* Mostly non-verbal main protagonists of iconic narrative-driven first-person shooter video game franchises, with elements of sci-fi and horror, themes of free will and oppression, and primarily feature dystopian settings. * Although they don't talk much, it's shown throughout their actual stories that they are highly resilient, intelligent one-man-armies, enduring through the chaotic situations they're thrust to, fighting against hordes of enemies with a variety of guns and their signature hand tool (Gordon's crowbar / Jack's wrench), all while saving innocents along the way. As unlikely as it would seem for multiple reasons, they would ultimately become beacons of hope and legends in their own right. * They find themselves in chaotic or dystopian settings, where they fight against and hunt down the evil, oppressive antagonists (The Nihilanth in HL1; Breen and the Combine in HL2 / Andrew Ryan), who send their forces against them in order to stop them, all while helping others along the way. They also notably fight against hordes of mutated or genetically modified humans (Zombie Headcrabs in HL1; The Zombie Headcrabs AND Combine soldiers in HL2 / Splicers). * Focusing on Half-Life 1: Gordon and Jack traverse through massive cities or complexes which are invisible to the public, are personally connected to them, and whose scientists have had a hand in morally questionable experiments (Black Mesa Research Facility / Rapture). * Focusing on Half-Life 2: Thrust into cities (City 17 / Rapture) by outside forces, they are hunted down by the genetically modified forces of intelligent and oppressive rulers (Wallace Breen / Andrew Ryan). They eventually manage to kill these rulers, though their journeys don't end there. * They are seen as liberators and saviors, becoming so infamous and legendary that they began being treated as messianic or god-like figures by certain groups, especially after defeating the first game's central antagonist (Gordon was seen as a messianic figure by members of the Resistance, humans and Vortigaunts alike; the Vortigaunts in particular highly revered Gordon for killing the Nihilanth, their enslaver / Jack was worshipped as a god-like savior by the Rapture Family, due to him being responsible for killing Andrew Ryan, the man who their leader, Sofia Lamb, ideologically opposed). * Their adventures would be kickstarted by a defining catastrophic event that would leave many dead (The Resonance Cascade / the airplane crash). While these seemed to be just accidents, it's eventually revealed that something more sinister was going on behind the scene... * While they help liberate others, they are tragically and ironically not free themselves. In fact, throughout most of their stories, they serve as the pawns to the sinister, manipulative overarching antagonists of their respective games (The G-Man / Frank Fontaine). These men are pretty much responsible for putting them through all that they had to face, manipulating where and when they go through supernatural means in order to further their own goals (The G-Man using his control over space-time to place Gordon in the right place at the right time / Frank Fontaine doing the same, but through his ability to mind control Jack through certain phrases). * The accidents that kickstarted their adventures turned out to be a lot more intentional than originally thought. While you could argue that they can be blamed for these incidents (Gordon participating in the experiment that lead to the Resonance Cascade / Jack hijacking the plane himself), the blame should really be put on their controllers, as these incidents were actually part of their schemes (The G-Man was the one who gave Black Mesa the Xen crystal sample that would be used in the experiment, something which he knew would bring forth unforseen consequences / Fontaine was the one who put Jack on the plane, giving Jack a letter and a gift that would tell him when and where he would hijack the plane and give him the resources to fascilitate it). * Their fights against the Combine and Andrew Ryan respectively are also parts of their controllers' schemes, basically acting as their soldiers without even realizing it. G-Man and Fontaine are responsible for deploying the protagonists in order to fight and either weaken or kill these oppressive rulers, although their intentions are far from benevolent, instead being motivated by their beef with the Combine and Ryan, respectively. * Gordon and Jack would gain unlikely allies in the form of initially unfriendly, bizarre-looking creatures with odd supernatural abilities (The Vortigaunts / The Little Sisters). These creatures would eventually grow to trust, look up to and become allies with the heroes, and would even help them fight back against their controllers. * They have prominent allies in the form of helpful scientists (Eli Vance / Brigid Tenenbaum), who also have a history with their controllers and are very much opposed to them, while also having previously worked for the rulers before the events of the game, and forming a bond with the aforementioned creatures as a whole (The Vortigaunts hold Eli in high regard and cooperate with him, especially since he was their "first collaborator" / Tenenbaum acts as a motherly figure towards the Little Sisters). * After travelling to the headquarters of the oppressive rulers (The Citadel / Rapture Central Control) and killing them, their controllers would appear or reveal themselves to them, giving one last speech before essentially trapping them (The G-Man placing Gordon in stasis again / Fontaine leaving Jack to die at the hands of the security system while trapped inside Ryan's office). They would ultimately be saved by the same creatures that grew to trust them (The Vortigaunts using their powers to pull Gordon out of stasis / The Little Sisters helping Jack escape through a vent). * Both would, eventually, finally, break free from their respective puppet-masters' control, thanks to the help of allies (The Vortigaunts using their powers to prevent the G-Man from contacting and controlling Gordon / Tenenbaum removing the Would You Kindly trigger that allowed Fontaine to control Jack). * In contrast to the Doomguys and Master Chiefs of their genres, Gordon and Jack pretty much appear to be average joes who found themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time (although this mostly applies to Gordon in HL1, and Jack ends up being kind of a twist on this kind of character funnily enough). * Bit of an odd connection, but I do want to point out the existence of a prequel installment (Half-Life: Alyx / BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode 2) where you play as the female deuteragonist of the previous game (Alyx Vance / Elizabeth), encounter Jack and Gordon's manipulators, and during the endings receive visions of future events. They would also see our heroes during these sequences. * Weird thing going on with their ages, where they're physically in their 20s when they really shouldn't be (Gordon should be at least in his 40s by the time of Half-Life 2, but due to being kept in stasis, he pretty much remained a 27 year old in every way / Jack is actually only four years old, but thanks to being experimented on, he ended up having the mind and body of a man in his 20s). * Can throw spherical objects to control a specific in-game enemy (Pheropods, which can control antlions / The Hypnotize Big Daddy Plasmid; pretty self-explanatory). * BioShock 1 references Half-Life at the beginning of the game, when "Atlas" tells Jack: "Now, would you kindly find a crowbar or something?" * Obvious Gravity Gun and Telekinesis Plasmid connection. * They're never releasing Half-Life 3 or BioShock 4. * Scientist vs was basically created by scientists. I was really tempted to make a connection involving Kleiner and Suchong to compliment the Eli/Tenenbaum connection, although I feel like it would've been more of a stretch in comparison. I guess I could try to elaborate on why I would even compare the two if anyone is interested, but don't expect it to make much sense

Yeah, I never played the original BioShock and didn't follow all of the hype before the release so I came at it from a really casual perspective and was able to appreciate it for what it was instead of lamenting what it wasn't. Edit: But I can see how a more dedicated fan of the series would come out of it feeling differently.

I'll never understand why the publisher didn't just have 2K Marin work on future BioShock games. They did an amazing job on BioShock 2 and that incredible DLC.

Rod Fergusson (best known as the producer of the original Gears trilogy), who is known as "The Closer" from the reputation he had in his days at Microsoft and Epic and added to the reputation when he ended up being brought in to help get Bioshock Infinite and later on Diablo IV over their finish lines.

Not technically *Bioshock*, but it's creative lead, Ken Levine, is working on *Judas* which is kind of a spiritual successor. I'm not sure for Bioshock 4 though, you may go check on [Bioshock's Wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioShock_(series)#Future_games), there is a lot about it being in the work.

BioShock 2 is my favorite and has the highest replayability than any other Bioshock and doesn't even require a new game+ because you are always essentially OP by late game

BioShock 1 was released in 2007. Burial at Sea was released in 2013. Game design for the series had progressed a lot more by then, and they wanted to show it off.

> Not in the eyes of the creatives behind it, which is important The creatives who made BioShock and are no no longer working on BioShock? The creatives have been handed an IP that the publisher thinks is an easy sell with a built in (meaning safe) audience. That's part of why it's taking so long, because the product hasn't really materialized without that OG crew behind it. > Why? Because the people who made it have moved on. Because it was good and it was complete.  > You mean the Halo series that was ended because of publisher headaches Yeah, the very same. Tell me Halo has been solid since the creative impetus behind it dispersed, and I'll show you a big fat fibber. > Mass Effect that was cut down due to publisher pressure and poorly handled rewrites Regardless, the OG trilogy is a solid touchstone in gaming history, and as bioware began to succumb to the deleterious effects of attrition over time they proved to be unable to match the quality of the OG with Andromeda. Not the same studio any more, and as a result different games are being made. > the Fable series that had an extremely excited team behind it around a new entry for years but kept getting publisher pressure Yeah. You seem to be aware of the issues with publisher pressure on studios. How do you not see the same issues with Bioshock and take2? They are way too involved and motivated by milking an already successful IP which are exactly the kind of conditions that result in these IPs being driven into the ground. Every. Single. Time. > Let them still try if they have creative juice to burn. That's how you get the pedigree and experience. That's how we get developers who build a name for themselves. They aren't being given creative freedom though. They are walking in a shadow of a thing that other people built, being told to confirm to that IP, tasked with capturing a new audience with an IP that is unfamiliar outside of an old audience. If take2 wanted to let a crew be creative they would let them make their own game. You don't make a name for yourself polishing somebody else's trophy. >  If the people making this new entry pushed a Bioshock 4 and it sucked, then it sucks. It doesn't just suck. Those studios tend to get shuttered and those folks tend to lose their jobs. And the legacy of the franchise gets muddied.  > What if it's good? What if the developers - newbie they may be - do something interesting? Turns out this way so rarely that it's not worth betting on. I don't care that they may be newbie devs, that kind of crew makes good games all the time. The issue is that they aren't the same folks who made the games to which they've been handed the keys. They lack all of the context for what they've been given. Hell even the same crew can fail to fully understand what they've made as people themselves change over time. > But the publisher won't allow that either. The publisher needs to sign off on the check at the end of the day. Ok? I'm not obligated to affirm the development of a game just because a studio works at the whims of a publisher. I think the publisher is the one making the mistakes and owning most of the problem here.

Strauss Zelnick, the boss of Take-Two, rarely drops emotional bombs. But this time, he couldn't stay quiet. In an interview with journalist Stephen Totilo for his Game File newsletter, Zelnick admitted: the development of BioShock 4 is painful. Like, really painful. Zelnick is a calm guy. He knows how to separate business troubles from real disasters. Rockstar delays? Fine. But what's happening with BioShock 4? That broke him. >"I experienced deep disappointment," he said. And that's putting it mildly. Let's not forget: the last game in the series came out in 2013. Yes, it's been 13 years. And BioShock 4 is still nowhere to be seen. Development has dragged on for nearly a decade. And according to Zelnick, a huge chunk of that time was just burning money. > "We wasted a lot of time and money chasing creative ideas that turned out to be dead ends," he explained. In 2025, 2K Games finally got serious. Cloud Chamber studio was hit with massive layoffs - over 80 people lost their jobs. Studio head Kelly Gilmore was fired. In her place came Rod Fergusson - a guy who used to run Diablo. Zelnick says he feels much better after the changes. But BioShock 4 still has no release date. Netflix, by the way, really wants to make a film adaptation. But syncing it with the game's launch? That might take a while. Money down the drain, years into the trash. Careful there, BioShock. >👉Follow and support "It's About Games" on other media.  Help to grow!    >👾[YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/@Its_About_Games)/[TikTok](https://www.tiktok.com/@its.about.games)/[Discord](https://discord.com/invite/3sWyFUmmcw)/[Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/its.about.games/)/[Twitter](https://x.com/RoomDen)/[Twitch](https://www.twitch.tv/itsaboutgames)/[Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/c/ItsAboutGames) 👾

>If the release calendar holds as currently constructed, Grand Theft Auto VI will launch into the waiting arms of millions upon millions of day-one players. And since it's likely to be the highest-grossing entertainment event in the history of mankind, it's fair to assume that the marketing push will be substantial. As we get ever-closer to the fall, Take Two's CEO has been giving revealing interviews about the insane money, expectations, and consequences behind Rockstar's much-anticipated project (and word on these digital streets is that Sony has secured the marketing rights to the game, which is absolutely massive for PlayStation 5). Are you ready to withstand a hype machine the likes of which you've never seen before? Plus: Strauss Zelnick expresses disappointment over Civilization VII and laments the lack of a new BioShock, a majority of consumers polled report never buying games at full price, Call of Duty is finally skipping PlayStation 4 moving forward, Yacht Club's Mina the Hollower gets a release date, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Should Sony reform its existing refund system on PSN? Is there an alternate reality where Sony kept the 007 film license in the '90s, thus opening up PlayStation to a series of James Bond games? Should PlayStation explore surprise reveals a la the new Star Fox? Does Colin have a potential business opportunity in the works naming other people's children? We finally have some clarity on what's been going on with the next BioShock game. In a recent interview with Game File, the Head of Take-Two addressed the deep frustration surrounding the sequel's massive delay. Originally announced back in 2019, the fourth game hit major development hurdles, forcing the publisher to replace the entire leadership team halfway through production. Take-Two stressed that their priority is releasing a "flawless" and "truly great" product rather than rushing a subpar game to market. They are confident in the new team's trajectory but won't be showcasing the game until it meets their high standards. **Hot Take:** While it's always terrifying to hear about mid-development reboots and leadership wipes, I deeply respect Take-Two's willingness to pump the brakes. A bad BioShock game would permanently damage the franchise's legendary reputation; taking the time to get it right is the only acceptable option. Which BioShock game do you like the most? Let's discuss! [https://www.mithrie.com/gaming/shorts/20260507-bioshock-sequel-delay-explained/]()

Main official thing is that Rod Fergusson, the current overseer and head of the franchise over at 2K, [said this](https://x.com/RodFergusson/status/1957824815018213692) back in August: >I’ll be heading up Cloud Chamber and overseeing development of the next BioShock game, **along with franchise extensions** like the in-development Netflix movie. So there's confirmation of plans outside just the 4th game and the Netflix film. And these last months there was a brand-new wave of 4 Funkos released after a DECADE without that kind of merch. So it's apparent they're open and looking for collabs. Aside of that there've been non-confirmed rumors of 2K having already made a deal with a game franchise for a BioShock collab, probably Fortnite if that's true. Nothing confirmed though, so the official thing is the first part!

After takin some time to decide what to get for the right side of my hand/arm—this called to me. I have a love/hate relationship with horror games, but Bioshock was somethin special. It’s one of the many games I’ve played over the years that had me wanting to come back and replay it again. The story is phenomenal, the hidden messages, relationships between characters. The lore is pretty deep and extensive. Originally it was gonna be the chains, and the quote. But I felt like it would look a lot better, and add more context, if the wrench was added. There’s more I want to add more to this tattoo when the times comes; perhaps an Eve Hypo, Plasmid Bottle, Splicer Mask, whatever is clever. But I’m happy to finally have a tattoo from a game I love! I genuinely hope we get Bioshock 4 and/or a movie or series!

I'm with you, but it's mainly due to the fact that we haven't gotten a new BioShock game in about 13 years (2 game console generations, with a third on the way). Plus out of all the games in the series, Infinite's story was the one that aged the worst compared to 1 and 2 (doesn't help with the addition of Burial at Sea)

Which is weird to me. They had (still have) a perfect vehicle for a narrative side-project; Elizabeth and her tears. Even just a web novel about her and Booker visiting alternate worlds has endless possibilities, and by all counts the fan base was there at the time Infinite came out, enough people would have tuned in to keep the franchise relevant. Relevency = money, whether it's getting a crossover appearance in Fortnite or getting a line of Funko pops on the shelves, you gotta stay relevant to stay in business The new BioShock rumor, I hope, is just that unless they're gonna go all out on cold-starting the long-dead franchise. Which is why they're timing it to release around the same time as the movie, which is being supposedly getting under production starting either later this year or next. Its gonna be interesting to see if they can pull it off

Recently, after many years, I went back to playing all three Bioshock games because I wanted to show a friend the story (my friend hates Elizabeth lol) and streamed the whole thing on discord. But once we finished Infinite and its DLCs, I decided to dive back in Bioshock just to kill Fontaine, and holy cow, it feels so good, that it fill that void left by the ending of Burial at Sea DLC 2. Not just because you kill that piece of 💩 (Fontaine), but also you reach that satisfying happy ending. And in my opinion, after replaying everything, I can say that all three games are phenomenal—even if Infinite's DLC have certain plot holes. Yet it doesn’t mean I don’t want quality for Bioshock 4; I want something good asf Without doubt, I love this franchise and I want more 🙏

Hello, I'm a big fan of the bioshock franchise. I played all the games and liked each one in some way. After Bioshock Infinite, the franchise stopped, and since then a lot of new things have happened. Ken Levine, the original creator, left the studio after the shutdown in 2014 and founded a new studio, Ghost Story Games, which has been developing Judas for a long time (recommended if you haven't been following along). Bioshock remained under the ownership of 2K, which in 2019 opened a new studio, Cloud Chamber, which is developing a new Bioshock. That's where it gets interesting, because the studio has had big problems since its inception. In addition to firing, and replacing the CEO, they never officially announced that new game. My question as one of the many fans of this franchise is will we ever get another Bioshock? What are your thoughts on all of this?

Some of the aspects I loved in the first game were that Rapture wasn’t such a static world, something random was always happening while I explored. Enemies wandering around and doing things, enemies getting into fights with Big Daddies, Big Daddies roaming alone or going to pick up Little Sisters from the vents, Little Sisters collecting ADAM from dead enemies while Big Daddies protected them etc.. I’d like those aspects to come back even better in the next game, with a more dynamic world. Another aspect I liked was the distribution of Big Daddies and Little Sisters to hunt. I’d like the next game to have something equivalent to them. You could also return to other areas later and collect Little Sisters you had missed. I’d love for the next game to have more exploration.

Yes this is one of those posts, sorry in advance This past Tuesday I was at an event in Québec where a handful of Cloud Chamber devs were helping out (they often do charity stuff like Blood Drives and such, this time it was a job fair in my campus which I won't disclose) I'm a huge fan of the franchise so I immediately recognized the pins they were using (CC logo). I told them I wish them the best and that I'm eagerly waiting for some updates on the new Bioshock. One of them told me I shouldn't have to wait too much longer. So I pushed a bit more to know specifics, and he told me "Weeks. Days. Literally a single week. Who knows" in a playful tone. I asked if he was fr and he told me "Keep an eye out for something incredibly soon, that's all I'll say today". Didn't want to push again so I left them be With the recent SOP rumors I wonder if that's where it's happening, if the single week comment was fr (doubt it'd be exactly at April 14th considering SOP are not usually on Tuesdays, so maybe the Xbox event?). tbh I don't fully believe them myself, it's probably just them pulling my leg, so don't fully believe me either (I know I wouldn't), but I thought it'd be interesting to say this regardless because the rumors of both the Playstation and Xbox events made me think twice and there might be a bit of truth to it and not just a random playful comment

So it's a Bioshock online multiplayer, Sander Cohen hosts a "game show" where splicers compete to win adam and Cohens favor. Eatch match is 15 players, you each start in a locked room where you get to pick your starting weapon and plasmid, then after a set time you are sent into the arena, you get points for kills, variety kills, bonuses, surviving set times, and for completing challenges that Cohen sets each round. The round goes till one player is left or time is up. After each round you get a set amount of time to upgrade and buy more stuff with the points you get. Each match goes 5 rounds and the winner is whoever has the most kills. Also thinking maybe add an element of chance/randomness when it comes to what weapons and upgrades appear and such. Can even add stuff from Infinite because of Burial at Sea. I know this probably needs alot of tweaks to be good and also lore friendly, but as a base concept I think it would be amazing. Let me know what you think!

While i think a BIOSHOCK 4 should be set in an underground city/inner earth/Agarthian type of city i do believe Rapture can still provide an interesting setting despite the first Bioshock's story and second Bioshock's story having already taken place there. I mean it would be interesting if 2K or 2k Marin released a spin-off game again set in Rapture where we would get to play yet again with a Big Daddy but instead of being an Alpha Series type of Big Daddy we would get to play as one of the later models that can't use plasmids only mounted weapons has the person inside being crafted into the suit this time around ,i mean the Rumblers type. Mark Melltzer was the protagonist of the game There's something in the Sea ,Mark was a man from the surface investigating the strange disappearences of several young little girls into the ocean that he later found out were abductions from Big Sisters.

I don't hate bioshock infinite but it feels nothing like bioshock. I think the best choice for a fourth game would be a prequel, set during the civil war.

Finished the Bioshock series for the first time and I loved every bit of it (except some bits about Infinite but those are mainly minor things like the HUD being so small and only being able to use two weapons/vigors), this ending was absolutely mindblowing! From the giant bird destroying the statue siphon to ending up in Rapture again, riding the Bathysphere up and going into the lighthouse only to go back to the start and reveal the truth about Booker and Elizabeth? Honestly, I don’t think we need a Bioshock 4. I think this is THE ending to complete the trilogy, endless cycles of constants and variables

I've long ago given up caring about how infinite completely screwed up execution due to development issues and biting off way more than levine could chew. It had some glimpses of brilliance but really from both a story and gameplay perspective it was a drop in quality for the series. It was also way more heavily marketed and surrounded by people horny for Elizabeth so became wildly successful anyway. Hard to notice the core gameplay that was stripped out when a lot of players never played a BioShock game before. My only worry is this so called new BioShock will just be following in infinites footsteps.

I just finished playing this whole series back to back, here are my thoughts on each of the games (also please note that I don't talk much about things I like, but for things I have problems with or are debated I talk a lot): **Bioshock 1** * I liked the atmosphere in this game the most, the opening scene with Rapture and Ryan talking is such an iconic one. * This has my favorite set of characters in the series, with my favorite being Ryan, he just exudes such a strong charisma. * My favorite twist, honestly I kinda knew Atlas was gonna turn on me, but I thought it was going to be something like we disagree on a core issue and we turn on each other (since it was shown when he disagreed with Tenenbaum about harvesting the Little Sisters), however him being Fontaine actually threw me off guard. * Strong gameplay, I thought it was gonna feel aged but honestly it was great, I love the gameplay loop in it. * I wish boss battles were better, they were kinda underwhelming especially the final one and felt more like higher HP splicers, the big daddies fights were far better, this generally apply to all games though. * I saw many say the last quarter of the game the quality drops and I disagree, listening to Fontaine yapping was entertaining and playing as a Big Daddy was fun. * I like the ending (got the good one), I wish they expanded on it a bit but overall I thought it ended on a good note. **Bioshock 2** * I really like the concept of playing as a Big Daddy, since I liked that part in the first game, they also always made me feel bad since they don't really strike you first and the way the Little Sisters mourn them after they go down, so playing as a Big Daddy waking up and going after his Little Sister was a very good concept. * I liked the overall story, not as much as the other 2 games but like I said I really liked the concept, but I didn't feel it has as much "meat" in it, don't know if the story was changed due to some time constraints but the whole Mark Meltzer subplot felt rushed/altered, and even his daughter had the same appearance as all the others, even though in the first game they were not the exact same character model, really wished they expanded on that plot line, same with Sinclair, his part felt rushed/altered. * I liked how the game features 8 endings based on the combinations of your actions regarding the Little Sisters and the NPCs, however I felt the NPC part sorta didn't make sense, in my playthrough I killed Alexander (because it was his request) and Stanley (he was sneaky toward the end) but spared Grace since there was a misunderstanding in the whole thing, however watching this Eleanor thought the conclusion was to save Lamb? I know you need to kill all 3 for her to kill Lamb which doesn't make sense imo since I feel only the Stanley situation is relatable to the Lamb one, Gil in particular felt irrelevant since his situation was quite tricky. * The gameplay was by far the best here, it took Bioshock 1 gameplay and made it far better, having the Big Daddy drill and being able to hold weapons and plasmids at the same time was such a good improvement, I also like the gathering ADAM from corpses with Little Sisters part. * I hoped the port was better, thanks to some fixes i was able to minimize crashes however there were 2 points where the game constantly kept crashing and had to squirt around to avoid them. **Bioshock 2** ***Minerva's Den*** A great DLC, it had the right length, a great partly self-contained story and I liked the twist at the end, although I wish rescuing or harvesting Little Sisters here had some consequences by the end cause it felt like padding at the end and the antagonist was the weakest here. **Bioshock Infinite** From my search in the community this felt like an extremely divisive entry, and I mean EXTREMELY, I've seen people calling it a masterpiece while others call it a trash bad game. Personally after I played it I found it had a great story, characters and a fine gameplay, basically this game for me had the higher highs and lower lows of the series, so I'm gonna talk quite a bit here. * I like the story here the most, also Columbia doesn't falter against Rapture and imo is just as good although I like Rapture more due to spending 2 games + 2 DLC exploring every inch of its lore and ideologies while Columbia is just 1 game.I heard some say Bioshock should be only rapture and i disagree and happy that this game was in a different location since i was getting a bit burnt out of that first setting. * 1 decisive point I've seen discussion about was the multiverse stuffn I've seen people calling the last hour the worst in the game while others the best .I felt it really depend on who you ask,if you want the series to stay grounded and don't mind them going wild and personally I lean to the latter, and this is largely due to my bias and love for multiverse/timelines/time travel… etc sort of plot, while there are some problems for sure, it still elevated the story to be my favorite in the series, although I will say the last hour story should have been explained or the twist hinted better in-game since many people finished the game and didn't understand that part at all. * The Vox Populi plot point, I've seen many debates about, basically calling it a centrist view of "both sides are bad" but imo it was more about the reality of revolution and how in some cases even the oppressed can commit mass civilian atrocities (like the 1804 Haitian Massacre) and their leaders can become extremist and tyrannical themselves basically creating sort of a cycle, but I will agree on one thing is that I think the game should have waited a bit or even shown a bit more before having Elizabeth make her sudden switch, dunno if Americans are extra sensitive about this topic but coming from a region where similar situations are happening right now, it felt like a valid point. * Many of the technical side here felt worse in many ways despite being newer (although no bugs or crashes here thankfully), first of all I didn't like how voxophones weren't subtitled like the other games, sometimes it's not clear what they say so I have to go to the menu to read it there many times, also this game while being more of a COD-like shooter it also features some elements of the sim stuff in other games, this weird in-between caused me problems with that lack of map and lack of manual saves. Lack of map here because the game progression is linear and often no backtracking but there are still some optional explorable rooms or houses and the sidequests, what I had to do was basically go every way except the arrow until only that way is left, and for the saves it's infuriating when it's a big hub and I have to quit then have the last 20 min of exploration and battles all over again, this happened in that hub before Comstock House. * The gameplay was quite a drop here but still good for a quite linear fps but i still like the first 2 games more in that regard, the lack of different ammo types for different enemy varieties lessened the tactical play, but I didn't really mind that linear approach although I prefer the old one. Having extremely similar weapons for both Columbian forces and Vox Populi cluttered things a bit especially when it came to weapon upgrades and in the end I had to choose to stick to just 1 type unless necessary. However Sky-Hook was such a great addition that made certain parts very fun to play, especially the last one. * One criticism I agree about is that the plot sometimes felt like chunks of different plots stuck together which from what I've heard was due to development issues, especially the sudden switch from revolution part and racism part to the multiverse part, I watched a video where they showed a lot of cut content and thought it was a shame it wasn't included. **BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea** This one was a very mixed bag, many parts I liked, others I was mixed about and others I hated. * I liked seeing Rapture again and exploring how it was before falling apart, seeing and hearing about familiar characters, but it was clear Ken completely disregarded Bioshock 2 with that big amount of retcons to it. * My complaints about the technical side are still the same from Infinite although the smaller size here lessens the issue. * Having full guns inventory and similar map layouts to Bioshock 1/2 vastly improved the gameplay especially in Episode 1 where that mattered the most, some complained about the presence of Sky-Hook in Rapture but the addition of some elements for gameplay purposes is not really strange in sequels. * The stealth portion in episode 2 felt quite a bit forced on a game not designed for stealth, some of the plasmids do help but generally does not compare with a game fully designed for that kind of gameplay in the first place. * The Daisy Fitzroy retcon felt very forced, I felt the original intention was better in terms of the story but here it really achieved nothing since it undermined a part of the main game and didn't really retcon the rest of the army so it all felt really unnecessary. * A part of me likes how they linked Infinite with the rest of the series but another part of me kinda wishes they didn't do it to that degree, I especially didn't like how the whole thing started because Elizabeth who was acting all knowing by the end of Infinite decided to go that far and risk many things for a Comstock who literally traveled to the future and had his memory wiped, for me it wasn't really worth it and he wasn't really a danger to anyone at that state especially with how that whole thing turned out for her at the end but her final sacrifice for the Little Sisters makes things a bit better. **Final rankings:** I saw many people say that Bioshock 2 was the black sheep of the series or that it was Infinite, for me none of them are and all 3 are actually close in quality, however overall i like the first one for being strong in all parts without a noticeable weakness, which is why i talked about it the least. Gameplay: BS2 > BS1 > BS Infinite Story: BS Infinite ≥ BS1 > BS2 Characters: BS1 ≥ BS Infinite > BS2 Overall: \- Main Games:BS1 (9.5/10) > BS Infinite (9/10) > BS2 (8.5/10) \- DLC: Minerva's Den > Burial at Sea I heard Bioshock 4 and Ken Levine's new game Judas are releasing soon, or maybe will still be in development hell but still excited to play them both.I will take a pause from this genre for while but i heard Dishonored series and Prey are quite similar to this,so i will try them too eventually. Overall i thank this community where i found many helpful tips and cleared many confusion i had with this story.

New reports say BioShock 4 might be going for an open-world immersive sim approach instead of the classic linear structure. That’s a big shift considering how focused games like BioShock and BioShock Infinite were. Some fans think the extra freedom could make the world feel deeper. Others worry it could lose the tight storytelling the series is known for. Do you think BioShock should evolve… or stick to its original formula?

I think that before a bioshock 4 ever comes out 2K should first release a bioshock online multiplayer or single player offline game(against IA bots instead of real players so the game isn't dependent on internet connection)where we could play as any big daddy type such as the rumbler ,the bouncers, the elite bouncers, the rosie the elite rosies and so on... With our objective being to save or harvest the little sisters after battling and killing the splicers that were attacking the little sisters which in turn could controlled by other players kinda similar to dead space 2's multiplayer which one team would be the engeneers while the other team would play as the necromorphes or RESIDENT EVIL 6's AGENT HUNT multiplayer mode,an online mode that allowed players to play as/ takecontrol of the zombies and other B.O.W.S type of game i for one think it would pretty neat to play as either a spider splicer or a brute splicer against a big daddy there could also be another team of players that could play as/take control of unspliced normal humans with guns that could hack turrents and surveillance cameras as well as flying shooting bots. Bioshock 2's multiplayer does feature a game mode called CAPTURE THE LITTLE SISTERS where we get to take control of a Rosie big daddy type and use his rivet gun which is different than Subject Delta's rivet gun.

Every time I replay Prey (2017) I think this is possibly the best immersive sim I've played and the potential if they'd taken the game design and applied it to BioShock is enormous. I always wanted to play the more sim focused development build they first showed off. Focusing on action definitely gave it mass market appeal, but more complexity in gameplay mechanics would really enhance the series imo.

post r/Bioshock u/Benjamin5431 2026-02-23
Introduction: I wanted to come up with a new bioshock game that takes all the best things about the first 3 games and combines them all into one, making a game that feels familiar and classic, but also completely fresh and unique. So I had an absolutely crazy idea. It sounded dumb at first, even to me, but the more I thought about it, the more it made complete sense. My idea for a new setting for a bioshock game is this: Libertalia: The Hidden Pirate Republic. Libertalia is a real life historical legend, it’s a 17th-century anarchist colony off the coast of Africa, reputedly founded by Captain Misson as an egalitarian utopia free from slavery, with shared wealth and democratic governance. The colony was led by French pirate Misson and a defrocked Italian priest, aiming for a society without tyranny, according to Captain Charles Johnson. It is mentioned in a 1724 book A General History of the Pyrates, but is considered to be mostly fictional by historians. I first had the idea after playing Uncharted 4, which involves finding this lost city. When you finally find it and arrive there, there are skeletons everywhere that tell a story of a city where things went completely wrong. A utopian city hidden away from the rest of society where everything goes to hell reminded me a lot of Bioshock. I think this setting would be perfect because it would bring back the spooky nautical aesthetic/sea horror aspect of the first two Bioshock games that I really love, while also having the more sunny feel and colonial architecture of Infinite. Both types of atmospheres could be utilized. It would involve a hidden utopian city, an enigmatic and visionary founder for the city, a unique vision for the city’s society, and corruption of nature that causes everything to collapse. This game would serve as a prequel of sorts to the first bioshock. It feels both totally different yet familiar and true to the first game. Synopsis: in the 1740s, near the end of the golden age of piracy, You play as an explorer, named Thomas Braithwaite, who has spent his whole life building a crew and sailing around the world to find the legendary pirate utopia, Libertalia. But when you get there, your ship is attacked by a sea monster, and you awake on the shore, barely conscious. What you find is that the city is mostly abandoned, at least at first, until you witness hordes of mutant pirates and sailors who appear as if they have been cursed by dark voodoo magic. You meet a band of rebel pirates who are trying to survive and take the island back, you join up with them to fight your way to the elusive founder’s private island, so that you can get answers and set things right. Backstory: Libertalia was founded by one of the most successful pirates of his time, Captain Elias Blackburn, who wanted to make a haven for pirates and a utopia where everyone was free from tyranny and restrictive laws, where everyone’s basic needs were met by a communal style of living and shared wealth, and where individual success came from your own merit, and not the class you were born into. A blending of arnarchy, communism, and libertarianism into one society. Captain Blackburn was obsessed with finding what he called a “Sea Monster” which he dubbed “The Leviathan” he spent most of his life tracking it after his first encounter with it took his right arm. He finally tracked it down to an Archipelago off the coast of Latin America, where he believed was its lair deep underneath. This sea monster is actually a sea slug (from the first Bioshock) which is ancient and has grown to an enormous size, the Sea Slugs we see in the first two Bioshock games are actually larval versions of this creature, but it takes millions of years for them to reach this size. When Captain Blackburn first landed on the island, he met a voodoo witch who already lived there. She told him about the monster’s life cycle, that it uses the area to lay eggs, and tells him that its blood gives magical powers to those who drink it. She tells him that whoever slays the Leviathan and drinks its blood would become so powerful that they’d be like a God, but it’s too powerful for one man alone to defeat. Blackburn gets the idea to unite all pirates together, he feels that they should be working together against the governments that want to destroy them, so he invites all the world’s best pirates, uses his stash of wealth to buy the services of the world’s best craftsmen and architects and artisans, and invites many of those in servitude and slavery in the Caribbean to come build and live in his pirate haven, with the hopes that they will all be prepared to destroy the Leviathan when it awakens from its slumber next cycle. The sea slug larvae and eggs are harvested, their blood is used as the main ingredient in voodoo potions and tonics that give the workers and citizens enhanced abilities. At first, this works great and allows them to build a great city, but over time, they start to mutate, their genes mixed and spliced with the genes of the animal parts they mix into the tonics as ingredients, they go mad, transform into fish-like and animal-like mutants, and pure anarchy takes over. Captain Blackburn disappears, hiding away from his failed city in his private island that is locked away from the rest of the archipelago. His former pirate rival, Captain Harper, which became his right hand man during the founding of Libertalia, attempts to take over the island for himself, and aims to kill the Voodoo witch that Blackburn allied himself with. A small group of resistance fighters and survivors who aren’t allied with either Blackburn or Harper live on the outskirts of the islands, waiting for their chance to rid the island of its evil. How the game works: The game will not be open-world, but will have interconnected levels with large explorable areas, think of the dark souls franchise. The game takes place on an archipelago of 7 islands, which each island being unique and mostly open to explore. There will be beaches, towns, jungles, underwater caverns and grottos, dock-towns, large mansions, a ship graveyard, underwater segments, pirate ships, caves, and more to explore. Wildlife: This will be the first Bioshock to include wildlife, which will be essential for crafting, and will add to the sandbox element and the use of the environment which is a staple of Bioshock’s gameplay formula. On land, there will be Jaguars, Ocelots, Howler Monkeys, Parrots and other birds, crabs, crocodiles, spiders, turtles, frogs, etc. In the sea, there will be various species of sharks, crabs, eels, dolphins, whales, jellyfish, pufferfish, sea urchins, squid, octopus, anglerfish, etc. Some of these animals can attack you and other enemies, and they can be killed and looted for tonic crafting ingredients. Some tonics allow you to make animals fight for you. Some animals will be mutated and more powerful because of the presence of the sea slugs on the island. For example, a gigantic spider boss, or a huge shark boss. Parrot gameplay mechanic: You have a parrot companion that sits on your shoulder out of sight and can be used in various ways. You can direct him to distract enemies by flying at them, whistle to alert them to a different location, and you can send the parrot out to look for crafting ingredients, ammo, health, or gold, similar to the scavenger robot in Dead Space 3. You can also directly control the parrot to scout ahead or use for puzzles. ADAM/EVE: In this game, ADAM comes from the sea slugs like they do in the first two Bioshocks, but since this takes place beforehand, its called “Black Brine” or just “Brine” instead. Eve is found in alcoholic drinks, and since this is a pirate game, the primary way of getting EVE is by drinking the various bottles of rum and beer found throughout levels. EVE will be called “Aldehyde” in this game. Plasmids/Vigors: Instead of Plasmids and Vigors, they are simply called “Tonics” There are active tonics and passive tonics. Active ones are like plasmids, you equip them like weapons. Passive tonics are like the gene tonics in the first two Bioshocks which work like perks. Crafting Tonics/Voodoo/Alchemy: Most Tonic abilities are not found in the world or bought from stores, instead they are crafted using voodoo and alchemy. The main ingredient is always ADAM (Brine) and alcohol, then other ingredients found from animals or plants. For example, something like Electric Eel organs, seaweed, brine and alcohol makes a tonic that gives you the ability to shoot electricity out of your hands. Craft more of it to upgrade the tonic to the next levels. The genes of the animals used in the ingredients is spliced with your own when you drink it due to the ADAM reworking your genes, giving you abilities similar to that animal. All the plasmid/vigor abilities from previous games will return, but rebranded to fit with the pirate theme. There will be new abilities as well, such as a Jaguar themed tonic that gives you cat-like reflexes, allows you to run at incredible speeds and jump higher, and melee in quick succession with cat claws on your hands. And “Blowfish Blast” which turns your skin into blowfish spikes which shoot out and poison enemies. Tonics will also have two modes, a primary function and a secondary/ alt fire. For example, coral calamity can turn people into pillars of coral, or you can fire it at the ground to make patches or walls of coral that you can use as cover or for climbing. Enemy types: The “splicers” in this game are pirates that have over-used tonics and are mutated, literally being chimeras of fish and animal and human parts, similar to the crew of the Flying Dutchman in Pirates of The Caribbean. Here are a few examples: Siren Splicers: “Mermaids” who have fish fins for legs and sharp teeth. (Underwater enemy) Blowfish Buccaneers: pirates whose torsos expand and shoot out pufferfish spikes if you get too close. Octo-splicers: pirates with tentacles for arms, can wield multiple weapons at a time, and grapple you with their tentacles. Squid-Splicers: (replaces Houdini splicers) pirates who can blast a cloud of ink and dash away quickly, can also camouflage to the environment and hide and wait before jumping out and attacking with melee weapons or hook hands. Spider Splicers: (replaces spider splicers from the first game) pirates that have their lower body transformed into spider legs, can walk on ceilings and walls and shoot you with spider silk that traps you to the floor. Bullshark Marauder: a tanky enemy that has their head and upper torso like that of a shark, has a strong bite, can carry large weapons like a portable cannon. Some variants carry a large warhammer, are called hammer heads. Crab goon: pirate whose skin is hardened crab chitin, can withstand most damage, except headshots and elemental damage, hands are crab claws that do significant melee damage. This enemy walks sideways like a crab, making it harder to hit their head. There will also be regular type pirates who have swords and muskets and use fire tonics and electro tonics and such Big Daddy/Little Sister: There will be a big daddy type enemy, called Abyss Guardians. They were created by infusing them with many tonics that make them adapted to survive on the ocean floor. They are barely human, having been loaded with tonics that give them gills to breathe underwater and changes that allow them to survive the immense pressure of the sea floor. Their heads look like angler fish, and they often carry a large anchor which they can swing around and use as a weapon. They make groans that sound like low whale vocalizations, because they literally are part whale. They also make a distinctive sound when they walk due to their chains and anchor dragging across the ground and their heavy footsteps. They were created to protect the Brine Gatherers, called the Keelhauled, which replace the little sisters. They are a bunch of near-skeleton like zombies in a single gibbet cage, similar to the cage spider enemies from dark souls 3. They use their arms and legs that hang out of the cage to crawl around the sea floor, and use their many arms to harvest ADAM/Brine from sea slugs and egg clusters. They will softly sing sea shanties in a ghostly voice, like “Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for meeee” The lore is that they and the abyss guardians were criminals who stole from other pirates, so this is their punishment. The player has the ability to put the keelhauled out of their misery, or harvest all their ADAM/Brine. This has different outcomes later on in the game. Voodoo enemies: Some enemies exist due to voodoo powers, like spectral pirate phantoms which can only be hurt with silver swords or silver bullets, and skeleton pirate enemies which almost come back alive unless you use tonic abilities to burn them to ash or trap them/incapacitate them. U-invent: U-invent will be replaced with alchemy and black smithing. Alchemy crafting will be similar to fallout 4 chem stations or Skyrim alchemy, but with a voodoo theme. And black smithing will allow you to melt down weapons and materials to create new weapons and make upgrades, useful for creating silver weapons and bullets to fight ghosts, also to repair or replace broken weapons. Weapon degradation: iron weapons will rust in water over time, powder charged guns will become rusted or too salty and sandy, and eventually these weapons will break. Blacksmithing is required to repair or replace broken weapons. Weapons in the game will include: Portable cannons, Spear gun, Flintlock pistols, muskets, musketoons, pepper box pistols, blunderbuss, cutlass swords, axes, swivel guns, knives/daggers, flails, blow darts, and various other swords. In the world of Libertalia, pirate inventors have invented a way to shoot limited number of multiple powder changes and musket balls consecutively without needing to reload each time (so the player doesn’t spend a full minute reloading after each shot) Dual wielding: you are able to dual equip tonics and weapons, in any combination. For example, dual flintlock pistols, or, duo electric eel tonic for extra damage. Also able to mix and match tonics, for example use tidal wave in one hand to get enemies wet then use electric eel in the other hand to shock them. Puzzles: The game will be slightly more puzzle focused in certain areas, it will be somewhat metroidvania inspired in this way. Certain areas are locked until you complete a puzzle or figure out how to navigate the environment. There will be Mayan/aztec temples in the world that will require the player to solve puzzles and avoid booby traps, they will work similarly to the “trial shrines” from Zelda: Breath of the Wild or the challenge tombs from Tomb Raider. Most of them are optional but give ADAM or a special tonic as a reward. There is no “one way” to solve problems in puzzles, it’s up to the player’s creative use of tonic abilities. For example, say you have a door that requires a counterweight to open. You can either use the sponge tonic to absorb water and release it onto the the counterweight, or you can use the magnetism tonic to place heavy cannonballs into the counterweight, or use coral calamity to fill the counterweight with coral, or use the spectral tonic to turn into a ghost and phase through the door. However the player figures it out, there is no single solution. Some tonics that aid in puzzle solving and environment navigation: Tidal wave: shoot a stream water out of your hands, or hold it down to make a tidal wave. Damage Sponge: absorb water when standing in it then release the water Magnetism: move metal objects around, attract metal objects from a distance and launch them Orb Weaver: connect objects together with spider webs Spectral Summoning: phase through walls as a ghostly projection Undertow: use tentacles on grapple points, or to reach far away objects Feline Ferocity: sprint at incredible speeds and jump higher, useful for timed puzzles and platforming. Coral Calamity: make pillars of coral that you can climb on, useful for platforming. Inferno: burn away most wooden objects Merchants: some shops, taverns and traveling merchants and voodoo merchants exist that can sell you unique tonics, limited crafting supplies and materials, ammo and health (and alcoholic drinks of course.) Tidal wave: first tonic of the game. Sort of replaces and combines sonic boom and cyclone trap. Hold the trigger down to create a large wave that knocks enemies down and stuns larger enemies. Secondary ability: Shoot a stream of water out of your hands, useful for environmental puzzles and for getting enemies wet (which enhances other tonics, like electric eel) Level 2: hold down trigger for longer to create a whirl pool that pulls enemies into it for a period of time and throws them out. Smaller enemies are ragdoll’d, larger enemies are slowed or stunned. Level 3: larger whirlpool that lasts longer and attracts more enemies and damages them over time. Electric Eel: Replaces Electro-bolt/Shock Jockey and Electrical Storm. Ingredients: electric eel organs+alcohol+ADAM Gives the ability to shoot electric bolts at enemies Secondary ability: the eel can bite nearby enemies. Level 2: the electricity can chain between enemies Level 3: getting melee’d causes a burst of electricity to emit from the player, damaging the attacking enemies. Enemies who are wet, underwater, or standing in water take double damage. (Using Tidal Wave in one hand and Electric Eel in the other hand is highly effective) Magnetism: Replaces Telekinesis and Return to Sender. Ingredients: iron ore+alcohol+ADAM Gives the ability to pick up cannonballs (and any other metallic objects, like swords, nails, etc) from a distance and launch them at enemies. Secondary ability: create a magnetic shield that catches enemies’ musket balls/bullets/cannon balls in mid-air and fires them back at them Level 2: pick up multiple objects and launch them in a scatter shot pattern, the longer you hold down the trigger the more objects accumulate in your grasp Level 3: steal guns and swords right out of enemies’ hands. Coral Calamity: Replaces Winterblast. Ingredients: various species of Coral+alcohol+ADAM Coral grows from whereever you aim it, shooting enemies causes them to slow down. Sustained targeting makes enemy turn into a pillar of coral which can be knocked into pieces. Larger enemies can be temporarily immobilized, but not shattered. Secondary ability: create a wall or patches of coral, can be useful to use as cover, also can use for environmental puzzles and navigation (the coral can be climbed on) Level 2: larger radius, turn multiple enemies into coral at a time, chained enemies turn into a coral reef Level 3: instantaneously turn enemies into a pillar of coral Blowfish Blast: Ingredients: Pufferfish toxin+Sea Urchin Spines+Alcohol+ADAM Makes the player’s skin grow spikes that look like sea urchin spines and pufferfish spikes, when you melee an enemy it poisons them and damages them over time, poison wears off eventually. Secondary ability: instantly blow up and send spikes outwards in all directions, hitting any targets near you and around you. Level 2: poison does more damage over time, lasts longer. Level 3: striking the same enemy consecutively causes poison damage to increase exponentially with each hit, combo hits can quickly kill enemies with poison. Very risk/reward for big daddy fights. Crab shell: replaces Armored shell and wrench jockey. Ingredients: crab claws+conch shell+alcohol+ADAM When activated, turns the player’s skin into hardened crab chitin, doubles the player’s health meter temporarily. Secondary ability: the player’s arm turns into a crab claw, enhances melee damage and can grapple enemies to use as human shields or throw them. Level 2: claw pincher attack can decapitate regular enemies. Level 3: become impervious to all damage for 10 seconds, but walk slower. Pairs well with the Damage Sponge Tonic. Damage Sponge: Ingredients: Sea Sponge+Alcohol+ADAM Turns player’s skin into porous, sponge-like material, gives ability to withstand more damage from incoming attacks, absorbs bullets and elemental attacks. Any bullets/musket balls absorbed by the player is added to the player’s ammo inventory. Any elemental damage absorbed is added to the player’s EVE meter. Secondary ability: when standing in water or underwater, hold trigger to absorb water, release trigger to shoot water out in all directions, knocking down nearby enemies. (Also useful for certain puzzles which involve removing water or adding water to a specific place) Orb Weaver: replaces insect swarm/Murder of Crows. Ingredients: spider silk+spider eggs+alcohol+ADAM Cast a web filled with spiders which bite enemies and poison them, continuously casting it on a target causes them to get stuck in spider silk and slows down their movement. Secondary ability: stick objects or enemies together with web ropes. (Fire once to attach one end of the silk rope, then fire again to attach the other end, useful for anchoring enemies to a specific spot or attaching objects together for certain puzzles) Level 2: Continuously cast onto the target to wrap them completely in spider silk and temporarily immobilize them and make them unable to attack. Causes larger enemies to be stuck to floor temporarily, but can still attack. Level 3: cast onto the target for longer and they become completely cocooned in spider silk, permanently incapacitated. Can still be looted. Temporarily make larger enemies stuck and unable to attack. Undertow: Ingredients: Octopus eye+alcohol+ADAM Arms turn into tentacles which can reach out and grab targets to either throw them, pull them towards you for easy melee strikes, or slam them down. (Once enemy is grappled, the Control stick direction determines which attack is used) Secondary Ability: repeatedly tap the melee button to strike enemies from a distance with the tentacles, which performs a combo which ends in a leg sweep that knocks enemies down. Can also use this ability to grab onto ledges or pull yourself up to grapple points for environmental navigation. (With no Eve cost) Level 2: when locked onto a target, a button prompt will display, giving you the option to take their weapon with your tentacles. Level 3: hold the trigger to squeeze enemies to death, or rip them in half when dual wielding this ability. Siren Song: replaces Hypnotize Big Daddy and Enrage and Possession. Ingredients: Mermaid vocal cords+alcohol+ADAM. Cast sound waves of siren’s singing that hypnotize and pacify enemies, causing them to enter a trance and not attack for a temporary amount of time. Secondary ability: cast an alternate song that causes enemies to defend you from anyone attacking you. Both abilities affect big daddies, but for a shorter time. Level 2: larger target area, can affect multiple enemies at once. Level 3: the effect is permanent (until they die) for regular enemies, lasts longer than before on big daddies. Spectral Summoning: replaces Target Dummy and Scout. Ingredients: Ectoplasm+ bioluminescent plankton+Alcohol+ADAM Summon a ghostly pirate phantom that distracts enemies or makes them run away in fear. Secondary Ability: take control of the phantom to scout ahead or phase through walls (useful for certain puzzles) Level 2: the phantom actually does damage against enemies that it attacks, rather than just distracting them. Level 3: cast multiple phantoms simultaneously. Inferno: replaces Incinerate/Devil’s kiss/Geyser Trap and Fire Storm. Ingredients: cooled magma rocks+gun powder+alcohol+ADAM Shoot a stream of molten lava out of your hands to light enemies on fire, can be shot to the ground to make lines of lava that hurt enemies that walk across it. Sustained casting can turn enemies into a pile of ash. Secondary Ability: flick a handful of gunpowder to cause several scattered mini explosions that lightly damage, stun, and disorient enemies. Level 2: lava burns for longer period of time and causes more damage. Secondary ability instantly lights enemies on fire. Level 3: holding down the secondary ability causes a miniature volcanic eruption that hurls enemies in its blast radius into the air. Release a burst of flames when struck by melee attacks. Howler Screech: sort of replaces Sonic Boom and Security Bullseye and Enrage and Possession. Ingredients: Howler Monkey Paw+Frog Legs+Alcohol+ADAM Howl like a howler monkey which stuns and disorients enemies and temporarily scares away wildlife. Hold the trigger to perform a louder screech which sends foes flying. Secondary Ability: Yell an alternative call which makes nearby wildlife fight on your side. (Pairs well with Feline Ferocity) Feline Ferocity: (replaces sportsboost) Ingredients: Ocelot paw+Jaguar fang+alcohol+ADAM Become part-feline, body becomes more furry with jaguar spots, with sharp claws on hands, gives you the ability to move incredibly fast, jump farther and higher, and melee at rapid speed, with extra damage from the claws. Sprinting causes player to run on all four’s at extreme speed. This entire ability immediately stops when you touch water. Secondary Ability: Cat Call: attract a hostile jaguar to your location (useful because it will attack other enemies when paired with howler screech) Feeding Frenzy: Ingredients: Jellyfish Jelly+Baracuda scales+shark teeth+Alcohol+ADAM Summons and launches predatory fish at the enemy which latch onto and bite the enemy, causing a bleeding effect. If in the ocean, bleeding attracts sharks which attack the enemy Secondary ability: summons and launches jellyfish at the enemy, slows the enemy down and poisons them, can also be shot at the ground as a trap, or create a long net of jellyfish stingers as a trap if underwater. Level 2: hold the trigger down to summon a floating school of fish in front of you that you control with the control stick, enemies inside the school get devoured into a skeleton after a few seconds. Level 3: sharks are sometimes summoned and do much more damage. Dead Man’s Tale: sort of replaces possession. Late game Tonic. Ingredients: Bone Dust+Voodoo Doll+alcohol+ADAM Resurrect skeletons and corpses in the environment and the corpses of enemies you have killed to fight for you, effect is temporary, works on corpses of larger enemies including big daddies, can resurrect multiple corpses at a time. Secondary Ability: create a portal to Davy Jones Locker on the ground beneath where the enemy is standing, chains and skeleton arms reach up and grab the enemy, temporarily incapacitating them. Level 2: resurrected corpses fight for you permanently (until they are defeated) Level 3: Enemies hit with the secondary ability are pulled down into Davy Jones Locker and vanish. Abyss Walker: Last Tonic in the game, acquired after defeating the Leviathan. Replaces teleportation from Houdini Ingredients: Sea Serpent Heart (The Leviathan) Upon activation, Instantly enter into Davy Jones Locker, which makes you invisible to the enemy while you’re there, exit that dimension to appear in a different place, effectively teleporting. Useful to disappear and appear behind the enemy, or to avoid fights altogether. Useful for certain puzzles and environmental navigation as well. (Primary ability is to enter the otherworld dimension, secondary ability causes you to exit and come back to the real world) No upgraded levels to this tonic. So there it is, I’ve included many examples of concept art I’ve found online that I think match the vibe of what I’m imagining.

His Electro Bolt, Drill Dash and Winter Blast attacks are easy enough to dodge, but Incinerate is basically impossible to move away from in my experience. Any suggestions? \------ BHVR! The 20th Anniversary is in 2027 and 2K/Rod Fergusson are actively looking for, exact wording, "franchise extensions", probably for BioShock 4 and the Netflix movie cross promo, hint hint!!! This idea involves combining the capabilities of ADAM and Tears to create a multitude of unique scenarios for the new story. This is still a nugget of an idea so forgive me if this all seems like stream of consciousness. The premise is that upon Elizabeth's death at the end of BAS (1959), she somehow triggers several Tears to sporadically appear all across Earth for the next several decades. These Tears act as doorways to a strange world, one in which ADAM is a common fixture in the global ecological order. Organisms have adapted their own uses for ADAM, many of which manifest in similar fashion to Plasmid abilities. And it's not just lions, tigers, and bears. Plants and micro-organisms have also gone down this evolutionary path. The biosphere is almost completely unrecognizable to our own. But back in our world, these Tears continue to appear at random places across the world for decades. Each time they do, they leak more and more of these foreign entities into our own world before vanishing. Over time, the compounding effect of these Tears and the ADAM entities that emanate from them begin to also alter our own ecological order. And this doesn't go unnoticed. Strange stories of unexplained encounters spring up all over the world, many of them being chalked up to tabloid news and conspiracy theories. Giant sea serpents. Fire breathing monsters. 100 foot trees springing up in the middle of the road. Pets acting strangely before attacking their owners. Etc. However, intelligence agencies of various nations grow concerned of this new threat as the evidence for these encounters mount up over the years. The looming Cold War adds an air of paranoia to the mix, each bloc believing the other to be the culprit behind these unexplained phenomena. Then it happens: through intense investigation, the US CIA uncovers the location of Rapture in 1971. An extensive excavation of various artifacts is undertaken and researchers begin reverse engineering the secrets behind ADAM. This catches the attention of the USSR and in 1974 a tense military standoff grips the world. And before anybody knew what was going on, the world changed in a rapid series of events. The global climate dramatically shifts, leading to a worldwide rain storm that pours down for weeks, then months, in a fashion not seen since the Carnian Pluvial Event over 232 million years ago. Society grinds to a halt. Infrastructure fails. Famine sets in. Civilization seizes to function. But just as mysteriously as the end of the world's arrival, the government is strangely prepared. Massive oil rig like structures towering over the ocean act as a bastion of hope for humanity's remaining survivors. For the next few decades leading into this alternate late-20th century world, humanity learns to adapt to this new reality. By 1999, through a combination of social engineering and some ominous time dilation trickery, the population is pacified, and the old world is quickly becoming a forgotten memory. From here, the story needs more work. I have an older [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Bioshock/comments/1c2x8u9/bioshock_deluge_worldbuild_1979_vibe/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) with some other details, but this is basically the gist. Let me know if this is the sort thing you'd like to see in Bioshock 4 or if you have some other ideas in mind. From here I really want to develop a better sense of the character dynamics and cityscape.
