141/](https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/storage-case-pieces/credenzas/vintage-modern-rosewood-credenza-from-royal-board-sweden/id-f_9615141/)

A little bit late here, but first off, very nice setup!
This is probably a long shot, but I was wondering if you had any information on that liquor cabinet. I found the same one online a while ago and have wanted it since. It's the perfect size for this little wall in my dining room that's up against my raised entryway (the wall has a cutout at 48", so that's the hard limit on furniture height, but I'd like some room to put stuff on-top). I've wanted to put a light in that area, and while I could put something small on-top, I could also just let that cool blue glass do its thing. Beyond that, it's just a really cool piece with nice details like the legs or the way the glassware shelf pops out a bit when you drop down the bar door.
I've been able to find one of the exact same units that already sold: https://cityissue.com/shop/storage-office/1960s-walnut-diamond-drop-front-bar.

That bar with the blue diamond glass is the one I'd love to find, but other than just randomly doing Google Lens searches and hoping something pops up, I don't have much to work with. Maybe I'll get lucky and patience will pay off, but I figured I'd see if yours happens to have any markings or if you know anything that these sellers don't.
Thanks, and congrats on your beautiful space!

Double Cage-Base Brass and Nickel Dining Table with Glass Top
circa 1970s
GOOD
United States, circa 1970s · Brass-plated steel, Nickel-plated steel, Float glass
From the photo, the metal bases display a warm patina consistent with age; no visible structural damage or missing bars. The glass top appears intact and clear. Minor oxidation on the mixed-metal surfaces is expected and does not affect structural integrity. Full condition assessment would require in-person inspection.

Estimated Value: $3,000 – $7,200
LOW confidence · 0 comps
With no confirmed sold comps available, this table is directionally worth $3,000–$7,200 through curated resale channels assuming Pierre Cardin attribution; resolving the attribution question — either confirming Pierre Cardin for Dillingham via a label or substantiating Mascheroni for Swaim with physical evidence — is the single most important step before listing.
Valuation by Channel
Quick Sale (eBay, Facebook Marketplace): $1,500 – $3,500 · 1-3 weeks
Directional — no realized sales found. Estimated at roughly 50-60% of Curated Resale asking prices. Attribution uncertainty further compresses quick-sale pricing.
Curated Resale (Chairish, 1stDibs base tier): $3,000 – $7,200 · 60-120 days
Directional — no realized sales found. Based on two active asking prices ($5,000 on 1stDibs and $12,000 via Gustavo Olivieri Antiques), discounted approximately 40% to estimate transaction-likely range. Pierre Cardin attribution drives the upper end; unconfirmed attribution compresses it.
Dealer / Gallery (1stDibs top tier, specialty dealers): $5,000 – $12,000 · 90-180+ days
Asking-price context only — NOT confirmed sales. $5,000 asking at 1stDibs (https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/dining-room-tables/pierre-cardin-dining-table/id-f\_8180413/) and $12,000 asking via Gustavo Olivieri Antiques (https://gustavoolivieriantiques.com/inventory/tables-and-desks/pierre-cardin-cage-style-base-dining-table-in-mixed-metals/). Dealer asking prices typically transact at 40-70% of list.

The user reports this table as 'Mascheroni for Swaim.' My research found no online corroboration for a cage-base dining table attributed to John Mascheroni or Swaim Originals. What multiple independent marketplace sources DO consistently attribute to this exact design — two cage-form pedestal bases in alternating brass and nickel flat bars supporting a glass top — is Pierre Cardin for Dillingham Furniture Co., circa 1970s. A 1stDibs listing explicitly describes 'a brass-plated cage-form dining table base, designed in the 1970s by Pierre Cardin for Dillingham furniture,' and a Chairish listing describes 'TWO Pierre Cardin cage style bases in nickel and brass interlocking flat bars,' which matches this table precisely. John Mascheroni is a confirmed designer for Swaim Originals (labels documented on sofas and lounge chairs), and he did design geometric brass and chrome furniture, but no cage-base dining table attributed to that pairing appeared in any search of 1stDibs, Chairish, LiveAuctioneers, or eBay. The user may have physical label evidence not visible in these photos — if a Swaim label is present under the base, that would change the attribution materially. As of this research, the market-supported attribution is Pierre Cardin for Dillingham; the Mascheroni/Swaim claim is not corroborated.
Evidence For
Multiple independent 1stDibs listings explicitly attribute this exact cage/grid pedestal base style to Pierre Cardin for Dillingham Furniture Co., 1970s (sources: https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/dining-room-tables/pierre-cardin-cage-form-brass-dining-table-base-ca-1970s/id-f\_48070162/ and https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/dining-room-tables/glamorous-pair-of-dining-table-console-bases-pierre-cardin/id-f\_1166158/)
Chairish listing describes an almost identical table: 'TWO Pierre Cardin cage style bases in nickel and brass interlocking flat bars (can be used as square shown here or in diamond shapes)' with Italian green-tone glass top (source: https://www.chairish.com/product/8873524/pierre-cardin-cage-style-base-dining-table-in-mixed-metals)
Pierre Cardin's documented furniture manufacturing relationship with Dillingham Furniture Co. is confirmed by multiple 1stDibs listings covering dressers, nightstands, and dining tables under that brand
Google Lens visual match returned Pierre Cardin as top identification candidate across multiple results
Evidence Against
User states the table is NOT Pierre Cardin and is Mascheroni for Swaim — this claim may be based on physical label evidence not visible in the photos
John Mascheroni is a confirmed Swaim Originals designer (labels documented on sofas, lounge chairs, and other pieces) and he did design geometric brass/chrome furniture in the 1970s
Pierre Cardin furniture attributions in the secondary market are sometimes applied broadly and inconsistently — the cage-base style was not exclusively his
Alternatives Considered
Pierre Cardin for Dillingham Furniture Co. — strongest market-supported attribution based on multiple independent sources
John Mascheroni for Swaim Originals — user's claim, not corroborated by online searches; requires physical label or provenance document to substantiate
Romeo Rega style — Chairish cross-reference keyword used by the same-style listing, suggesting Italian design influence on this form

The Piece
If this table is indeed by Pierre Cardin for Dillingham Furniture — which is what the current market evidence most strongly supports — it belongs to a well-documented chapter of Cardin's 1970s design expansion into home furnishings. In that decade, Cardin licensed his name and design direction to Dillingham Furniture Co. for an American market collection that included dining tables, bedroom ensembles, and case goods. The cage-form pedestal base, constructed from interlocking flat bars in alternating warm brass and cooler nickel, is one of the most visually distinctive forms from that collaboration — it appears in multiple independent dealer listings as a recognized Cardin/Dillingham signature piece.
The user's claim that the piece is by John Mascheroni for Swaim Originals deserves honest scrutiny. Mascheroni is a genuine and documented designer for Swaim — labels confirming that relationship have appeared on sofas, lounge chairs, and other pieces from the 1970s–1980s. Mascheroni worked extensively in geometric brass and chrome. However, no cage-base or grid-pedestal dining table attributed to Mascheroni for Swaim was found in any marketplace search across 1stDibs, Chairish, LiveAuctioneers, or eBay. This does not prove the claim is wrong — it may simply reflect thin online documentation for that specific form — but it means the Mascheroni/Swaim attribution currently lacks corroboration.
Practically, the attribution question is not academic: a confirmed Pierre Cardin for Dillingham provenance (ideally a Dillingham label on the underside of a base) would position this table in a recognized secondary-market category with active dealer interest, while an unconfirmed attribution compresses both audience and pricing. Before any serious listing effort, the user should physically examine the underside of both cage bases for any manufacturer's tag, metal stamp, or paper label. A Dillingham label reading 'Designed by Pierre Cardin for Dillingham' would be definitive. A Swaim label would corroborate the user's claim and warrant a fresh set of targeted searches.
Open Questions
Is there a manufacturer's label, metal stamp, or paper tag on the underside of either base? A Dillingham label would confirm Pierre Cardin attribution; a Swaim label would corroborate the user's claim.
What is the source of the 'Mascheroni for Swaim' attribution — dealer, previous owner, or document? This context would materially affect how to weight the claim.
What are the exact dimensions of the glass top and bases? Size affects comp relevance significantly — Dillingham/Cardin versions varied.
Is the glass top original to the bases, or a replacement? Original Italian green-tone glass (as described in the Chairish comparable) is more valuable than a cut replacement.
Any provenance documentation — original bill of sale, estate paperwork, or prior appraisal — would be significant evidence.

The five-piece set's defining construction features — vertical molded aluminum flat-bar slats fanning into a flared open shell atop a tulip hourglass pedestal base, rendered in mirror-polished aluminum — match precisely the documented description of Herbert Saiger's design program for Lee L. Woodard & Sons, produced in the early-to-mid 1960s. Both 1stDibs and [Newel.com](http://Newel.com) catalogue identical pieces under this attribution. Confidence stops at PROBABLE rather than CONFIRMED because no maker's stamp, paper label, or underframe tag is visible in the provided photograph. In-person inspection of the underside of the pedestals should reveal a Woodard manufacturing stamp.

Risk Factors
No confirmed sold comps retrieved — all pricing is directional from asking-price context with a 40% discount applied; realized value could be higher or lower
Attribution is PROBABLE, not CONFIRMED — no Woodard maker's stamp visible in photo; if attribution cannot be confirmed in person, top-tier dealer/gallery pricing is not achievable
Polished aluminum furniture is expensive to restore if the mirror finish has oxidized — inspect each slat for pitting, haze, or discoloration not visible in the hero photo
Freight logistics are complex and costly for a 5-piece large-scale metal set; budget $300–$600 for professional art-freight packaging
The five outer/side table pieces could be later additions rather than original set mates — confirm matching slat dimensions and base proportions in person
Complete matched sets rarely sell as a single unit on general platforms; specialist auction or dealer consignment may be required for the set premium to be realized

The Piece
If this piece is confirmed as a Herbert Saiger design for Lee L. Woodard & Sons — which the visual and documentary evidence strongly supports — it represents a genuine high-water mark of American mid-century aluminum furniture design. Saiger's collaboration with the Woodard family's Owosso, Michigan manufacturing operation in the early 1960s produced a line of polished aluminum slat furniture that stripped outdoor seating down to its geometric essentials: vertical flat bars sweeping from a tight hourglass pedestal into a wide, flared bowl of a seat, the whole form mirror-polished to a brilliance that erases the boundary between garden furniture and sculpture.
This five-piece matched set — settee flanked by two armchairs and two side tables, all sharing the same tulip-pedestal vocabulary — is exceptional not merely for its design but for its completeness. Intact Saiger/Woodard sets rarely survive with all matching pieces; individual chairs and chaises routinely appear on 1stDibs and Newel, but a cohesive five-piece group with undamaged finishes across all elements represents exactly the kind of offering specialist dealers and serious MCM collectors compete for.
The design sits at the intersection of two powerful mid-century currents: the American postwar celebration of aluminum as a democratic engineering material (see Russell Woodard's own Sculptura line and Warren McArthur's tubular work) and the Italian sculptural rationalism that was transforming European furniture design at the same moment. The result is a piece that photographs equally well in a Palm Springs courtyard or a Manhattan loft — which explains why these sets, when they surface in good condition, generate significant dealer and auction interest. Condition risk centers on the aluminum polish (oxidation dulls the mirror finish and is expensive to reverse) and on slat-attachment points that can loosen over six decades; both appear intact in the submitted photo.
Open Questions
In-person inspection of underside of all five pedestal bases for Woodard manufacturer stamp — would upgrade attribution from PROBABLE to CONFIRMED
Confirmation that the side tables are original to the set (matching slat pattern and pedestal proportions) versus later additions
Integrity of glass top on settee — tempered or plate, any chips or edge damage
Whether any cushion components originally paired with this set survive (Saiger/Woodard pieces were sold with upholstered seat pads; their presence would increase value)

So I'll bite on this. From single images alone this is a Lou Hodges style table and a Russell Woodard style garden set. But if your point is you don't have provenance details for these based on the photos sent I would agree with you. Let me run these and I can tell you what exact I'd look for to get actual attribution.
I think you are conflating dealer ID for what the tool actually provides, which would be Open Questions / Signs of Provenance that you could actually ask a seller. i.e. is there a stamp on the bottom leg of this. Etc. Here's the Hodges table:
Search returned multiple strong visual matches to Lou Hodges for Mersman Waldron, specifically identifying this rolled-arm, smoked-glass, lower-shelf form as one of Hodges's signature production designs for Mersman in the 1970s. Five independent platforms (1stDibs, Chairish, [midcenturyla.com](http://midcenturyla.com), eBay, AuctionNinja) list this exact form under Lou Hodges / Mersman attribution. Lou Hodges (1937–2003) was a California-based furniture designer who produced both custom work through California Design Group and licensed production pieces through Mersman Waldron (Ohio). The rolled tubular side-arm construction and two-tier glass-and-oak layout are hallmarks of his Mersman line. Attribution is PROBABLE rather than CONFIRMED because the photo does not show a Mersman Waldron maker's mark or label on the underside, which would confirm manufacture.
# Evidence For
* Google Lens: five of ten top visual matches name Lou Hodges / Mersman explicitly — 1stDibs listing f\_38248972, eBay 326291075211, AuctionNinja estate listing, midcenturyla.com tbl-cof-970, ATTIC.city Miami Vintage Decor
* 1stDibs listing [https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/coffee-tables-cocktail-tables/post-modern-oak-glass-coffee-table-lou-hodges-mersman-c-1970s/id-f\_38248972/](https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/coffee-tables-cocktail-tables/post-modern-oak-glass-coffee-table-lou-hodges-mersman-c-1970s/id-f_38248972/) describes identical form: 'sculptural solid oak frame, bevelled tinted glass top, lower level,' H 16.5in, 1970s
* midcenturyla.com tbl-cof-970 (https://www.midcenturyla.com/ProductDetail.aspx?product\_sku=tbl-cof-970) lists this form as Lou Hodges at $1,350
* Chairish listing [https://www.chairish.com/product/24798682/lou-hodges-oak-coffee-by-mersman](https://www.chairish.com/product/24798682/lou-hodges-oak-coffee-by-mersman) confirms 'Lou Hodges for Mersman, circa 1970s, sculptural solid oak frame, lower level and beveled glass top'
* LiveAuctioneers price guide (https://www.liveauctioneers.com/price-guide/lou-hodges/15289/) records 43 Lou Hodges auction results including 2024 and 2025 coffee table entries, confirming active secondary-market recognition
* [liveauctioneers.com](http://liveauctioneers.com) price-result for '70s Oak Coffee Table, Attr Lou Hodges' confirms 'Marked on bottom, Mersman Waldron. With glass insert top and wooden bottom shelf' as the Mersman-branded version of this form
# Evidence Against
* No Mersman Waldron maker's mark visible in the photo — underside not shown
* Some similar forms labeled 'Lou Hodges style' rather than confirmed Hodges — cannot rule out unlabeled production copy without physical inspection of underside label
If this piece is confirmed as a Lou Hodges design for Mersman Waldron — and the visual evidence strongly points that way — it represents a well-regarded chapter of American post-modern furniture production. Lou Hodges (1937–2003) was a California-based designer who worked across two major production relationships: his own California Design Group studio and a licensed manufacturing arrangement with Mersman Waldron, the Celina, Ohio furniture company. The Mersman line brought his organic, oak-heavy aesthetic to a broader commercial market, and the rolled-arm, two-tier coffee table is one of the most recognizable pieces associated with that collaboration.
The design language here is distinctly of its 1970s West Coast moment: solid oak worked into gently curved, almost tubular arm forms, smoked or beveled glass as a visually receding top surface, and a lower shelf that grounds the piece without weighing it down. It sits at the intersection of Mid-Century warmth and the Post-Modern interest in sculptural, architecturally considered furniture. Multiple dealer platforms — 1stDibs, Chairish, and specialist dealers like [midcenturyla.com](http://midcenturyla.com) — actively carry and attribute this exact form to Hodges and Mersman Waldron, which speaks to consistent market recognition.
Pricing data is thin in the confirmed-sold sense: LiveAuctioneers records 43 Lou Hodges auction results including coffee table entries in 2024 and 2025, but realized prices are behind a paywall. Asking prices for this specific form on 1stDibs and dealer sites range from approximately $1,000 to $1,350. Applying a standard asking-to-realized discount, realistic transaction prices likely fall in the $550–$850 range through patient curated-resale channels, or $350–$600 for a quick marketplace sale. Confirming the Mersman Waldron label on the underside would remove the residual attribution uncertainty and likely support the upper end of that range.
Open Questions
* Is the Mersman Waldron paper label or stamped mark present on the underside? This would upgrade attribution from PROBABLE to CONFIRMED.
* What are the exact dimensions? The width is the biggest value driver — longer rectangular versions (48"+ wide) are more desirable than compact square variants.
* Is the glass original? Replacement glass reduces value slightly; original beveled smoked glass intact is a plus.
* Are there any hidden chips or cracks in the oak frame or glass not visible in the hero shot?
* Is this a Mersman Waldron production piece or a California Design Group studio piece? CDG pieces sometimes command a modest premium for provenance.

I posted the link to help out OP with their ID request.
I do know that in the US a vintage Herman Miller Eames Lounge in Rosewood can easily fetch upwards of $6,000+
Some people will settle for a **Plycraft** since they're worth much less. $3,900 US is no deal but it's not stupid crazy like Chairish or 1stDibs
No clue, I saw the same one for sale on 1stdibs but I didn’t see a makers mark on it. The person I bought it from had some amazing pieces, including an authentic siesta chair. She had no idea!

Unfortunately, you're missing the required furnishings to equip it but they may possibly still around as it's highly likely that it came equipped possibly?
This is a 1920 example which demonstrates the start of Art Deco influences, which is absent in yous, https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/storage-case-pieces/cabinets/1920s-heavily-figured-walnut-art-deco-cocktail-cabinet/id-f_33395642/#zoomModalOpen

I bought a total counterfeit bochic cuff bracelet from 1stdibs. I told the designer of the brand that I was going into a jeweler to have him check it out and he started freaking out saying no no don't do that 3 jewelers threw it down like it was cryptonite and said it's all fake. And 1stdibs acted like it was just another day and didn't even really apologize they should have been freaking out. They should intercept the return so they can catch him.

Oh yeah which comment what "proof" did they have? or are you talking about the 1stdibs post? I can make a sales listing right now on dibs if you want that says I designed this table, not sure what that would "prove" other than dibs is a terrible source for information.

Here’s the orange stripy one. It’s a cool design, wonder if it could be danish?
According to the calculator that I’m using, 210 g of sterling has a melt value of $464 currently.
It’s a nice piece, but realistically the demand for this kind of thing is very limited and it’s probably worth melt value, or even somewhat below currently, because many silver refiners are backed up at the moment.
So if you listed it at $690 on eBay, it might sit for a while, unless you get lucky and find a collector who’s looking for this specific kind of thing.
You might see similar items listed at crazy high prices on websites like Chairish or 1stdibs, but I’m skeptical that things are actually selling at those list prices since they are so much higher than eBay.
Great find regardless.

Happiness for Heart comes in orange and red boxes. Look at how ecstatic she is in this photo with her new purchase.
> ** Heart said her husband, Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero, allowed her to shop in two luxury boutiques—Cartier and Hermès.**
The Sorsogon Governor funding the luxury shopping of his wife. We know where he’s getting the budget. If she was using her own money, she would not need permission from her husband. Her endless shopping comes from unlimited funds he gets as a government official. 🐊

Given the age it's probably going to be with vintage resllers. A green gown from that collection was sold on 1stDibs for $14k. You'll just have to keep looking.
Now this I agree with. A large mined diamond, typically, is also in a well made setting. A large lab diamond in a ticky tacky thin setting with cruddy prongs and finishing doesn't align. Growing up in a world of mined, selling extremely expensive large stones, because thats all there was, aside from a CZ until around 2010 when were a small handful of very expensive labs, or treated/clarity enhanced stones coming into the market.. but to your point, never would mined a stone worth thousands of dollars go into these thin shanked, lightweight settings. It kills me every time I see it. Look at Leon Mege, OMIPRIVE, Harry Winston, Some, but not all, settings on 1stDibs with mined, high carat diamonds (or expensive gems) There's a marked difference in the weight, composition, and design of these high quality pieces vs 80% of what's being made - and from cad lol, like these designs haven't been sold thousands of times over for decades from standard manufacturers (at an appropriate weight and thickness) Gah it kills me.
I wear big diamonds and gems - my older pieces are mined, well because Im old lol and obviously from the trade, some are lab, but my setting will ALWAYS be appropriately made to reflect the quality that would naturally be aligned with the spend of a large stone.

We might be able to figure this out. Claude had this to say:
"Likely origin and period:
Late 1980s to mid-1990s, almost certainly Italian or possibly French. The combination of the organic freeform glass top with sculptural turned aluminum legs is very characteristic of the Italian postmodern movement adjacent to — but not officially part of — Memphis Milano.
The most plausible design house candidates:
Giovanni Offredi for Saporiti Italia — Offredi produced freeform glass-top tables for Saporiti in the 1980s, and Saporiti was a leading Italian house working in that postmodern-adjacent space.
Fiam Italia — Fiam (based in Tavullia) was the dominant Italian manufacturer of architectural glass furniture in this era, often collaborating with designers like Danny Lane and Vittorio Livi on organically shaped glass pieces.
A lesser-known Italian producer in the orbit of houses like Acerbis, Zanotta, or Tonin Casa, all of whom produced freeform glass table designs in the early 1990s.
French postmodern production — there was a parallel French scene producing similar organic glass tables, sometimes attributed to designers in the orbit of Philippe Starck's early Aleph/Driade collaborations.
The legs are the key clue. The turned, bamboo-jointed satin aluminum legs are very specific and distinctive — they don't match the typical tubular or geometric legs of Memphis Milano proper, but do resemble the sculptural cast or turned aluminum legs seen in Italian and some French postmodern production of the early 1990s. This aesthetic — organic top meets sculptural turned legs — was sometimes called "Nuovo Design" or simply second-wave Italian postmodernism.
My best recommendation for the subreddit post:
Ask the poster to flip the table and look for any manufacturer's label, etched signature on the glass, or markings on the leg fittings. Italian pieces of this caliber almost always have something. Without that, the best approach is posting it to communities like r/whatsthispiece or reaching out to specialist dealers on 1stDibs or Pamono who focus on Italian postmodern — they often recognize these pieces on sight even when they're unlabeled. It could also be worth cross-referencing with Incollect.com, which has deep Italian design house catalogs.
This is a genuinely beautiful and significant piece — the five-leg configuration with that specific freeform top is unusual and suggests a named designer rather than a generic manufacturer."
Can you flip the table over and look for any markings on the glass or the leg fittings? Perhaps even in an extremely inconspicuous place, like on the side of the glass?

Either Chinese, or SE Asian, likely elm & bamboo if >50 years old. However, I'm not convinced that it's that old because there's no patina present bar the brass rivets. Also there's multiple examples online through reputable auction houses that make no claims on age whatsoever which is a good indicator to me that these are currently being manufactured in this format as a Qing Dynasty style.

As for my regret sale, it was an Omnichord OM-84. I bought it for $100, had a blast with it for about a month and decided to list it for $650. Sold next day on eBay. I was contemplating canceling the sale but decided to go through with it. Will never find that kind of deal for an Omnichord again so it hurts that I let it go.

Bauhaus can seem a little abstract at first because people often talk about it like a mood or a look. The clearest way to understand it is to see it as a design philosophy first. Bauhaus stripped away unnecessary decoration and focused on utility, clean geometry, honest materials, and the idea that good design should work well as well as look good.
# How to Understand Bauhaus Design and Use It Well
Bauhaus is about form following function. Once you understand its focus on simplicity, geometry, industrial materials, and purposeful design, it becomes much easier to recognize it and use it in a modern space.
[Image Source: Behance.](https://preview.redd.it/zjclh0d55psg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=ed7e507bb72ef9baa7c76a78ae22d35bc21c33e9)
# 1. Start With the Core Idea
At its heart, Bauhaus is about finding beauty in utility. Instead of ornate decoration, it favors clean lines, simple shapes, and objects that look like what they are meant to do. That is why Bauhaus design still feels modern. It is grounded in clarity, restraint, and function rather than trend.
The movement also became known for its use of modern materials like steel and glass, along with a visual language built around geometry and a palette that often includes primary colors balanced with black, white, and neutrals.
[Image Source: Behance.](https://preview.redd.it/gez1xz4c5psg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=828988750b2afd1e86b2e27860f56c367735dd06)
# 2. Learn the Principles That Define the Style
Three ideas sit at the center of Bauhaus design. The first is **form follows function**, meaning the shape of an object should be driven by its purpose. The second is **minimalism and simplicity**, where excess is removed so the design feels clear and deliberate. The third is the **unity of art, craft, and technology**, which brings creativity together with practical production and modern manufacturing.
These principles are why Bauhaus had such a lasting impact across architecture, furniture, interiors, and graphic design. It created a visual language that was efficient, adaptable, and easy to carry into modern life.
[Image Source: Thomas Lewandovski.](https://preview.redd.it/4z7z6e0k5psg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=03dc3218e5eb91265e534fa1327012e6695be793)
# 3. Look for the Visual Clues
Bauhaus design is usually easy to spot once you know what to look for. Geometric shapes, straight lines, open layouts, and a sense of order are all strong indicators. Materials are often left to speak for themselves, with steel, glass, and concrete used in a way that feels honest rather than disguised.
In furniture, Bauhaus moved away from ornate detail and toward pieces that were simple, practical, and suitable for wider production. Designs like the Wassily Chair and later pieces associated with Florence Knoll reflect that shift toward functional modernism with a clean industrial edge.
[Image Source: Knoll + 1stdibs.](https://preview.redd.it/yv1yedfn5psg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ba98adbf447dea9954515a21296c5e80a255658)
# 4. Use Bauhaus in a Way That Still Feels Warm
A Bauhaus-inspired room does not need to feel cold. The key is to balance precision with livability. Use geometric zoning, keep furniture purposeful, and let materials like wood, steel, glass, or linen create contrast. A restrained neutral base with selective primary-color accents can capture the spirit of Bauhaus without making the room feel rigid.
It also helps to soften the sharper edges of the style with texture, warm lighting, and a few carefully chosen pieces rather than trying to make everything look severe. That way the space still feels functional and calm, but also comfortable to live in. This approach aligns with modern applications of Bauhaus principles in interiors that emphasize open planning, honest materials, and carefully curated objects.
# Quick Takeaway
Bauhaus is not just a historic style. It is a way of thinking about design that values purpose, simplicity, and clarity. Once you understand those ideas, it becomes much easier to recognize Bauhaus elements and use them in a way that feels intentional rather than sterile.
# Discussion
Do you prefer Bauhaus when it feels strict and architectural, or when it is softened with warmer textures and materials?

I believe I was on 1stdibs or Chairish around 2023 when I found this and a few similar pieces with a feminist theme. Another I didn't screenshot was called "Oh no, my youth!" and showed an old woman's skin jumping off a young woman.
I recall the artist had a pseudonym and possibly a social media presence but it's all gone. Can you all help?
Agreed, incredibly reasonable price for a flawless set. 1stdibs pricing isn't 2.6k its like 10k lol
I mean that’s a bit much.. like 1stdibs pricing. I often see sets of teak dining chairs for $1-200 per chair on marketplace and I’m not in a big city.
1990s reproductions, with a faux finish. (marketed through various retailers, with the same filipino oem)
i don’t think the finish is supposed to imitate burlwood- it seems more like an imitation of aged leather. not any sort of veneer, in any case.

Considering selling this beautiful Fall/Winter 2000 Versace coat and sharing here first in case any collectors may be interested.
• Genuine multi-panel fur
• Original python skin collar + matching belt
• Made in Italy – Versace Couture
• Early Donatella era (post-Gianni)
• Similar example currently listed on 1stDibs
• 38/40 size
The screenshot from 1st Dibs is a brown python skin one, whereas the one I have is an original python skin color, which is rarer from what I understood. Correct me if I'm wrong on that though.
Excellent vintage condition. Happy to provide more photos or measurements via DM.
Open to reasonable offers in the mid-high four figure range.
Worldwide shipping possible.

I recently acquired a pair of vintage Gianni Versace UPDATE sunglasses from the late 80s.
Details: • Model: MOD. 676
• Color: COL. C52 GY
• Condition: brand new / never worn
• Includes original tag and case
• Made in Italy
From what I’ve found, these seem to be part of the early Gianni-era shield visor styles, but I’m having trouble determining a realistic resale price.
I saw a similar pair listed on 1stDibs and some vintage eyewear sites, but prices seem to vary a lot.
For those familiar with vintage designer eyewear: • What would be a realistic selling price?
• Would eBay auction or Buy-It-Now be better?
• Is this considered a desirable Versace model?

Lately I have seen their pricing on certain items become insane. Certain vintage Gucci by Tom Ford clothing pieces listed for over $10K. On 1stDibs they might be, but The RealReal is not 1stDibs.
Personally, I only sell things to them that I don’t care about.
I also once bought a small side table and a small dining room table at the habitat store. I didn't think much of it because it was just something I needed at the time. But I'm a stickler for researching items, finding maker marks and finding out value. I found out they where both made by jens risom, as it was stamped right on the bottom of each. I paid $10.00 each. Found out they were worth so much more.
This is the side table https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/side-tables/mid-century-modern-floating-top-walnut-side-table-jens-risom/id-f_48664552/
which i actually kept and usef for about 8 years. Sold for $450.
This is the dining table, at least similar. They didn't have my exact table
https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/dining-room-tables/danish-mid-century-circular-walnut-revolving-lazy-susan-dining-table/id-f_31834492/
Which i still use to this day! But might sell it soon as I'm about to move.

Mainly because it's handmade, including the "plastic straps" in blown glass.
Edit: there are several around the webs in this precise model, they are from the Seventies.

I’ve found a very similar table, the handle seems to be the same and the cut of the top seems to be the same also. Unfortunately i can’t find the brand from this but there is an option to contact the seller, so perhaps you could do so and ask if they have any more information if you have no luck here.

I used to have a lot of obscure antique sites saved on my old laptop. It died and everything went with it. Midnight Sun Auctions sells porcelain. 1stdibs is another one online. I forget the rest of them.
Took advantage of the nice weather today and did a few more laps on my “new” field. Alongside a perfectly flawless diamond with at least 1000 plastic carats, I actually managed to find a nice little artifact.
At first, I thought it was a gear from some kind of agricultural tool. Then the AI tried to convince me it was a riding spur from the Thirty Years’ War. But after searching a bit deeper, it turns out it’s part of a kitchen utensil — an antique pie crimper, like the one shown in this link.

P.S. The field is getting cleaner and cleaner.
P.P.S. Whoever can identify that circuit board board on the trashpile gets an extra handshake. How does stuff like this end in the middle of a corn field???

Sorry for the confusion. They’re natural, color-matched Brazilian Paraíba tourmalines —rarer than diamonds—totaling 12.7 carats, set in white gold. I paid $27K for this bracelet.
The ring on that photo was $25K because it’s paraiba from the DY Vault Collection and is a one-of-a-kind piece, so they only made that one due to stone cost and rarity, imports fees etc. They had made one bracelet type which didn’t last long - they still have white gold tags available but warning: You’ll spend an arm and a leg and a nut! https://www.davidyurman.com/mens/pendants/chevron-tag-in-18k-white-gold-35mm-D25078M8W.html?dwvar_D25078M8W_color=PB
I got a bit obsessed on finding a bracelet because of the ring, and I spent about six months looking for an authentic bracelet to match and finally found mine on 1stDibs - only one I found. The other link I sent was just a similar-looking tennis bracelet I found online—it’s likely crystal and around $60 if you’re just going for the looks and don’t care about the actual stone - I wanted the actual stone.
The 1stDibs bracelet link listed at $25K was my second choice; I shared it because the cut is somewhat similar, though it’s not the one I bought. It may still be available if you’re looking for an authentic piece that gets authenticated etc. I also reached out to my seller to ask where it originally came from but didn’t get a response. It has been authenticated, which is what mattered most to me. I hope I explained well now, sorry!

You have 2 nice Middle Eastern pieces there that may well be late 19th century. The curule, or throne chair, has lovely intarsia work & is very similar to this Moroccan example made of walnut & inlaid with MOP, I suspect that yours might be bone? https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/chairs/single-solid-throne-style-mother-pearl-moroccan-chair-walnut-wood/id-f_15635272/
The little tea table appears more Syrian in appearance, but could also be walnut & is very similar to this piece from Damascus.

Not sure if this helps at all not Perth location though.
Absolutely gorgeous! Looks like a rosewood Niels Moller dining set. And yes, the chairs are likely original to the table - Model 69 (armchairs) and 86 (sidechairs), also made in solid rosewood.
A full set like this is difficult to price. In my area, $4k for the table and $4-6k for the chairs. Depending on where you live/demand, price could go above or below that estimate. Really they're priceless and you should keep them, congrats on the jackpot!

I collect art on a small scale- mostly what I find on instagram. But this piece is from 1st Dibs. It’s p/p, hand signed lithograph by Romare Bearden. I have bought, but never sold art (except my own small hand painted pieces) of this size and value - no idea how to pack and ship! Right now it’s on FB marketplace local pickup only. Best way to move a one-off piece? 3rd parties who will pack fine art and ship for you? I’m in Birmingham, Al.

If it is a high quality dresser then Chairish/1stdibs and similar sites.
For an average used dresser nobody cares. Our local thrift stores and used furniture stores are full of them at dirt cheap prices. Every estate sale or auction has a few. Heck, in another month there will be hundreds of free dressers scattered in the neighborhoods around WashU/SLU/Webster/etc when the student start moving out. It isn't worth hassling with an individual seller for the most part if you don't have anything special or unique.

definitely a tough hunt but estate sales in older money areas can be goldmines for this stuff. i've stumbled across some incredible pieces at estates in places like newport or charleston where old families are downsizing. the key is getting there early and knowing what you're looking at since a lot of people miss the real gems.
online wise, liveauctioneers is where i've had the most luck - you can bid on auctions from all over the world and some european auction houses regularly have period pieces. just be prepared to pay shipping costs that'll make you cry. also check out 1stdibs but that's more for when you're feeling wealthy. local antique shows are worth hitting up too, especially the higher end ones where serious dealers bring their best stuff.

It’s been a short & direct conversation with Huang Roy. Just me sending him reference pictures, he says “yeah we can do this”, pulls up a couple of sample pics *(Evercolor in Blanc PHW on Constance)* to show me the expected effect and the deal went through.
Sadly, he forgot about the free twilly :( Immediately feedback to him & he says will send me a Calvi *next time*. Hmmm 🤔
Glad that he clarified on the blind stamp as well as taking extra PSP photos upon request.
Btw it’s my first time dealing with Evercolor, when I got the bag it feels a little too stiff for my liking (*is it the leather?)*, might get another in a softer leather just to confirm 😜
Anyway not an expert in QC & also did not find as many Halzan rep posts around as reference so with my amateur eye this bag feels great!
One thing to note though:
In comparison with Peter’s order, Huang Roy’s packaging is not as comprehensive. It’s a standard H orange box with paper, simple wrap up of the buckles with plastic wraps, entire bag in dustbag. That’s it, nothing like the auth packaging references I have seen online like [this ](https://imgur.com/a/njCnTg1).

My 1stDibs internal calculator is take that price and devide by 6. That is a good place to start. Accept any offer that is 50% of that.
Attached are photos of mine
Hi, so I found this daybed/couch about three years ago on OfferUp locally and paid around $100 for it. The guy I bought it from said it came from his grandma’s basement after she passed. I never really looked into it much, I just liked how it looked.
Recently I came across a listing for what looks like the exact same piece, just with different cushioning or upholstery on the main sofa part. I also found these listings:
[https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/sofas/heywood-wakefield-sofa-oak-rattan-velvet-usa-1950s/id-f\_40154382/#zoomModalOpen](https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/sofas/heywood-wakefield-sofa-oak-rattan-velvet-usa-1950s/id-f_40154382/#zoomModalOpen)

Both have the same rattan base as mine, and from what I can tell mine looks identical in structure. So now I’m wondering if mine is actually the same piece and they just offered different cushion styles, fabrics, colors, some with buttons, some without, and some that separate versus ones that don’t. Also you will see in the background of the second photo I have the footrest or whatever that is I use it as a foot rest lol.
Basically just trying to figure out if mine is that same Heywood Wakefield piece shown in those listings. and if it is worth that price.. I love the look would be open to sell it as I found a vintage Ikea couch I really like and would love to own.

Neither Cassina nor Stendig made licensed Wassily Chairs. Stendig imported them but those were made by Gavina. They could have made some after Knoll acquired Gavina but those would thereby be unlicensed reproductions.
I see this cited from time to time on 1stdibs or chairish but unsure where the Cassina misinformation comes from. The timelines never lined up from Thonet then onto Gavina. They always claimed they’re from the 80s but by then Knoll had already acquired Gavina and held the licensing rights.

I believe the monogram print version is more valuable. From what I looked up briefly, I think it’s valued between $1200 - $1800, even if listed higher. I saw it sell for more on 1stdibs, but I assume this comes down to the condition 🤗.
1stdibs pricing is a joke. Another comment mentioned $300 on ebay sold comps. I would set price closer to that.
I suspect that it’s sagged down and that the ring portion of it is supposed to be centered over the basket to hang mosquito netting over it. Like this.

The vibrant color mostly. This is how a real piece should look like. But I'm not an expert in this art. I've just seen too many contemporary decoration pieces that have this same look

As another commenter correctly stated, this is a Platner for Knoll dining chair.
If they are real (if these are older they can be a bit tricky to authenticate) they are pretty rare and worth a decent amount. If they are real and the leather or vinyl is original, that would make these extra unique as you typically see these in a fabric. However, this furniture was often custom ordered from Knoll, and they literally had hundreds of material choices, so you sometimes encounter wild fabric choices that are completely original. Ignore prices you see on chairish or 1stdibs, they are normally grossly inflated (often by 5-10x of actual realistic value).

Nah, I think it’s just something that was [popular](https://www.1stdibs.com/blogs/the-study/cameo-jewelry/#:~:text=Cameo%20jewelry%20became%20all%20the,Napoleon's%20Influence) in the era
A glass and mirror company sells antique type glass. I have a coffee table and I replaced the bottom shelf with antique glass.
The issue might be that it doesn't match the other pieces and so you can live with the discrepancy or replace all of the pieces as there really isn't much glass to replace.
You posted a picture of a mirror from 1stDibs which has notoriously inflated prices so I wouldn't rely on it as an accurate representation of fair market value. I have no opinion of the actual value.

Almost the same mirror on sale on 1stdibs for over $20,000? Shipping from France to the UK, I paid about $800.

This seems to be Petr's designs, I guess the poppy seed lamp isn't sold anymore?
Sick! If you want to find out the price, maybe look at different auction sites like Sotheby’s or Maurice Auctions to find the exact piece or find something similar from that season. 1Stdibs you can also check, but the prices are inflated/ridiculous on there haha. Good luck!
I collect antique and vintage jewelry. Rubylane, Etsy (although you'd have to vet the individual shops and there has been some instances of stealing images and selling cheap reproductions on that site), and 1stDibs are great sites for multiple venders (I wouldn't recommend Ebay unless you really know what you're doing).
As far as retailers - EraGem, Lang, and Erstwhile (NYC) are also really great options. I find Erstwhile to be the most expensive, however. Another one that is pretty pricey but a great one to just peruse to get a sense of what kinds of antique (mostly museum quality) pieces are out there is [romanovrussia.com](http://romanovrussia.com) \-- a jeweler out of Chicago. Ivy and Rose is another in Chicago -- although I've only used them for reproduction pieces. There are others out there.
If you go the pawn shop/antique store route -- keep in mind that these aren't necessarily fully vetted by someone trained in jewelry or specifically antique/vintage jewelry - so expect some mistakes regarding the era or style, as well as misidentification of stones. Diamonds also won't necessarily be certified stones (with grading). This will also impact things like claims about color, cut, ct. weight. There might be some mistakes regarding the gold content claims as well (markings can also be inaccurate).
Also -- when buying from anywhere besides a professional jeweler who specializes in antique pieces -- you'll have to have the ring inspected by a jeweler to make sure the setting is secure. You have to do this before you start wearing it daily. They can also verify the stones and the metal content. If the setting/prongs need be rebuilt this will cost money -- and depending on how elaborate the setting is - the labor costs will be a lot. Having a jeweler that has experience with antique and vintage pieces (including how to do these things while retaining the character/integrity of the design) will be really important. You'll need that someone for maintaining the ring (and for better or worse upkeep is a part of owning antique jewelry).
Resizing is also something to keep in mind. Eternity bands can't be resized. Tension settings can't be resized. Rings can usually tolerate about 2 sizes up or down but if you have a heavily decorated band (engraving), you won't be able to alter it without impacting the design. Some rings can't be sized because of their structure/architecture. You'll get good at judging this as you learn more about jewelry.
Even with all of this - I still vote antique/vintage every time. The craftsmanship is unparalleled and wearing a bit of history is pretty cool.
You do need to become more knowledgable about antique jewelry to do this well (for better or worse). Start with Lang's antique jewelry university - it's a blog. [https://www.langantiques.com/university/](https://www.langantiques.com/university/)
It'll help you better understand styles, eras, materials, and ways of identifying pieces. You can branch out from there. Looking at very well established niche jewelers who deal only in antiques will also give you a sense of the market and general range of the condition of pieces.
Congrats on the engagement!!! :)

We are in the middle of a remodel and I’m stuck on the idea of using the Chiltern pendant from the Urban Electric Co over our kitchen island. I love everything about it… except the price! This is a long shot, but thought I’d ask this community if there are any Chiltern pendant lights out there looking for a new home! I’ve set up searches on Charish, 1st Dibs, FB marketplace and eBay with no luck after a few months.
On the off chance someone has one they’re looking to sell, please reach out! I’m open to all color-ways and configurations. Thank you :)

It was probably purchased at auction on the East Coast 20ish years ago. The sales tag says "Arts and Crafts Arm Chair Circa 1900-1920 all original leather seat probably English". Just grabbed these for 40. I’m having a hard time figuring out what they are. I found an exact pair on this website:
https://www.1stdibs.com/fashion/accessories/sunglasses/new-vintage-oakley-e-wire-grey-iridium-lens-2001-sunglasses/id-v\_20533342/#zoomModalOpen
They don’t look like E wires as it suggests though imo. Am I wrong?

I’m restoring this previously massacred (not by me! back in the 70s) G-Plan E Gomme 19050s drop leaf table which had its legs sawn off (😭) as a first ever DIY project. It was in a horrific state and skip-worthy. It had previously been restained and varnished so I’ve sanded that off, having convinced myself it was solid wood. There’s veneer on the ends but everything else looked solid. Have just noticed a change in colour and texture where I’ve sanded slightly deeper on the top edge. I still can’t see visible edge of veneer on the main top, but this is making me anxious that it did indeed have veneer. The grain seems similar and the underneath is the same wood as the top.
Is this just a new layer of the solid wood or did it have very thin veneer on top? Wondering if I leave it as it is now, or sand the whole thing to match these corners. Let me know your thoughts.
Here’s what the original table would have looked like: https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/drop-leaf-tables-pembroke-tables/1950s-drop-leaf-dining-table-e-gomme/id-f\_47980152/

Hi reddit! I’m currently trying to boost my pottery business, it is all handmade and traditional from my country. My question is, which platforms are good for selling? So far, I know etsy, chairish, 1stdibs and perigold but to be honest, it is taking long to get a response from them so I’m actually not sure if it is normal that I applied over a week ago and still didn’t get any responses… is it normal? And also, is it true that I should post my vases on chairish and then wait for them to approve each post? Any recommendations or experiences? Any help is greatly appreciated, I don’t really have people in my circle that could advise

Mixing furniture styles can make a room interesting and dynamic, but it takes intention. The goal is to combine pieces that feel intentional rather than random. When contrast and harmony work together, you create spaces that feel curated, personal, and balanced.
[Image source: 1stDibs](https://preview.redd.it/7pkjcrps4rlg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab490c425d6b1b7405fcf5212fad4b9c5dfdf98f)
# Why Mix Furniture Styles
Blending different styles adds depth and personality. A modern piece next to a vintage item creates visual interest because the eye moves between contrast and continuity. The key is to find common elements that tie different pieces together so the room feels cohesive rather than chaotic.
# Use a Common Thread to Unite Styles
A successful mix needs a unifying factor. This could be color, material, scale, or texture. For example, a wooden modern coffee table can sit comfortably with a traditional armchair if their color tones are compatible. A consistent palette or repeated texture helps bridge different design languages.
[Image source: 1stDibs](https://preview.redd.it/ph0hvoow4rlg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=20538cf0b7791b5093582f889c13fa705f0023cd)
# Balance Through Scale and Proportion
Scale matters when combining styles. If one piece is oversized and the rest are small, the room will feel unbalanced. Try matching the visual weight of furniture so that no piece feels out of place. A large sofa can be balanced with an equally strong accent chair or sideboard.
# Contrast Adds Character
Contrast gives a sense of energy when done well. Pair sleek modern lines with something more detailed or ornate. Just be careful to maintain harmony by using at least one shared element such as color or material. This allows contrast without visual tension.
[Image source: 1stDibs](https://preview.redd.it/7uxo5du15rlg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=105bca517140786b997520d3f9e6dba2c91a2534)
# Group Pieces for Rhythm
Place furniture in groupings that feel purposeful. Group seating around a central point like a coffee table so the eye reads the area as one cohesive zone. Repeated elements such as cushions or decor accents in similar color tones can establish rhythm across the room.
# Edit With Purpose
Less can sometimes be more. Too many competing styles can make a space feel disjointed. Once you bring pieces together, step back and remove or reposition anything that does not contribute to harmony. A few striking contrasts are better than many noisy ones.
[Image source: 1stDibs](https://preview.redd.it/dzwdewc95rlg1.png?width=2268&format=png&auto=webp&s=8522a473a2b3b771c15b23dfd9dd7566b88e855e)
# Takeaway
Mixing furniture styles does not need to be daunting. Start with a unifying theme like color, material, or scale, then balance contrast and harmony. Thoughtful placement and purposeful editing result in spaces that feel dynamic, personal, and cohesive.
