Maybe try Anytype instead of Notion. I usually prefer Notion because i work and manage projects myself but Anytype is also based in Swiss and its E2EE. Also it’s visually more pleasing than Notion.
I don’t now much yet about Anytype because i found it recently so I don’t know if there is a usable drive hub. Anytypes architect is basically like Notion with some differences. For sure you have to „learn“ how to curate pages and stuff.
Also you can host Anytype yourself or even local. There is a free version. But i think Anytype is a much better alternative to Notion especially when you wanna wo for hybrid. I will soon switch fully to Anytype

I just Set it up on a fresh Ubuntu Server it works flawless. Even updated the current productive Anytype Container no problems. Not sure what errors ur getting but it works from anytype Github.
In the Github is a FAQ for backups, but u are using something else and I hope it works for u too. (it should)
Redundancy is not really needed ecxept u wanna access and sync outside of ur home network with really important data.
Each Anytype instance can work offline Windows Mac Linux.

I recently discovered UpNote thanks to this sub. I fell in love rather quickly. It sits between Apple Notes and Notion if you use it strickly for note-taking (no task management, databases, etc.)
Has a lifetime license (so rare this days).
I'm not affiliated in any way. I just recently decided it was the perfect thing for me. It took me long to find it since folks mostly mention Obsidian, Notion, Affine, Capabilities, Anytype... I tried them all. None felt as solid, capable and calming as UpNote.

I've had this problem from the start but never checked if someone else has raised it. To me mortal eyes it seems that Anytype's callout doesnt act like a pure container block like in Notion but still like a text block, like it must still have its own text in its default style as the first line, and then you can put whatever underneath. Inline stlying works, but any other styled blocks cannot be placed at the first line because that will just change the style of the callout block itself - the first line is the callout block.
This works like the toggle block i feel :) before anytype did not have toggle headings, so the toggle you're showing is the only option and it's the same: the "title"/first line of the toggle is the toggle block itself cannot be formatted much except using some inline formatting, but then any blocks can be placed inside the toggle. I'm glad they've added toggle headings since, but idk what is their view/approach of Anyteam on the callout situation. I dont think it's logical to treat it as anything other than a container but then that's just me .

Hello everyone,
I have been using AnyType on all of my devices, including Windows, MAc and Android. But on my linux machine (running Fedora 44) AnyType fails to load if I use the self hosted server.
The local setup works fine.
Has anyone faced a similar issue?

Ive heard the horror stories with agentic ai and i was very cautious when using it. it actually tried to delete the whole folder i was working in at one point lol. I ended up getting the server to run using the anysync bundle. it was a bit tricky but i got there. i think the official docker compose published by anytype was actually just broken so for a first self host it was too much for me to figure out. I plan to have good backups and redundancy so i hope i dont have any problems with losing data

Something I've noticed in searching channels, both on Mac OS X and Windows 10, is that the search, at least the first time, collapses to just the first letter. Only after you go back to fix it does it search the entire time. Not sure if I'm hitting enter too fast or what.

I worked with Claude for a biit and now when I say "make me an AnyType TV Show object for \[x\] show" it queries the TMDb site via MCP, and Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB via a web fetch, and produces object like this. Feedback, improvements?

Obsidian and Anytype are both strong local-first apps that keep your data on your device without cloud lock-in. Obsidian works with plain Markdown files so everything stays portable and easy to edit anywhere. It shines with its graph view for spotting connections, massive plugin ecosystem for tasks like journaling or task management, and full customizability. Anytype uses a block-based system more like Notion but fully offline, focusing on objects, relations, and built-in databases for structured work. It feels more visual and ready out of the box for wikis or projects.
Choose Obsidian if you want maximum flexibility and Markdown simplicity. Pick Anytype if you prefer a polished interface with relations and less tinkering. Both handle personal knowledge bases well, so test them with your existing notes to see which clicks.

Anytype. The lack of whiteboard bothers me but everything else is above notion or notesnook. Its fully fosss with e2ee, p2p sync and collab.
start applying that's really it. and transform your resume so it's not so cashier styled. anything that's not retail only like. If you did anytype of paper work for a manager or something make sure it's worded and worded in a way that looks like that's a transferable skill in an office. (editing prices on shelevs) could turn into something saying you ensured data accuracy of products (say you retrieved them from the computer or something and then put them on display) highlight the things that are transferable.

I don't know if there's request like mine but what I want to request is for Collection works like collection.
Let me elaborate more, in anytype mobile I notice when I create collection inside a collection the parent collection behaviour is change especially the new button when clicked only creating new collection and drop down menu beside new button can't be clicked.
This is problematic because I use PARA system where inside a container (in this case is collection) can exist more than one data type.
I understand that I can manually link each data but it create friction when I could directly do it inside collection.
I don't know if this also happen in desktop app but currently on mobile this issue exist.

Logseq is a foss alternative that can pretty much do what obsidian does. Notesnook provide fully encrypted notes in the cloud, its Pakistani based company though. Or you can try anytype which is more like notion which has fully encrypted local, cloud and self hosted solutions.
U are depending on a third party repo. If big changes are happening on anytype changes specific components and the repo is not maintained u will have problems in the future.
Tbh if u cant make it run then u should learn and troubleshoot manually.. (imagen u have collected and created months of notes and AI deletes ur instance. It can happen trust me)
U shouldnt deploy anything if u dont know what the container is doing or depends on AI to solved anything. It's like driving when u have Automatic license and try to drive Manual.
Alright enough yapping from my side.
The Github has all the information u need to make anytype Server run. If u dont give us the Host server OS, Docker Version and the important Information nobody can help u.

at this time this isn't a real alternative because its not open source, I read your blog post, and all seems promising, it doesn't immediately yell AI slop, but not being open source is a huge pass for me, and I personally feel should be for many folks, and source available also isn't good enough, that's the same license something like AnyType uses, sure you can "see" the code, but if you can't do what you wish, that's not good enough
if you do go open source, I would be more than happy personally to try out your platform, competition is good, especially in a space where we don't have a lot of options that are actually good(for open source thats even got any kind of ground we only have Fluxer(great so far! pesonally my vote), and Stoat(formerly revolt), which has had to many issues for how long its existed, and is leagues behind where it should be even on basic features

There is anytype community website if you are interested.
But I am pretty sure this far anytype has either toggle or highlight. They are working on the core data structure so I'd except the UI updates to be later on
I’m comparing the platform with other solutions and some of them have widgets for iOS. This is an important feature for me and I’d choose one option or the other depending on this, is it in the pipeline for the future?
my honest take after watching this exact thread cycle for years: the tool isn't the bottleneck. people churn through notion, obsidian, capacities, anytype, craft because none of them solve the real problem, which is that the work itself is spread across gmail, slack, drive, calendar, your repo, your CRM, and the notes app is just one more silo on top of that. switching from notion to obsidian gives you a nicer place to write, it does not give you a place where the answer to 'what actually happened this week' lives. that's why every alternative thread on this sub reads the same - everyone shifts tools, nothing fundamentally changes. the folks i see actually happy stopped optimizing the note app and started cutting down how many places their work lives in the first place.

Hello, I'm testing this as an alternative to Notion
Left side is Notion, right side is Anytype
The problem is that I cannot have the Toggle list on the first line without it destroying the callout
IDK how active the reddit is, lmk if there is a better place to get a reply
I have a couple extra computers and 4 1tb drives (3 HDD, 1 SSD). My plan is to use one computer as a main server and the other as an offsite backup server. I intend to use the main server for self hosting anytype notes and nextcloud data and a media server when i get drive space. i also want to dabble in web server stuff. Ive heard about truenas and it seems really good for most of what i want to do. while i wasnt planning on using vms, and was just going to use docker, it seems like starting with vms might be the better option. In that case im thinking Ubuntu Server might be best for the main server and truenas on the backup server. i plan to put both servers in a raid 1 configuration. Theres a lot that i dont know when it comes to this stuff, so i could use some advice or information i might not be aware of. Thanks!

The best Notion alternatives depend on your use case and whether you need AI features or not. Here is a breakdown of the top four options for 2026, including an honest look at the pros and cons for each.
Founder disclosure up front: I run Recall, so obvious grain of salt on the first recommendation. I have tested all of these extensively and use several of them daily alongside our own product.
**1. Recall: Best if you want an AI knowledge base replacement for Notion**
* **Pricing:** Free as just a note taker; Plus with AI features is $10 per month.
* **Pros:** Built specifically for capturing and organizing web content, YouTube videos, and PDFs with AI summaries and auto-tagging. It includes a Notion-style block editor for structured writing and a knowledge-graph view to see how your notes connect. I see you are looking for organization, and Recall does automatically organize your content, so perhaps you will find that valuable.
* **Cons:** It is a knowledge hub rather than a project management tool, so it lacks Notion's complex database relations and task-tracking systems.
**2. Obsidian: Best if you want an local first note taker and are comfortable with Markdown**
* **Pricing:** Free for personal use; Sync is $4 per month and Publish is $8 per month.
* **Pros:** A privacy-first, local-first tool where you own your files in plain Markdown. It has a massive ecosystem of over 1,400 community plugins that let you customize almost every aspect of the experience. What's cool here is you can really make Obsidan your own, given all of the plugins.
* **Cons:** It has a steep learning curve and requires significant setup time. There is no native real-time collaboration, and syncing across devices is a paid add-on.
**3. Anytype: Best for the same notion style editor that is also local first**
* **Pricing:** Free tier available; paid plans are $10.99 per user per month.
* **Pros:** This is the closest experience to a self-hosted Notion. It is end-to-end encrypted and local-first, using an object-based system similar to Notion's blocks while working fully across all platforms.
* **Cons:** The ecosystem is still maturing compared to Notion or Obsidian, and the unique object model can be confusing for new users to learn.
**4. Craft: Best for long for writing and AI fearures**
* **Pricing:** Free plan available; Pro is approximately $5 per month when billed annually.
* **Pros:** A high-performance, beautiful native app for macOS and iOS. It is arguably the best tool for long-form writing and creating polished, shareable documents that look professional.
* **Cons:** It is heavily optimized for the Apple ecosystem, meaning support for Windows, Linux, and Android is much weaker. It is less capable than Notion for building complex wikis or databases.
TL;DR: If you want privacy and total ownership, go with Obsidian or Anytype. If you want the best writing experience on a Mac, go with Craft. If you primarily used Notion to save research, articles, and links but still want a block editor, try Recall.

Actually we cannot compare your company with anyType company, the audience targets might not be the same. For me, as long as "Tab" is in their roadmap, we should be glad. Let's not push them. Cos pushing them will result in hasty (thus bad) result
[AnyType](http://anytype.io).
u welcome! its really painful to get such bugs while Anytype gets features that are not as important then stability..
There are so many alternatives. The best open source option is probably obsidian. There are other options trying to replicate what notion does, e.g. anytype. I personally have developed my own, https://solyto.app.
However, what suits you best is highly reliant on your preferences, so there is not one right replacement

I'm trying to migrate from Notion to Obsidian - It isn't a simple thing.
I like Obsidian in that it is local-first and can act as a brain for your own AI. I dont like how it doesn't even come close to the simplicity of Notion without a ton of tinkering and workflow switching.
AnyType is what I wanted to use, but the export and proprietary data formatting killed it.
Capacities looks great, but it's offline mode is more like just caching. Never heard of TickTick.
Affinity and AppFlowy look like the best alternatives that prioritize offline mode but neither seem mature enough.

So im kinda new to this stuff. so far ive cloned the repo and made the docker container with the up command and the aio yml file. using the generated client-config.yml in the anytype setup interface, i was able to actually get into anytype. it seems like the server isnt actually working though. i have to use tailscale because i cant get a static ip. i changed out the external address in the bundle-config.yml with the tailscale ip of my server pc like it said in the readme of the any-sync-bundle. im thinking maybe the 33010 and 33020 ports are not allowed, but i dont know which app they need to be allowed for. tailscale has permissions for any port i think. and so does anytypehelper.exe. not really sure what to do from here. can you help me with this or recommend where to go to get help?

Mainly Anytype
Came across this post when I was searching answer for the same question...I think most people suggest using alternatives that gives user more privacy. I tried Anytype but still prefer how things in Notion works (how the database looks, linking, etc) so I made this Chrome extension to solve my own problem. It converts your text to encrypted text. Give it a try if you need 😃 [https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/notion-encrypt/dgncdfegimajlnphmkgojehafompnpac](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/notion-encrypt/dgncdfegimajlnphmkgojehafompnpac)

Hey all. I've just started building in Onetype and learning about PKMs in general.
As I'm building out my system, I had a question to verify with people on the appropriate way I should be building this.
I've struggled with creating 1 to many relations directly between objects. For example, I have an idea that will have notes, pages, and other items that should be related to a primary idea page. What I was trying to do before was to create a "homepage" for this idea, then find ways to create buttons that will start a note with the appropriate link back to the note. However, doing this directly is a problem as the new note doesn't take into account the location to which it was created and doesn't create a link in this way.
What I think I need to do is create a collection for every main idea I have first, then create all assets of various types within that collection. That way, I can use the inline collections block to create/list any asset for this idea and have it be appropriately linked automatically. My problem with this is the link back will be to the collection and not the idea "homepage". I would need to create a link from the idea collection to the idea "homepage"
Is there a better/simpler way to create/view a one-to-many relationship or parent-child relationship where you can directly create objects from the parent to the child?

I use a mix of LogSeq/Markdown with a custom Pandoc exporter and Curio.
Curio is mainly used for exploratory work as an electronic "whiteboard" and Markdown for generating documents. Curio can import markdown fragments, so I can link things together nicely.
I use a custom pandoc exporting script because I haven't been able to get what I want (rich document template) from any of the Logseq plug-ins. The exporter looks for specific custom attributes in the markdown to identify documents and ordering.
This isn't really "turnkey", but the knowledge management part is very important to me, so I accept some friction because Logseq is very good in this area. I'm also finding that this combination works very well with LLM + RAG for surfacing unexpected connections.
Should also add that I have tried most of the Markdown PKM tools. I find Obsidian, configured as I want, becomes unstable (by default it is very stable, but plug-ins often interfere with one another); Anytype is very promising and easiest to use, but quite buggy. Logseq is reliable and fully-featured out of the box, but queries and some other features are quite poorly documented.

Anytype. Like Notion but E2EE, code is public, 3rd party audit, self-hostable, will be decentralized, and everything is local first on your device (you can even choose it to be local only, like Obsidian, if you want). Everything is built into the app
It only encrypts on the cloud/server, local storage is unencrypted and it just encrypts when downloading or uploading. But yeah local storage is not encrypted and that's what made me transfer my notes and such from Joplin into Anytype.
Former Employee here.
This is a case of ongoing harassment that in my honest opinion has not been handled by the staff.
At my work location we would not tolerate anytype of harassment/bullying. We would warn the party once the complaint happened and then monitored, and if it continued you would be asked to leave the club for the day, and if it continued you would get your membership cancelled and banned from the club. However if it was severe enough you'd be cancelled/banned instantly.
In this case it has been addressed but the appropriate measures have not taken place from my perspective. The members account should have notes about him being warned about this(if they even documented it).
Did you speak to the shift manager or General Manager/Assistant GM? They would be your best bet and if you have, then I'd contact corporate since they dont want to officially end it even though its their job to. Regardless of language barrier or not, it's not acceptable.

I’m using Anytype since 3 years now and really happy with it. Fast, secure, many ways to setup you spaces, syncs very well, can export MD in case of whatever and MCP ready for AI connection.
It has a huge flaw, local storage in Joplin is unencrypted, so any one who gets into your phone can easily read your all Joplin archive.
I use Anytype after I stoped using Joplin, it checks most of the security features I want in a notes app after all I wrote a lot of private stuff into my notes app.
Have you tried anytype? imo this is the most similar to notion
I recently made the transition to Anytype for a similar reason, and recommend it.
How's export out of Proton Docs? That was the biggest sore point with Anytype.
Given that multiplayer is on the Obsidian roadmap, I have hope to eventually migrate (2027?). I forgot to mention earlier that a clean, usable export is an essential consideration for me.
For personal use, Obsidian is close to perfect for me. The thing is, I'm about to get involved in a new project with a team of six people, so the lack of multiplayer makes it a no-go.
If I don't say otherwise, the other team members will most likely want to use Google Docs and Sheets for most of the work, but I'd rather avoid SaaS tools because of privacy, safety, and future-proofing concerns. Notion might be better suited functionally than Google Workspace, but it has the same problem.
The only other option I can think of is Anytype, but I've been burned by it once before, so I'm not eager to try it again.
Does anybody here know of anything else that has emerged that I might have missed?

I am currently trying **Capacities** as my new prep tool.
So far it feels perfect for my needs as it features baked in categories such as people, locations, organizations... Which means I don't have to spend time making my own templates like I did with Anytype and Notion (I'm aware of the Lazy DM's template for Notion but as it was specifically designed for D&D I still had a lot of tweaking to do...). Also, like Anytype, it comes with a mindmap mode.
Oh and it's free with syncing across devices.

I tried this and much more alternatives to Notion. The thing is, even on self hosting, you have limitations usage, for example, the size of uploaded files.
If you want to self host Notion, maybe try anytype. It fitted better for me, clean interface, encrypted vault and integration with mobile app.
If you care about owning your data and working offline, look at **Anytype** or **Obsidian**. They are "local-first" (stored on your device), but they let you build a massive "Second Brain" where your recipes, notes, and journals all interlink.

VPN: Proton (Swiss)
Mail: Proton (Swiss)
Web browser: Waterfox (UK-based fork of Firefox with an emphasis on privacy and it has a bunch of European-based search Engines like Ecosia (German), Qwant (French), Mojeek (British) etc built into it too) and it also still allows for Firefox accounts if need be. It's also not taking the AI route Firefox is taking.)
Music: Spotify (Swedish) (Though I can't fully vouch for them since I do things the old fashioned way; mp3 player app with mp3/wav files)
Notes: Anytype (German) (Can be synced to PC too)
AI (If you're ok with it): Lechat (French), GB1 (British), Euria and Lumo (Swiss) (Personally I'd recommend Lechat, it's the most advanced of the four from what I've experienced)
EDIT: pCloud supposedly gives you 20gb of storage for free, which might be a good thing to look into compared to Proton's cloud storage which costs)

Imo, anytype is a bit complicated for simple noting 🤷♂️ (probably could be a replacement to notion). i’d suggest notesnook or simplenotes. Also some peeps say joplin is anothe good one
The only plugin I use is oh-my-openagent
Only global mcp is codemem (not counting OmO defaults, context7, grep_app, web_search [Exa free rate]) which is aforementioned SQLite flat search db + UI for observing and interacting.
MCP as skills for Deepwiki, and Anytype for my personal notes which I keep separate from agent memory. Anytype actually provides a copy paste mcp config + dedicated api key for security = OPcode can add, edit, or read. A lot of times I’ll work through my own plan outline, dictate all the steps I would take, and then when I’m ready to work on it I have OP retrieve it, review it, and if all is good then execute. (And another set of skills for specific nix tooling)
Like I said if I’m pair programming from the ground up for whatever reason, I flesh out what the rough approach is. Like if I don’t know how to build an app I would ask a vague-ish question like “how would I build a text editor with basic file open/save and incorporate a panel for agent assistance similar to vs code)” > agent gives me a rough method > what languages would I use > agent suggests, I consider do a little research, say “why not use React as opposed to the other languages” > react is heavier (40 kb vs like 7 kb) > “that’s not much of a demand lets use react. And also we should configure our agent panel to take a v1 endpoint format instead of just passing to opencode. What would a rough implementation look like?” > agent provides > I say upload this rough outline to codemem, include context that we’ll flesh out specifics with each task > agent uploads
/new
Retrieve the text editor project outline from codemem > agent retrieves > you can handle steps 1-5 alone but when you get to 6 record all progress to codemem and stop so that we can collaborate on the front end UI > agent does so > compact, start discussion about UI. If it gets deep compact again. Once a fleshed out and detailed approach is reached. Upload to codemem, compact, retrieve, repeat.
But this is just what works for me. I’m legacy GLM Pro for inference so I’ve got the context window and a model/agent harness that play well with each other. However, when glm was shitting the bed at 100k context this method is what kept me from losing my mind and became my daily process.
Or if I was feeling lazy, I’d just hit swap to minimax free through opencode.
Every tool is gonna get hyped, and the “coolest” ones get hyped the most but the truth is that most users don’t need everything that AI *can* do, and half the work is setting up for the right use case and environment.

Immich for photos.
Anytype for notes. 🙌🏻
Ultimately, I opted for Anytype. I tried out various options, but I chose this one because: 1) its design was quite similar to Notion's; 2) it wasn't blocked and didn't require a VPN; 3) it synced quickly between my phone and computer; and 4) it was fast. It took me a while to get used to it, but I eventually got the hang of it. The only requirement mentioned in my post it doesn’t meet is having a browser version for computers, but that wasn’t the most critical issue. Besides, being able to work offline was an added bonus.
The problem now, however, is that the authorities are now starting to block everything in the country, including Anytype. Thankfully, I won’t lose access to my data as everything is stored locally, but synchronisation only works now if both devices are connected to a VPN. I don't want to switch to another app, but damn it's all so frustrating
In short, yeah. Anytype.

I’m a bit confused – the table looks different on my Mac Mini (M1) compared to my MacBook (Intel). I don’t use any custom CSS, and I even deleted the app and all its data and reinstalled it. I’m not happy with how it looks on the Mac Mini because the colors aren’t clearly distinguishable. Does anyone know why this might be happening or how to fix it?
never understood the yuta "pdf" thing when if you read 0 you'd know it just isnt true and comparing him to epstein was way past anytype of logical discussion
Obrigado!

Really sorry this happened — losing 4 years of work is
genuinely awful and I understand the frustration.
One thing worth trying before giving up: contact Notion
support directly at notion.so/contact and specifically
ask for a "workspace restore." They do have the ability
to restore deleted workspaces — it's not publicized well
but it has worked for people in exactly this situation.
Be specific: give them your account email, approximate
date when it disappeared, and any old email receipts
from Notion you have. The more detail you give, the
faster they can locate it.
On alternatives if it doesn't work out:
- **Obsidian** — fully local, your data lives on your
device, nothing can be wiped remotely. Steeper
learning curve but zero data loss risk.
- **Anytype** — similar to Notion but local-first with
optional sync. Good middle ground.
- **Craft** — cleaner writing focus, good for notes
and docs, iCloud backup built in.
For anyone reading this — the lesson is painful but
important: export your Notion workspace as HTML or
Markdown every few weeks. Settings → Export → Export
all workspace content. Takes 2 minutes, saves 4 years.
Hope you get it back. The support team is better than
their reputation suggests.

The option to hide this feature is still not available. If Anytype developers keep forcing new features on the community like this, they risk becoming exactly what they once criticized.
If you're not exploiting ANYTYPE and all of us goodness...well....?
Anytype will be good. It combines obsidian and notion

Short answer : no, I'm on Notion.
More interesting : this domain, knowledge management, task management (all-in-one) I monitor heavily. There are other solutions apart from these 2 :
\- OneNote -> doesn't work on my older Mac anymore + is less good than EN or Notion. Done with it.
\- Anytype : at my time of testing didn't have reminders and perhaps some others. Possible no long-term support as the team seems much smaller (they forked off Notion I think) and will not be able to compete with Notion normally. This is a crucial point, as is Lock-In and data safety : if something happens to my notes I will murder someone.
\- I don't really want to hear about the meriad of wannabee apps, I have needs (that's what she said). Except of course if there is something robust and good.
The thing is, I don't know where EN stands today (apparently similar to Notion), but Notion is really starting to piss me off. I'm a Product Owner, so I notice every little detail. It's slow. Many things are illogical. I fear for my data because their offline mode is not a true one and the only possible export is PDF (which is true for every note app since there is no standard).
I don't want to migrate again and again. I'm not sure what to do but I stick with the teams that have income - I'd love an open source solution but again nothing is perfect - well except maybe Latex, maybe that was always the solution lol.

The app is quite complete, but it would be nice if it had an app that works in landscape mode for Chromebooks and Android, and also for Linux (x64 and arm).

Anytype ??? It’s the best alternative to notion
This actually already exists [in the forum here](https://community.anytype.io/t/add-a-date-range-duration-period-relation/7568)! But it would be nice to bring some new life to an old post. This would be SO nice to have

To be able to have the type of visibility in notion's calendar view.
Thx ! I hope this is possible
The team can’t recover a lost paraphrase. In order to do that, they would need to have your passphrase, which defeats the purpose of a permissionless system with end to end encryption.
By not giving your keys to the vendor, you prevent their ability to access your content. At the same time, you prevent their ability to recover your account because they don’t know who truly owns it. As far as the system can tell, whoever has the passphrase is the owner. If you want a system that can tell who is who, you also have to give up some level of control to a central authority who grants you access.
Anytype is not this, the app is permissionless.

Idk, I've never lost my passphrase I just know people who have posted on here about it have mentioned the anytype team guiding them through steps to recover their data after losing theirs.
I'm not sure if it's the passphrase or the the data, I understood it as the passphrase but I could be wrong, like I said I haven't looked too much into it.

It’d be easier to list who can’t beat the Helldivers in a ground warfare. Helldivers lack any type of heavy armor and rely on mass amounts of troops to complete basic tasks. Helldivers can’t hold planets by themselves and have been shown to lack anytype of strategic depth, they are also unable to adapt to rapid changes from any of the factions that they have been fighting. Without massive amounts of Helldiver support, planets often fall within DAYS and SEALs have been shown that they are unable to understand how to defend themselves without billions of Helldivers dying. The Super Earth navy is the most useless of the bunch since they are unable to blockade planets or provide any type of support. The greatest weapon in the Helldivers arsenal is the super destroyer, however, it does not appear that the ship has any type of defense system and is only able to help a squad of Helldivers for a limited amount of time with a limited amount of resources.
Helldivers also have a super high amount of casualties which means that they likely have little to no veteran drivers or trained officers.
TLDR: The Helldivers suck and would struggle against any type of military.

I'm talking only about android app
app. Wish I can contribute in some way but I'm not sure how well they will accept ui/ux design changes through PRs.
Would be nice if i can be part of their team but i guess im not qualified enough maybe (graduated in cs last year). I dont know man, i really love this app but every update they keep messing some or the other ui/ux.
I will keep supporting this app but android team needs someone who cares about ui/ux.
They also keep neglecting kanban view, inline sets/collections, etc since years. Why even keep coming soon if takes years?
Anyway no hate , i have been using anytype and supporting since their beta era, i hope their Android app gets better.
If there's a way i can be part of their team, i am willing to apply and contribute, even as an intern or something without any pay.
All the best to the current team!

Unfortunately, the Anytype mobile app is being somewhat neglected or less prioritized. You can work with it, but it's missing a bunch of features from the desktop app.

So when I have a inline Query on my Objectpage it is shown as a table on my Mac direct on the page, but on iPad for example there is just a box with a link to this table which says inline query. I really wanted to love anytype and hope there is a solution for that, this is a dealbreaker for me if I can‘t see my information properply when I‘m out and about!
Why is on mobile device not the same view as on a Mac? The whole thing for anytype is to get my Information when I need them. So I can‘t understand why such a basic feature is not working on mobile devices.

I have Objective object types that have a Status property with values like "in Progress", "Failed", "Success" etc. My Project objects end up being mostly a series of Objective objects shown as cards and I'd like to see the status in the cards rather than having to click into them or otherwise manually annotate next to them to indicate the status. I notice that the Attributes that are visible are Name, Description, and Object Type, with Description being adjustable to None, Property Description, and Content Preview.
1. Is there anyway for me to show the status in the card preview.
2. What is Property Description supposed to do? Selecting it does not seem to do anything...

Some things I would like to see with collections:
The relationships between collections get some fleshing out. Having databases exist independently without being able to connect and display sets of data kind of defeats the purpose.
More ways to customize the collection object pages themselves. Show/hide properties, show properties in different formats etc. Even being able to drag and drop properties into the document inline would be really cool and let us create dynamic documents.
Collection data portability, currently if you export a doc with a collection as markdown it will just put it in a table, and on collection object pages, nothing at all. I would love to see the properties of a collection object exported in yaml, just has an extra layer of data portability and being able to backup documents in markdown. See how anytype, another block based editor, exports in markdown as an example.
Interested to see what's coming as always.

I've recently been testing out Anytype as a replacement for notion. And I really like it so far, its just that all images i upload display with a box around them, as shown in the box above.
Im on an Iphone 14 currently, and wondering if theres any way to change this, if its a bug, or if its something im able to fix
That’s not how it works. This is a permissionless system without central authority. Your seed phrase cannot be changed, your account cannot be changed, etc. because it is not an account that is generated by Anytype. They can’t control your account, which inversely means they can’t save you if it gets compromised.
Seed phrase should be kept safe (like in a password manager). If it gets compromised, export everything, create new account, import it into new account, and then delete your old account.

Anything manual is perfect especially if ur starting out.
AI is meant to take everyone's jobs , the least attained will be the manual workers.
Careers to avoid at all costs : anytype of engineering positions, lawyer, anything consulting, anything white collar, anything in finance.
These are waay dead already but they're going to slowly migrate in order to not damage the economy.
Best upcoming careers are going to be anything that has gun handling (police guards military private security etc..) , then anything medicine related (nursing doctors caretakers etc..),then manual labour (plumbing, electrical, solar, hvac, municipality, painting etc..).
In a nutshell, they didn't expect us to own the IT field , so they're going to delete us ( they think so..).
The true surprise we've prepared for them is coming in 2027.
Don't buy a gpu 😉😏..ur not going to need it next year.

And for those who want something else than Obsidian, but also free and open source, I would recommend Anytype. Still in alpha, but it has quickly replaced Obsidian for me. E2E encrypted with local syncing support.
Unfortunately, Anytype still doesn't offer a direct way to simply copy objects directly from one space to another. As you mentioned, a simple option would be to copy the contents of a page. This works well, as long as it's really just about the content itself, such as text, tables, etc. However, as soon as your object is using its own properties, for example, the process becomes more complex. The second method is therefore to export the object in question (possibly including linked objects and embedded files) and then import it back into the other space.

I just updated my client to the .55.1 update and i noticed with the UI changes i can no longer see if my client is syncing, i self host and that's kinda needed to make sure i know that its not acting wonky.
I was just kinda hoping they moved it again but i have yet to find it.

New user testing Anytype out. It seems the vault passphrase is all that is needed to share a vault between two devices. All profiles on both devices list the same username after only entering the vault passcode. I had expected to need to share a link between the devices or set a username.
This indicates anyone could access a random person's vault by randomly guessing the password. What am I missing?
Anytype for Android version 0.46.11, Build 4611.
Steps to reproduce:
Install Anytype and start it.
On phone 1, create a new vault and record the key phrase.
On phone 2, use the key phrase for vault from phone 1 to open vault.
Result:
Any text added to vault on one phone is automatically on the other.
I tried this with a guess profile on one of the phones with he same result.

- because that's the only system I know that truly lets you work with **structured/typed notes** and organize them as collections in a scalable manner. Anytype/Tana/Capacities/Notion/Logseq… do that to an extent, but they either offload this capability to a side-storage (databases) that interacts poorly with the primary one, or they happily let you build inconsistent collections (same type of notes end-up carrying inconsistent properties, which defeats the purpose). Trilium, with templates and inheritance has sounder foundations.
- because that's the only system I know that you can deploy as **local-first, remote-first, or mixed**: having trilium as a web app is a must when using a device that's not yours, having it installed locally is essential on the go (e.g. no/spotty internet), and that you can have it both ways (with the local client syncing with the same web app) is just phenomenal.

Hi, I very recently started using Anytype and there is a loooot of things I like. Documentation is not one of them, so I will try my luck here.
We are collaborating on document and would like to do "comments" on specific sections ideally. Is that something that is possible?
Somehow we managed to turn on comments chat bubble on pages (in iOS app), but that is for full page and I can not find anywhere how to turn it on / open on windows version of Anytype. (Or generally any mention of it) Any hints?

Obsidian is definitely solid but more complicated than Notion is super slow on mobile; be careful it is not intuitive since it is saving everything in local Markdown files, you might think it will be super fast. Don't know why. Other apps you might want to consider Routine, Anytype, Capacities.
So I just updated anytype and looks like it reset the object types to 'default', the basic system ones, it didn't do anything to my custom object types.
For example I had changed the name od the 'task' type to translate it to catalan and it went back to english, and had also translated the status options and it added again the same options in english (ended up with 6 options, 3 in english and 3 in catalan: 2 to-do, 2 in progress, 2 done).
Also, I had selected the option to see the properties in a list, and it reset to line. And it also reset the properties visible in the header to the default and not the ones I had selected, for example I had de-selected 'tags' and it came back.
I don't know if this is stantdard behaviour for all updates, just this one for some reason or I just did something to revert my changes. But if I have to re-do everything every update means I have to look for an alternative.

Hi
I would like to use any type for my personal stuff. Sometime I have notes that I would like to share to my family, but not all my notes.
Is it possible to share only certain pages ? I saw collaboration option but it share the entire space.
Thanks

Do you mean a block shared among different pages?
The closest thing you can obtain now is to write your shared text in a note (not a page, a note) and link your pages to that specific note: your pages will show the note content.
The withdraw is that Anytype doesn't retain the format, but only the text so, if your note contains a list, like:
- one
- two
- three
The shared blocks will look like "one two three"
I hope they'll fix this to create a real block embedding like Logseq

Hello! Silly question but has anyone came to a solution of how to zoom in images? Like a custom css or something like that? It's really annoying to attach an image and you can't zoom into it.
Additionally, expandable "more detail" sections INSIDE a block would be nice. Imagine clicking on a "(...)" inside a block with text and it expands the brackets and you can see the additional details
Why would you use Obsidian if you want to keep things simple? If you like the simplicity of Apple Notes, stay away from Obsidian. The mobile app takes 5 minutes to launch. Notion is not great but way easier. There are other alternatives you can consider that are more in line with GTD: Routine, Capacities, Anytype?

seu idioma não funciona no anytype? ele está em inglês? Português também está em inglês pra mim
Death note
Blue Scarab
Devil fruit-shadow shadow fruit
Nzt-48
There are absolutely many combinations I can make with this for omniversal travel and make a multiversal faction
For 1 combo with shadow shadow fruit and nzt48 In dimensional scaling, a shadow is just a 2D projection of a 3D object. By extension, a 3D universe is just a "shadow" of a 4D construct. With your hyper-elevated cognition, I don't just control literal shadows; I manipulate lower-dimensional projections. I can perceive the "shadow" cast by a neighboring universe, grab it using the fruit's conceptual power, and swap places with it, pulling myself into the omniverse
For 2 combo with blue scarab and Nzt-48
I can use the enhanced intellect to instruct the Scarab's AI to perfectly interface with my body's cellular ATP production and nervous system. I essentially turn my own biological metabolic processes into a highly efficient, limitless micro-reactor. The armor feeds on my perfectly optimized bio-energy, and in return, the armor sustains my body, creating a flawless perpetual motion machine.
And there are many ways to over come my body limits by building anytype of super serums and space marine kinda stuff
For combo 3 with blue scarab and death note and Nzt-48 I can go aizen on the world to become a trillionare and ruler of the country and eventually world
These are few combo I can name buddy

I keep a notepad, email things to myself, or write it down in a physical journal and then transfer it later. I guess the way I see it is that any interface is going to have some kind of limitation, and there will always be a reason that you aren't nearby the internet to put your ideas down. I don't know about you, but sometimes my phone isn't nearby but also neither is a computer, so a web interface will not help that. That's where the pocket notebook comes in.
I think if you exclusively only want to put things directly into your PKMS system without having any flexibility outside of that, then anytype is probably not the answer for you. but instead let me ask you: what would you do if you weren't near a computer either? and is that too complicated, would you rather just lose that idea or thought rather than find a solution to transfer it later?

I am interested in using a PKM/notes application. Anytype seems great, my primary question is how do you go about adding or reviewing notes when you are away from your computer? If there is no web interface how do you go about adding things on the move? I'm not always able to have my phone with me at work, and my work laptop doesn't allow me to install applications on it but I have internet access.
Are there known workarounds or do people just dump everything at the end of the day? Or for my use case would a web enabled system like capacities be a better fit?

After the new update, how can I remove this button? I use Anytype on my own and will never use it with a team. I don’t want a feature that I will never use showing up on my screen while I’m taking notes. Also, the button stays visible when the screen is still, but disappears when I scroll up. Having something constantly changing on my screen like that is really annoying. I downloaded Anytype for its simplicity.

I love anytype and love it much more than obsidian the only downside is right now it’s still a bit new so lacks a lot of plugins
yesss exactly i am still trying to figure things out :/
but i do definitely have tasks and have shaped the role up a lot more than my first one. tasks like email management, sending invoices, sending forms out, waitlist management, scheduling appts, updating things, outreach, organising my task management app called anytype (but that didnt go so well)
Notion is not so bad. If you want something simpler at first, yet more powerful than Notion, you could consider Routine, Capacities or Anytype.
Does Anytype play well with Intune for mobile access to notes?
Thats a [feature request since 2020](https://community.anytype.io/t/landscape-mode/1102). At least there are some workarounds for specific tablet models and special apps to force Anytype into landscape.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ that I use for various things. I love Anytype (recently decided to give it another try) but a turn off for me is that the app doesn't rotate so that I can use my keyboard case while using the app. It was a reason I switched to Capacities, but I really don't care for the way that Capacities is laid out and how everything has be connected to something g else to find it. Plus, alAnytype has a better task management function that you don't have to pay to use.
Is there a way around the screen rotation on tablets or does anyone know if Anytype is considering making an update to the Android app that will support rotation? I had emailed them several years ago and never got a response about it. And I see that the screen is still locked in the vertical. \*shrugs\*

Obsidian is considered mature and with plugins it provides optional features without giving bloat to everyone.
The other option I've heard of is anytype. Believe that's offline. I've not used either.
I like the feel of notion however. Biggest advantage any of these systems though is that someone will ask me about something I build or designed 2 years ago. And I'll never remember the context or even doing it 😂

Anytype or obsidian, like everyone else says lol
Both have images and page linking
Visuals aside it kinda comes down to if you want a more document-styled layout with floating or linked pages, or if you want a more blocky/website layout and rely more on databases
Obsidian is a lot more flexible and (without plugins and customization) a lot more simple function-wise, but requires more of the aforementioned customizing and is more visually formatted like a document-style workspace imo. Page linking goes document to document by parenthesized keywords or by being in the same database
Anytype is the closest to Notion in visual format and function. Works in similar blocks and widgets instead of flat text, and has the same website/template style of visuals. Iirc, Anytype's page linking is tied to a database it's made in and can connect to others, don't recall if it's by the same means as Obsidian or if it's more like Notion's embeds

I think this mostly comes down to what you are optimizing for first: data control or Notion-like ergonomics. If privacy/data safety is the primary driver, Obsidian is the more obvious direction. If you want something that feels closer to Notion structurally and visually, Anytype is the more natural bridge. The harder part is usually not features, but which compromise irritates you less over time.
I went through this exact “I just want one clean place for stuff” phase and what I ended up learning is the use case has to be hyper specific or I forget the tool exists in a week.
What worked for me was picking one narrow job: “this is only for long-term reference stuff I don’t want in my notes app” or “this is where I keep all client assets per project.” If it tries to be general “organize everything,” my brain defaults back to Notion/Apple Notes/Drive.
I’d add small opinionated constraints instead of more features: fixed layouts for a few workflows (reading list, project hub, client folder), super fast capture (hotkey, browser extension, or email-in), and a dead-simple way to resurface old items (daily/weekly digest of 5 random things).
For discovery, I found folks actually stick around when I tie tools into existing habits: I bounced between Notion and Anytype for private stuff, and ended up on Obsidian for notes and Pulse for Reddit to catch niche threads I care about, because they slotted into flows I already had instead of asking me to remember “one more app.

if privacy is the main concern, Obsidian is the safest option. if you want something visually closer to Notion, Anytype is probably the closest, just expect some rough edges
I can only speak for myself, but I have been using anytype for a year now and have never experienced any data loss. During this year, I have updated the software several times. Important: I do not store important or sensitive data in anytype - I use it as a google-tasks alternative and this usecase is mainly text-based.
I've been running a single Lenovo ThinkCentre M920 with Proxmox hosting Home Assistant and FreshRSS for a while and loved it. But I was running scripts without documenting anything, had no idea what ports were open, and everything was held together with vibes. Now I want to expand to \~25 services and actually do it right.
I've spent a lot of time planning this out and I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I'm heading in the right direction or just overthinking it. I'm still a newbie — I'll be learning Ansible, Docker-in-LXC, and a lot of this as I go. So I'd really appreciate a sanity check from people who've done this before. Am I on the right track or am I overengineering this for my scale?
**Goals:**
* Reliable and stable — minimal maintenance once deployed
* Secure — Tailscale as the only external entry point, no open ports
* Documented and reproducible — all Docker Compose files in Gitea, infrastructure managed with Ansible
* Proper backup strategy with local + offsite
**Hardware:**
|Node|Role|CPU|RAM|Storage|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|HP EliteDesk 800 G6|Heavy compute|i5-10500T|32GB|2x 1TB Samsung 980 NVMe + 500GB Crucial MX500 SATA|
|Lenovo M920 Tiny|Core infrastructure|i5-8600T|32GB|2TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus NVMe + 1TB Samsung 870 EVO SATA|
|Lenovo M710q Tiny|Backup server|6th gen i5|16GB|500GB SATA (planned)|
The G6 has dual NICs — planning to use NIC 2 as a dedicated backup VLAN to the M710q so backup traffic doesn't compete with Jellyfin streaming.
**Architecture:**
All three nodes run Proxmox. Services run in Docker Compose inside LXC containers. All compose files stored in Gitea as the single source of truth. Planning to learn Ansible and write playbooks to rebuild any node from scratch.
**Service distribution:**
**M920 — Core infrastructure (lightweight, always-on)**
* Network/security: AdGuard Home, Nginx Proxy Manager, Tailscale
* Second brain: FreshRSS, RSS-Bridge, FiveFilters Full-Text RSS, Anytype Sync Server, Karakeep, Linkwarden
* Finance: Actual Budget
* Dashboard: Homepage, Uptime Kuma, Rackula
* Dev/AI: Gitea (+ GitHub pull mirror), MCP Servers
**G6 — Heavy compute (CPU-intensive workloads)**
* Media: Jellyfin (hardware transcoding via Quick Sync), Audiobookshelf, Kavita, Copyparty, iSponsorBlockTV
* Document processing: Paperless-ngx + Apache Tika + Gotenberg
* Automation: n8n
**M710q — Backup (single purpose)**
* Proxmox Backup Server
**Drive assignments:**
*G6:* NVMe 1 → Proxmox OS + Docker LXC | NVMe 2 → media libraries, Paperless docs | SATA 500GB → logs, OCR scratch/temp
*M920:* NVMe 2TB → Proxmox OS + all service data | SATA 1TB → local nightly rsync of the NVMe
*M710q:* SATA 500GB → PBS datastore (deduplicated snapshots)
**Backup strategy:**
1. PBS on M710q — hourly snapshots from both main nodes
2. Local redundancy — M920 SATA gets nightly rsync of the NVMe
3. Config versioning — all compose files + configs in Gitea
4. Offsite — Restic encrypted backups to Backblaze B2 (\~$1-5/mo)
Pruning policy: keep last 3 daily, 2 weekly, 1 monthly.
**n8n automation pipelines:**
* Knowledge pipeline: Star article in Reeder → n8n extracts full text → formats to Markdown → pushes to Anytype
* YouTube-to-Podcast: Monitor YT RSS → strip audio to MP3 → generate podcast RSS for Pocket Casts
* Morning Paper: 6:55 AM cron → scrape "High Priority" RSS folder → format HTML email → send to inbox
* Full-text injection: Auto-inject full article bodies into FreshRSS via FiveFilters
**Golden rules I'm trying to follow:**
1. Mind mapping required — network/n8n changes mapped in Anytype Canvas first
2. Load distribution — never put heavy apps on the M710q
**Where I'd love a sanity check:**
* Am I overengineering this for 3 mini PCs and \~25 services? Should I simplify?
* Is the service-to-node distribution sensible? Anything that should move?
* Docker-in-LXC vs Docker-in-VM — am I going to regret LXC for any of these services?
* Is 500GB enough for PBS with two nodes and that pruning policy?
* Any glaring gaps in the backup strategy?
* For those running Ansible with a similar setup — is it worth learning at this scale or overkill?
* Is there anything here that screams "you're going to hate maintaining this in 6 months"?
I know I've been spending a lot of time in the planning phase and probably need to just start deploying. But figured it's worth getting a gut check before I commit. Appreciate any input.

I am constantly trying out new apps for my personal and work knowledge bases. I’ve tried it all.
Capacities is absolutely Top Tier. The Daily Entry is just packed with possibility and most won’t even realize it. The fact that Capacities doesn’t hide anything is a curve ball to many users.
Just start. You’ll learn along the way. Nothing you’ve done will need retooling. I was still considering it a “sometimes” app when I saw my daily notes count had passed 6 months.
Also, super easy PDF export.
If you like doing something one way, you can. If you’d prefer another way, you can do that too.
My only complaint right now is that you can’t create templates from mobile.
*Yeah. That’s my only complaint.*
I’ve been a freelance and contract worker in publishing for 20+ years, so I’m a power user, and if anything is really slowing me down, I don’t stick around.

Honestly, Obsidian shouldn’t have been a 2025 move. It should’ve been a 2018 move, if at all. Obsidian has never been a good fit for security in the workplace.
For security, check out Anytype. It’s got more variety, and complete encryption.
I'm all for open sources softwares and will always choose them over closed sources when I can. There is no comparison between Obsidian and the alternatives, open sources or not.
I've tried Logseq and Anytype extensively. They are both great if you don't need anything else than the features they provide. (Note that there was data loss issues with Logseq. I don't know if it has been fixed.)

I keep trying to get into this app, but I can't figure out how to... add an image. I looked through the documentation. I feel like I am missing something really obvious. Help?
It’s too bad I can’t stand the look and feel of obsidian. I had hopes for Anytype and Affine, but affine is lacking in the mobile department and Anytype has to few publishing options.
Yeah but obsidian is closed source they are better open-source alternatives like logseq or anytype eventhough they are young
I just check out Heptabase, and for people like me, I don’t think it’s a great fit. What makes Capacities different is the object based system.
In other apps, yes we can make a tag for it, but it’s another step to go through. Sometimes even another brain power when I forget (which I often do) the correct tag.
The most similar app to Capacities is Anytype, but sadly Anytype’s UX is subpar compared to Capacities. It is confusing as well for average users when we hit the storage limit.

yeah I have used obsidian with self hosted livesync (unraid server) and it works but I kept getting conflicts which are solveable but just not so nice. I also had to manage my network connection more because when not in my home network I needed to use tailscale and so that often caught me off-guard later on when trying to access something I just created on my laptop on my phone while in transit.
Eventually I just asked myself "why obsidian and not something else" and the answer was because Obsidian is cool and local first. But then I realized I never really used a lot of the plugins that Obsidian is known for and I didn't care about the graph and thus I started looking for other local first options. Anytype came out on top because I do require sync. At this point I don't get why there are so few other apps that rely on P2P sync. It works great!

Am I missing something here?
I just want to drag items around on the list in the order I see fit.

Holy... I didn't even know that was possible with Notion, given how it's viewed as your personal and private space.
In recent months I have gravitated away from Notion a bit. I don't use it as much, and when I do, I realize how much time formatting actually takes of me. Yet I cannot find a simple enough alternative. Anytype, Capacities, Obsidian, Craft... too similar, too much noise. Apple Notes - boring. I cannot seem to find something that's just elegant, clean and fit for quick notes with minimal formatting.
Anyway, off to make my first backup! Thanks for the warning and I hope you get your data back.

What is the timeline for the next update? Previously posts suggested mid-April. By my reckoning, we are past mid-April and into late April.
I am waiting for a bug fix, and it would really help me plan if I had a better idea of how much longer I have to wait.
Hi, this usually is not caused by the app install itself, so reinstalling often does not help.
Because it started right after changing the data location, the most likely cause is that the local Anytype data in the new location became inconsistent or incomplete. The safest fix is:
1. Quit Anytype completely
2. Make a backup copy of your current Anytype data folder
3. Reset the local data and force a cold sync
4. Reopen Anytype and let it sync again

Sorry, what do you mean "offline mode you can self-host on a server"?
Those are two different things, but Anytype supports peer to peer, so if all your devices are on the same wifi they will sync.
I use it self-hosted and it works well, but you'll need to have everyone use a .yaml file to point the app to that server (and also get DNS set up)
You selected three tools with rather different paradigms for usage than Obsidian and each other, so that's an interesting thing to consider... any of those are going to require that you learn some new things and that you re-think your note-taking habits to take proper advantage of their paradigms. I don't think that's bad, just something to contend with... the learning curve. I'd suggest considering AnyType over AFFiNE though. I keep checking Affine out but I don't feel like I see much change in it over the years, AnyType however is consistently active, improving, and has a lot of innovative work on its roadmap.

i think i didn't have expectations written down, but i would share it in the meeting or have notes like bulletpoints in my Anytype app (notion alternative). But I started recently creating a SOP as well.
Every cloud service can see everything you write and say. All employees have backdoor access to anything you put on their servers. This goes for basically every cloud-based service that doesn't explicitly say your content is "encrypted" and "local-first" (like Anytype, for example.)
That doesn't mean that everything you've ever posted \*has been seen\* by an employee, of course. Often times, people will get away with keeping really sketchy, TOS-breaking content on their notions (or other platforms like say dropbox or google drive or what have you) and not get caught/banned until something flags their account as suspicious (like making lots of shareable links in a short span of time, that can be a red flag for possible spambot activity… employee goes in to investigate and sees sketchy stuff, bam, banned.)
So you definitely want to be mindful about what you're willing to put online into any cloud-based platform like this. Don't put sensitive things like your home address or account passwords or y'know, lewds lmao. You never know when an employee's gonna take a glance at your content because of a weird "suspicious activity" flag or even worse, the platform gets a massive data leak from data ransom hackers.

The one trick is to set your inline query to be 100% correct, while working inside the Template for your City object type. Then, every time you use that template to make a city, it will continue to use "this object".
I found that if you insert a query into a template, it can lose its "this object" filter, needs to be set once again inside the template before deploying the template.
Also, as a way to fix existing cities, it's possible if you copy paste the inline query from a city that is correct, I've found it retains the "This object" filter.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently trying to build a reusable template for a “City” object (e.g., Tokyo, Paris, etc.) in Anytype, and I’ve run into a limitation with queries and filters that makes this difficult.
What I would like to achieve is a template that contains predefined sections like:
* Food
* Entertainment
* To-Dos
Each section should display a filtered list (Query/Collection) of related objects (e.g., places), but **only those that belong to the current city page**.
# Example Use Case
Let’s say I have:
**Type: City**
* Tokyo
* Paris
**Type: Place**
* Ichiran Shibuya (Category: Food, City: Tokyo)
* teamLab Planets (Category: Entertainment, City: Tokyo)
* Café de Flore (Category: Food, City: Paris)
# What I want in a Template
In my **City template**, I would like to define a query like:
* Type = Place
* Category = Food
* City = **current object (this City page)**
So that:
* On the Tokyo page → only Tokyo food places are shown
* On the Paris page → only Paris food places are shown
# Current Limitation
Right now, filters in queries are static.
If I set:
* City = Tokyo
then this value is saved in the template and reused for every new city page, which defeats the purpose of having a reusable template.
There is currently no way to reference something like:
* “this object”
* “current page”
* or a dynamic context value inside a query
# Why this matters
This feature would:
* Make templates truly reusable
* Enable powerful relational setups (similar to Obsidian Dataview or Notion filtered views)
* Remove the need to manually adjust filters for every new object
* Greatly improve workflows for use cases like:
* travel planning
* knowledge bases
* project dashboards
# Suggested Feature
Introduce support for a dynamic filter value such as:
* `Current object`
* or `This page`
* or a variable like `this`
Example:
City contains this
or
City = Current Object
# Comparison (Obsidian)
In Obsidian (Dataview), this is possible using expressions like:
this.city
which automatically adapts to the current note.
# Summary
Anytype already has powerful relations and queries, but without a dynamic “current object” reference, templates cannot fully leverage them.
Adding this would unlock a much more scalable and intuitive workflow.
Thanks a lot! 🙌

Sound like a plan. I would not recommend it for budgeting. With Todo's you should be aware that there is no way being notified but for me that's fine. A huge plus with anytype is the ability to work and access it offline very well and sync is very fast!
Did you perhaps write anything in your journal that might be considered spicy or explicit? (It’s your journal so it makes sense that you would write with honest details.)
I think that when you create a “share” link to any entry, it always passes through a review by either Notion moderation staff or a moderator AI to ensure users aren’t sharing any content that they would consider unacceptable. I don’t think that they would make the distinction that it’s a journal and harmless, they might just see a phrase or banned keyword and assume the worst even if incorrectly.
That said, if there was nothing in the content that they would get puritanical about, then I also wonder if the issue might be your location. You had said you were in Hong Kong right? They might have mistaken you and perhaps the amount of shared links as something spammy, maybe assumed you were a bot?
I think a lot of detections these days happen by AI and AI is awful at inferring nuance. So people often get caught in weongful bans because of mistakes made by AI. :/
Either way, I’m sorry to hear that this happened to you and hopefully you can somehow get your content reinstated.
If you decide to leave Notion after this, I highly recommend Anytype or Obsidian as a replacement. I’m increasingly unimpressed with Notion’s corporate-focused enshittification.

+1 on this. AnyType seems to be the holy grail, but the csv export is a major need.
Not to be the ai guy, but why not have Opus review the code and help to finish it up so that it can be shipped? AI copilots are pretty incredible at this point and if it's reviewing pre-written code, it will act as a force multiplier.

Yeah, I saw a similar thread too not long ago thinking it was going to be the next update, but I guess not yet unfortunately.

Unfortunately, i haven't used AnyType and only use Notion until now
I would NOT use it for budgeting. Personally I will only use a software built for budgeting for budgeting. There are lots of good (free/cheap) software you can use for budgeting. Everything else you've listed you can do with Anytype.

I'm in the process of setting up a family space for this exact reason and personally I think Anytype is a great choice. Another handy feature is in chat you can add links or files and that automatically gets added to your family space rather than it being lost in a WhatsApp conversation.
Regarding your budgeting, you could create a Transactions object and enter a transaction with a date and total. You can then create a query to query from date to date and it can count the totals a column in grid view. I suppose you could create different categories for the transactions, create a view for each category, and then you can count the total expenditure in each category.

I'm thinking that I might just put my budget into a gSheet that I'd link through Anytype, but it loses some of its purpose when it comes to privacy.
Overall, I'd say it's a good option. Except for budgeting; since AnyType doesn't have a spreadsheet, it's almost impossible to create a budget.
I'm looking for an app where I can have all of my family's important stuff shared in the same HUB.
The main things I'd like:
* Budget
* To Do lists / House Projects to do
* Legal documents and important infos (like detailling which home insurance we have, etc)
* The possibility to use it on phone / desktop and online / offline (with automatic sync when online)
* Sharing all of this with my family on multiple devices / accounts
I was thinking of using Notion, but the fact that there is no offline mode I can host on a dedicated server kind of puts me off. I don't really want to give notion all of this info.
Does Anytype look like a good choice for this?

Super new with Anytype so bear with me.
In the Get Started Desktop Space there are Task objects displayed in a list with the action type (square checkbox in the name) with a circular checkbox property. When you click on either checkbox the other is also filled and similarly unchecking one unchecks the other.
I get that you need the checkbox property so you can select all the items and change their state at once, that's great.
My problem is I can't in my own space get the linking of the \[ \] and ( ) checkboxes in each item when I'm trying to make my own version of this for the weekly shopping.
Any assistance would be great and much appreciated.

i also have been waiting for a long time for this too! I know the team said that they will come back this after other things are done. I do believe they still plan on building this at some point. not sure when though.
have you seen the thread about this in the community forums?

I switched to obsidian for privacy reasons, but tbh I hate typing in obsidian, so now I am in anytype but keeping an eye on octarine.
I can't see them ever doing #3, they have pretty much abandoned their local space feature and in the end they are a block based editor that can export in markdown, not a markdown editor.
You could look for a better editor to use on ios, if it is just for quick notes.

For me, I do not see how or why calendar functionality / view was even added if there was no attempt to make it work with external calendars. It is completely and utterly, functionally useless at this moment in time. It's a massive blocker for me as I would really love to use AnyType for life organisation, but without being able to register events in my Apple Calendar (or Google Calendar), I don't see how it's useful to anyone? Also, the fact that of all the clients it could have been added to, it was added to desktop first instead of mobile? Am I missing something or do most people use calendars on mobile / tablets? There's definitely some interesting and strange design / implementation choices made.
I do want to clarify, I absolutely love AnyType and the concept. It ticks many boxes for me, but there are still a few areas it's lacking functionality that are preventing me from being able to adopt it fully. I am waiting for the day it feels complete as I was ready to jump ship yesterday.

I am running the self-hosted Anytype sync server using Docker, closely following this repo: [https://github.com/anyproto/any-sync-dockercompose](https://github.com/anyproto/any-sync-dockercompose)
I only changed the the following to be my device's ipv4 so that app could connect. But when I open the app, switch from Anytype-hosted server to self-hosted and provide the client.yml, it keeps loading forever, and the interface never loads. I tried switching devices, but the problem still persists for the Android app. The desktop client works fine on the other hand. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue?

Hi there,
I am a student in my masters degree and use Notion to plan my semester with all my modules and tasks. I stumbled on anytype and took some time to recreate my page there but I cant quite finish it, there are several problems I have, that I came here to maybe find a solution? (listed in high to low prio)
1. Calendar sync / subscribable calendar so I can see all my tasks also in my Apple Calendar, this isnt even perfect in Notion and I read this straight up doesnt exist in anytype but maybe I didnt see the solution? (I found the calendar view but thats not an sufficent)
2. Live Chart: I really like seeing all my tasks in a pie chart that gets more and more percent done thrueout the semester, I tried the mermaid integration but I only got a static pie chart where i would have to update it myself. (also its hella ugly tbh)
3. being able to edit the positioning of Items in a block so the modules shown in a galery are not pressed to the edge of the block
Here is a screenshot of a part of my page that could maybe show what i mean in 3:

The best system depends on the goals and the psychology of the user. A good system for academic research is not the best for planning roleplaying games or making a knowledge base for your business. Even if we home in on a specific use case, like a academia, the specifics might matter a lot. For instance, very empirically driven research can take a more project base approach to everything, while a more theoretical approach really benefit from a strong PKM layer dedicated to analysis and reflection in between the litterature notes and the project notes.
Anyway, a general recommendation I can give is to check out how everyone adapt Obsidian to their needs with the plugins. If you want to commercialise your project, you either want to do something different or something better. I think Obsidian will stay the best PKM app for adaptibility for the foreseable futur because of its very involved community.
As for the ideas of having a PKM be the interface to access your whole system, I know there was talks going in that direction from Anytype developpers, but I don't know how serious it was. I would be affraid to give any app control over my whole system, but making the app able to see files in selected folders and read/modify them or open them in the dedicated app makes sense.
Keep in mind, however, that sync might be an issue. Different devices usually don't have the same files. Mobiles, for instance, usually don't have the files locally, even when they are connected to a cloud service. You must either sync everything together, which is complicated since most file types are quite heavier than simple text files, or you deal with the incongruencies of misadapted sync solutions.

I have imported the notes from Notion into Anytype and deleted yesterday. Those entries still show up even after restarting the application. Is there a way to clean up those? not sure if this is a bug with the application.
In Notion, you can grant editor access to a specific page, or a page and its descendants. This allows for collaboration on a subset of a larger / more complex knowledge base. I understand something like this is difficult to implement in a non-hierarchical structure like Anytype, but I'd like to get the discussion started.
**The use case**
I like to organize all my projects in one space. This allows me to create a centralized overview of my tasks, allows me to easily find research documents, even if I don't remember for what project I researched a particular topic, allows me to keep track of organizations and people I worked with, etc. I think this is one of the biggest strengths of Anytype.
However, when I collaborate with someone on a project, I am forced to make a decision: do I temporarily abandon my documentation structure, or do I give whoever I'm collaborating with access to my entire knowledge base? Both options have big drawbacks.
**The feature**
I'd like to be able to add objects to "subspaces", and grant editor / reader access to only a specific subspace, as opposed to the entire space. This would allow someone to edit / read a subset of my knowledge base, so I could keep the structure I like, without giving away everything I've ever worked on. Here's what I think it could look like.
* You select one or more objects and add them to a sub-space. Here, you can choose to either add them to an existing subspace, or create a new subspace.
* You can manage members / access rights for subspaces.
* When creating a new object inside another object that is part of a subspace (e.g. by typing /page to create a new page in an existing page), you will automatically add it to the subspace.
* Settings for subspaces could include:
* Be prompted to add a new object to the subspace, instead of it being added automatically.
* Allow / disallow invited members to create new types.
**TL;DR**
I'd like to be able to grant editor access to a subset of a space. In Notion, you can choose to grant access to a specific page, or a page and all its descendants. This is more complex in Anytype, as there is no hierarchy. The feature could be implemented as a "subspace" you can add objects to. New objects created from another object that is in a subspace, would be added to said subspace. This could be a toggle in settings. In the end, this feature would improve Anytype's value as a project management / documentation tool, especially for people who collaborate with a lot of different people / organizations.

Hello. I noticed I needed to update my mobile phone app, so I uninstalled Anytype so I could download a new .apk file from anytype.io. Unfortunately, I only see the following error when I tap on the 'Universal,' 'Arm64,' or 'Arm32' links: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."
With that I figured I'd just reinstall Anytype from the .apk file I still have on my device. Even if my devices don't sync, it is better than nothing. However, when I try to sign back in using my Anytype login key, I'm left with an indefinite loading screen.
So, I then tried to login via the QR code. However, when I try that, I receive an error message that reads "Enable Google Play services. Anytype won't work unless you enable Google Play services." This is quite surprising since I did not install this instance of Anytype from the Google Play Store. The .apk file is from anytype.io.
I absolutely love the Anytype app for both desktop and mobile. However, enabling Google Play services on my Android phone is not an option for me. Are there any options for continuing using Anytype on my Android device without Google Play Services? I know Google is trying to lay down the hammer for developer verification, but I thought that was coming in September of this year?
I am not currently using Graphene OS, but I plan to use it in the future. Would it be impossible to use Anytype with Graphene OS?
Thank you all for any help.

Currently on 0.54.11. Seems like some glitches since 0.54.0-ish (I didn't quite track that) for desktop version where regular toggle does not automatically continue as toggle after ENTER (similar with bullet or number). I am a heavy toggle user and it is distracting to "/tog"+ ENTER for every new row. My current work around is keeping an empty toggle and ctrl+D, then manually drag them in place.
I wanted to report bug and I found: [50+ results fortoggle #bug-report tags:Desktop status:unsolved](https://community.anytype.io/search?expanded=true&q=toggle%20%23bug-report%20tags%3ADesktop%20status%3Aunsolved) ... quick glance through and I found myself also kicked into half of them, it's just not as pain as the current one.
Perhaps the development team should allocate a person check through this bug list, clear the functional one in a go, perhaps you can fix a few more aesthetic bug along the way. Inline functional features should get some priority, and place in a stable architecture design to not get overwrite in version update.
(Thanks for being free. I not demanding for speed, as I waited for 11 fixed before I plan to report, I just hope to use Anytype forever. Please help.)

Hi guys.
New to Anytype and I love it. I am a big fan of self-hosting and keeping my data away from big corps that wants to suck out my data from my computer. Therefore i was glad to discover that i can self-host a network. But I discovered that basically anyone can connect and crate spaces.
This behavior is not wanted thou people could sniff my network out and fuck with me by filling up my disk with crap.
I don’t want to use Cloudflare, Tailscale or other vpn services but i would love to be able to sync my stuff anywhere not just from home behind my FW
so my question is how do solve this problem with self-hosting networks?

Please do let us use the system fonts, instead of the original one in phones.
I’ve tried basically every note-taking app out there – Google Keep, Samsung Notes, Anytype, you name it. Nothing ever really clicked.
Then I found Capacities and Anytype, and the whole "object-oriented" approach changed everything for me. Thinking in objects (People, Books, Projects) while writing just makes so much sense for my brain. But I still prefer Obsidian as my main tool, and those apps didn't quite fit my workflow.
So, I built a plugin called Objects to bring that feeling to Obsidian.
It lets you create new notes inline using templates with a simple @ trigger. You can define your object types, and when you type @, it'll prompt you for a title, create the note in the right folder with your template, and link it instantly.
Basically, it's a way to keep the flow while creating new "objects" without leaving your current note.
Check it out if you're interested: [Objects](https://github.com/Finn-Kraemer/obsidian-objects)
Edit:
Feel free to contribute to the project, whether with your own code or by opening a few issues on GitHub so I can improve or change something.

Just spotted a solid guide on the official blog about integrating **Make.com** **with Anytype**, and I wanted to drop a quick summary for anyone running multi-account or content matrix setups.
If you use Anytype for SOPs or projects, manual data entry is a pain. This integration turns your static knowledge base into an active system by pushing external data directly into your workspace.
**The TL;DR on Setup:**
* **Define the Trigger:** Start simple (e.g., a new lead form submission or task update).
* **Map Fields Carefully:** This is where most automations fail. Ensure your source data (tags, dates, statuses) perfectly matches Anytype's structure.
* **Test First:** Run a few test records before fully turning it on to avoid cluttering your workspace.
* **Avoid Two-Way Sync:** Stick to a one-way sync initially to prevent infinite loops and duplicates.
**How does this tie into MoreLogin?** The article outlines a great operational stack for teams:
* **Anytype (The Brain):** Stores planning, structured records, and SOPs.
* **Make.com** **(The Nervous System):** Automates data flow and triggers cross-app actions.
* **MoreLogin (The Hands):** When it's time to actually execute tasks across multiple browser environments or platforms, MoreLogin securely handles the account isolation.
Basically, Make.com routes your tasks or lead data into Anytype automatically, and your team executes those tasks securely via MoreLogin profiles. It keeps planning organized, automation structured, and execution frictionless.

I don't see them on desktop, only on mobile.
Hello!
Im using Claude Desktop with anytype MCP (similar to obsidian) to act as my task assistant. I usually copypaste things from work, updates, etc... and it will create or update tasks.
I have a prompt where I specify the space ID, the project ID, etc, and what the workflow is.
Under sonnet 4.6 this works like a charm.
I have been trying to replicate that locally using qwen 27B Q4 in my 3090 with no luck, but I think the problem is not the model itself but the UI. I have tried with AnythingLLM which looks really promising but it is not executing tools correctly. Model seems to follow the workflow and generate correct JSONs but then no tool is executed normally (sometimes it creates a tasks but it doesn't asign a project or things like that)
Is there any windows desktop tool I can use to ease that work?

I recently switched from Obsidian to Anytype, and overall I really like it, but my workflow is currently broken. I use it for school and need to edit PDFs regularly. At the moment, Anytype does not seem to support direct PDF editing, and when I use an external editor, it only edits a copy. That means I have to re-upload the PDF every time, which is really inconvenient.
Is there any way to edit PDFs directly in Anytype? Is this a feature that is currently being worked on? Or would I need to switch back to Obsidian for this use case? I would even be willing to give up encryption or privacy for school-related files, since that is not especially important to me. A per-Space setting for this could be a good compromise.
Or just a built in Editor would solve the issues of Encryption (I think so, I am not sure)

This isn't an Anytype issue per se since I had the same issue on Notesnooks and indeed this Reddit WYSIWYG.

I've noticed if you type -- it replaces it with —. Can a replacement be set up for double and single quotes?
Incredible app, by the way. I found it a bit baffling to start with but once you get your head around it, it's amazing!

For the last few weeks, I stopped working on my game to focus on my backend. Cloud storage and version control can be expensive, so I built my own studio infrastructure using older computer parts I had saved over the years.
Here is the setup:
**The Hardware:**
* **OS:** Unraid
* **CPU:** Intel Core i5-7600
* **RAM:** 16 GB DDR4
* **Storage:** 10 TB Array (with parity protection) + 1 TB Cache drive
* **Network:** Two servers. One is in my office, and the second is at my home for off-site backups. They are connected securely using Tailscale. This lets me access everything from anywhere in the world without opening router ports.
**The Software (Docker Containers):**
* **Perforce:** Local version control for my heavy Unreal Engine files.
* **Nextcloud:** My own private cloud storage.
* **Anytype:** A great Notion alternative to keep all my game design documents and tasks private.
* **Vaultwarden:** A self-hosted password manager for studio accounts.
**Why did I do this?**
1. **Saving Money:** Hosting this myself saves a lot of money over time compared to paying for cloud subscriptions.
2. **Safety:** With Perforce and automatic backups to my house, years of hard work are safe, even if a drive breaks.
3. **Ready for the Future:** If I ever need to work with other people, the server is already set up to securely handle multiple users.
Now that the server is running smoothly, my focus is 100% back on the game. In the news page of my website is an image of the server attached: [https://www.operationnuma.de](https://www.operationnuma.de/)

* **CPU:** Intel Core i5-7600
* **RAM:** 16 GB DDR4
In the news page of my website is an image of the server attached: [https://www.operationnuma.de](https://www.operationnuma.de)

I've used Anytype daily for over a year, now, and keep several projects in different spaces in my vault. I opted to do local-only mode due to the size of my projects, and had it synced across 3 devices.
Today I added Anytype to a NEW device, entered my passphrase, and everything was immediately wiped from my other devices. Every page now presents me with a notification that says "Looks like you cleaned the house, ready to start fresh?"
To which my answer is an emphatic, "No! No I am NOT ready to start fresh!"
While waiting on a response from Anytype support, does anyone have an idea of how I can recover my data? My last manual backup was months ago, because I'm an idiot. If not, I understand, and can rebuild my PKM and projects from the ground up, but it will be...inconvenient.
Any ideas are appreciated.
\--
UPDATE 1: My 2-month old backups give me a good starting point for rebuilding my PKM and such, though not ideal, it'll do for now. The files available on my older devices are about 1/3 the size of my backups, so I'm fairly certain the files are gone.
What I THINK may have happened -- when installing AnyType on a new device, I didn't switch it into local-only mode before I tried to log in with my passphrase, so it tried to sync with the cloud before syncing via local p2p, then overwrote the local instances of my vault.

I love anytype and most of the new features are actually something i don't need and i'm happy that they keep trying to make it better. But when they release a new version and I have to update, I could never have a smooth update. I use a mac, on the mac I basically have to reinstall because the 'Update app' button does not update. On the ubuntu side, it just says No Connection and when I click 'Check Updates' it also does nothing.
Are there plans to make updating the app a priority?
I love the app and I don't have plans switching to other apps although I have quite the notes on other apps as well, but I stopped using them because of anytype

I need a SubSubHeading in Anytype.
How can I implement it?
Whenever I type something, there's a noticeable lag. At first the text appears as I type, however, mid sentence the typed characters don't appear and then appear all at once. I am currently running AnyType 0.54.11 on Mac M1. Hardware Acceleration is enabled. What might be the issue? Thanks!

I use Anytype in my small business and genuinely prefer it over a lot of the more mainstream tools. My main issue is collaboration.
When working with a team, it feels like there’s not much visibility when someone changes or updates things in a shared space unless you keep checking manually. Even message notifications seem a bit minimal. I’d really love better notifications in general, including basic sound/vibration alerts.
are other people using Anytype in a business/team context and just building workarounds around it?
Still a big fan of Anytype, I just wish the notification side was stronger.

For example a free SPA that spits out (typescript?) objects or templates users can import and use, like a gallery of books including the references to the individual books.
Hey there! Im using Hermes Agent for coding with qwen 3.5-27B dense but Im wondering if there is any recommendation for that setup to have a multimodal client + model, similar to Claude Desktop, where I can install MCP for anytype and say things like:
\- create this task in anytype in my X project
\- add this screenshot
\- What do you think about this?
\- Generate an image of...
like a daily driver llm for more administrative tasks and not coding
Thanks in advance!

An attempt of sorts to condense every "Notion Alternatives" thread into one. Here are the ones I've used and am aware of, please feel free to leave your own in the replies and I'll pop it in here. Each list will include a pros, cons, and personal notes section.
Important to note I'm coming at this as a person with at more than one form of neurodivergence who largely uses Productivity Apps for writing, so if you use Notion for Work or Class this isn't tailored to you just yet
**Notion**
Oh how the mid have fallen </3
Pros:
\-Large and active community section, it's very easy to find tutorials, templates, and just about anything else you might need because someone else has already done it.
\-The UI scratches the autism itch just right
Cons:
\-I've heard the database features are mid, I wouldn't know because I don't use them
\-I've also heard the permissions and capacity for sharing is really bad
Personal:
\-Generally it's more of a "kitchen sink" instead of doing one thing REALLY well, which works for some people
\-Every productivity software is trying to be like it instead of better, for some reason
\-I really hate the random text functionality it's missing for no reason. It's been a while but can you still not use justify as an alignment?? The fuck
**Google Docs**
I don't even wanna put this here
Pros:
\-It is VERY easy to share anything with anyone
\-that's it
Cons:
\-It's. Fucking Google docs. They're owned by Google.
\-Is it worth selling your soul?
\-Apparently the mobile app is finnicky as fuck, I haven't had this issue much but I believe it
Personal Note:
\-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TOMATO TOMATO
**Obsidian**
Alright here's the real competition
Pros:
\-Has its own identity, isn't marketed directly as a Notion Alternative, looks and functions nothing like it
\-Very active plugins community, much like Notion itself
\-Local, data is secure and stored on your device
\-Customize for anything you want
Cons:
\-Customize for ANYTHING you want
\-Data sync isn't intrinsic unless you subscribe, not a huge deal because there are a good few plugins that will fix this for you but they require a third party setup of some sort (dropbox, etc.)
Personal Note:
\-The. UI makes my autism Itchy. I genuinely cannot get past it it's not just incomprehensible to me it's actively displeasing.
**Anytype**
VERY clearly Not Notion:tm:
Pros:
\-No AI
\-Local
Cons:
\-Trying WAY too hard to be a Notion Alternative
\-Does not have an identity of its own, the UI is incredibly similar, it's not even subtle
Personal Note:
\-It feels Uncanny to me? Like the UI, it makes me uncomfortable in the same way some AI photos of people do. It's Almost correct but the parts that are important are missing?
I hastily wrote this up at 3 AM because I'm sleep deprived please forgive typos and nonsense commentary I WILL fix it up later

One of my biggest frustrations with AI coding assistants is that they have zero memory. Every session I'm re-explaining my goals, my team, my ongoing work. Context never compounds.
So I built **Anytype Mind** — a structured knowledge base that lives in [Anytype](https://anytype.io/) and plugs into Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor via MCP. The AI reads and writes your actual life/work as typed objects with relations, not just a blob of markdown.
**What it actually does:**
* **12 object types** for work notes, decisions, incidents, 1:1s, people, teams, competencies, PR analyses, brag entries, etc.
* **5 lifecycle hooks** that auto-route content — the AI classifies what you say (decision? win? incident?) and creates the right objects automatically
* **14 slash commands** like `/standup`, `/dump`, `/wrap-up`, `/self-review`, `/peer-scan`
* **8 specialized subagents** for things like brag-spotting (finding uncaptured wins), cross-linking missing relations, and review prep
The killer use case for me: performance review season. The relations between work notes, competencies, and people have been building all year. When it's time to write a self-review, the evidence trail is already there.
Setup is \~5 minutes: install Anytype, run the bootstrap script to create the schema, drop [`SKILL.md`](http://SKILL.md) as your [`CLAUDE.md`](http://CLAUDE.md), and add the MCP server.
GitHub: [https://github.com/imcvampire/anytype-mind](https://github.com/imcvampire/anytype-mind)
Would love feedback — especially from anyone already using Anytype or running local knowledge management setups.
PS: This repo is heavily inspired by [https://github.com/breferrari/obsidian-mind](https://github.com/breferrari/obsidian-mind).

Hello all!
I've been trying to figure out Anytype for several days now (a few hours a day), but I'm close to giving up.
What im trying to do is organise project (and sub-projects and sub tasks), and a hierarchical shopping list.
As an example: I want to build a greenhouse, and have a nas that also hosts my website. (they are of course not related). To host my wesites, i need a server, for the server, I need the components (prerequisites). Before buying components, i need to research.
Next i want to make a shopping list, i want to have both individual items directly under the shopping list, and also have some categories, such as books, movies, ***server parts*** (such as CPU, HDD's etc)***, greenhouse components*** (such as plastic panels and wood), etc, and then the individual items under these categories.
What's the good way to do this?

I have just started using AnyType. I have a decent sized life built up in Capacities, but I'm tired of keeping track of sensitive information in one place and everything else in Capacities. So I decided to switch.
The single most difficult aspect of moving over has been the lack of inline highlighted tagging. Besides being a very powerful and easy system, it is visually appealing and makes going back through notes easy and effective for the more visual-minded. I have almost come to the conclusion that I will just stick with Capacities for everything and maybe use AnyType for sensitive information. But that defeats the purpose and still a 2 system approach.
Inline tagging does not appear anywhere in the roadmaps, so perhaps I have a very unique need. So maybe no one will have a good suggestion. But, if there is anyone here who has struggled with this, perhaps you could advise on how to work around or overcome this.
Thanks!

Thanks for every developers on this project ! I love it :D Just i want to see what is the priority this year, where can i find this ?
Thanks for your response 👍
As title says, when having a huge PKM it's such a great thing to be able to use a side chat and ask things like "what have I said about X" or "what're the thoughts on Y". And get a nice AI response of it pulling the info and drawing connections.
Essentially Notion AI. Or in Obsidian you can have this with a plugin. But i refuse to go to Notion and pay $24/mo for this.
I know we all like to hate on AI and don't want it forced down our throats but at least for me and hopefully some as you as well, you can see how great of a feature this is compared to trying to search by keyword.

Currently my data is about 3GB. All in one Workspace.
Will all this always be downloaded to all mobile devices using that workspace? Or is it somehow possible / will be possible to select what will be stored on the device?
I’ve been working remotely for a while now, and honestly… I’ve tried way too many tools.
Most of them just added more work instead of saving time. So over time, I kept only the ones that actually help me get things done without overthinking.
Here’s my current setup (would love feedback if I’m missing something better):
**Planning / Tasks**
* **Sunsama**: helps me plan my day without feeling overwhelmed
* **Todoist**: simple backup for quick task tracking
**Focus / Deep work**
* **Cold Turkey**: blocks distractions when I need to focus
* **One Sec**: stops me from opening apps like Instagram without thinking
* **LookAway**: reminds me to take breaks (helps with screen fatigue)
**Notes / Thinking**
* **Anytype**: simple notes, no clutter
* **Craft**: cleaner writing and organi**s**ing ideas
* **Obsidian**: for deeper thinking and connecting ideas
**Meetings / Communication**
* **Granola**: takes meeting notes automatically
* **Loom**: I record quick videos instead of long messages
**Email / Inbox**
* **Superhuman**: when I want to clear inbox really fast
**Content / Work stuff**
* **Ulysses**: distraction-free writing
* **Cap.so**: quick screen recordings for demos
* **Supercut AI**: edits videos faster without too much effort
**Research / Learning**
* **Mixpanel**: helps me understand what’s actually happening on projects
* **Vibe Reader**: turns long content into quick summaries
**Outreach / Growth**
* **Hunter.io** **+ Clay**: building lead lists and outreach
**Scheduling / Time**
* **Clockwise / Reclaim**: protects focus time on calendar
* **OnceHub**: easy scheduling without back-and-forth
**Side projects / Setup**
* **JetHost**: I use it to host small tools and landing pages… mainly because it’s simple and I don’t have to deal with tech issues
* **Cloudways**: when I need more control
**Random but useful**
* **Airtime**: helps manage calls/meetings better
* **ClearVPN**: simple privacy when working from different places
* **SideNotes**: quick notes during calls

My iOS devices are fully synced (green dot says synchronized), but when I try to use them offline often files are missing. Only when I‘m online the file is opening. Under local storage it also says a too small MB number - and I never pressed the offload files button. So how can I keep a local copy of my files like pdfs and pictures on my iOS devices which shows offline?
I discovered Anytype a few months ago. Since then, I’ve loved it. The UI, animations, local-first approach, open source… everything felt perfect. It became my favorite Android app.
It was a bit complicated to figure out how to do things, but I managed within two days — or at least, I thought I did.
Alongside Anytype, I also discovered the PARA method.
In my setup, I have a “Resources” parent object. Inside it, I created resource objects like diary, job log, to-buy list, and docs.
Inside the diary, I have pages like daily notes, routines, and logbooks.
Inside the daily notes page, I have objects called “dailies.”
This setup might sound overly complicated, but it came together naturally and has been easy for me to use. I’ve been using it for months.
But then I encountered an issue. There are many dailies in my daily notes, and I have to scroll to the bottom every time to add a new one. I can’t sort them.
I searched around and found that a query might be the solution.
So I created property on my dailies, and created a query — very nice. I called it “Dailies Index.” All my existing dailies show up in there. But whenever I create a new daily inside the index, it doesn’t show up on the daily notes page. I have to manually add a link.
It doesn’t work even when I use a template. I can’t add links in the template either.
Why is this happening?
How do you guys handle this?
I thought I had figured out the app.
Sure, maybe there’s another way to do this using tags. But why? That just makes the setup more complicated for a single feature.
Am I missing something simple here?
Is there an easy solution?
Am I being silly?
Why aren’t more people running into this issue?
Is this an Android-only problem?
Sorry for the long rant, this has been bugging me for a while

When I click on a backlink on any iOS Device there comes this message. On my Mac its working. I‘m mew to anytpe and i love it so far, but I‘m wondering why the backlinks not working on iOS even after the last update to 0.45.2, because in my opinion they are very important.
Next question. :-)
Is there a (hidden) option to make calendars smaller? they currently take way too much space on a page.
Thank you
I´d like to have a single query containing all my open Tasks and Objects with a due-date that is yesterday or above.
Is there any way to get this working? I´m able to create a query for all open tasks and all Objects with a due-date in the future. But I struggle getting it combined without any manual effort. (no collection)

Edit:
I figured it out 🥳
Query with type "Property" and Property set to "Object type".
Then I set up advanced filters for my Object Types with due dates and done-property.

My workflow: I take (unstructured) notes in meetings.
Afterwards I feed them to an LLM, that has access to Anytype via MCP.
In general, this works. When I tell the LLM to create an object of the type "Meeting" from the notes, it will do so (and even link it to appropriate other objects).
But no matter which prompt I use, I can't get it to adhere to my standard template for the meeting type.
That's very annoying, because it takes much time to apply a template, after an object was already created.
Did anyone else get this to work? What are your prompts?

This app is so good is way over any other foss out there, on par with even Notion, or even better. However, there is some caveats: Tags no being objects, searchability, and pasted images from Twitter (formerly X).
First, I would like to being able to use tags in more advance way (see capacities). Though i could get away with collections. But when it come with images, it would make it great for albums and galleries.
Second, searchability could be better. Time and blesses to the dev team. Tag in the search bar would be great.
Then pasting from the web (Twitter), the images don't get indexed as objects in the images type section.
PD: I like this app, it's foss It's local first. I so great already that beats many other (not throwing hate on them btw). It's foss.
PD2: Blesses.

I recently gave Obsidian a try, since I’m coming from Notion and Anytype. I’d like to know if you could offer any useful advice for a beginner.
Right now, I plan to use Obsidian for personal note-taking and, in the near future, for my studies. So far, I’ve created a personal vault and a separate one for my studies, each with different plugins.
At the same time, I don’t quite understand how the templates work. If anyone could give me a little guidance, that would be great.

I´d like to regularly review my stuff, because often I forget to set tags or maybe had initially the wrong object-type.
So I try to figure out a way to have a query showing "everything I have". I tried to setup a query they always apply to a dedicated object-type or tags? I was not able to figure out a way to just list all objects stored.
Is there a trick I havend found yet?

Hi, I was wondering why my sidebar was so different from the one I could see on the Anytype website and Anytype YouTube videos. The UI is different, and I do not have any "Add" or "Edit widgets" buttons, nor do I have the possibility to fully customise the sidebar with collections and selected pages. I checked on the Windows app connected to the same vault and the interface is the same. Is there anything I am missing? I am really confused as to why it would be different on my end

This backlink was showing normally like a card and I even changed its "Preview" to different styles but I accidentally backspaced and removed it and now I have no idea how to get it back. Couldn't find any related solutions.
I've been searching for hours, but can't find anything that fits my needs.
* No account required
* No ads
* Free (if it has some paid features that's ok, as long as the main features are free)
* Simple (I just want to write very simple text notes)
* no markup (I am fine with no editor at all)
* a way to categorize the notes (label / folder / colors)
* option to add images inside the note (not on top of it like a header image, which for some reason most apps do)
* export feature (since I probably won't sign up, I need a way to backup my notes)
Currently I have [ColorNotes ](https://colornote.en.softonic.com/android)app, which is good but it doesn't allow me to add images.
AnyType is nice for PC, but too complex for phone.
**Edit**
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tested each suggested app and I like NotallyX the most. It has all I need, although it adds images as a header, but I can live with that.
trudido seems promising as well, but it has some issues and needs some refinement. I'll save this one for later.

Hello everyone,
Am I the only one to have trouble with the graph view in the desktop (Mac OS) Anytype app?
When I open up the graph view, I see every element on it even though I previously unchecked "Unlinked Object"

Hello again. :-)
I have a query, for example. It contains 150 Objects.
When I scroll down to the middle of the list and then jump into an object (open). Read it and then I want to jump back to the list on the last position. How can I maintain this?
Currently, when jumping back I´m on top of the list again.
Hi there,
I am curerntly migrating my OneNote stuff to Anytype. Most could be done manually. For my diary I coded a python script to import them automatically. Works fine so far.
But what I´m unsure of:
There are many many Objects as I write this for over 10 Years now. So will a large amount of Objects affect the overall performance of a space? I plan currently to only have two:
"Workload" and "Playground", second one just for testing stuff in anytype. First for my "production".
Is there a soft / hard limit of Objects where I should think about splitting it up?

I’ve tried a lot of tools over time, but most of them just add more complexity.
Lately I’ve been sticking to simpler tools that solve one problem well and don’t get in the way.
Here are a few that I’ve actually kept using:
* Sunsama – helps me plan my day without feeling overwhelmed
* Granola – takes meeting notes so I can focus on the conversation
* Shortwave – makes email feel less chaotic
* Anytype – simple note-taking, no distractions
* Cap.so – quick screen recordings for demos or async updates
* Apollo + Clay – useful for building lead lists
* Cold Turkey – blocks distractions when I need deep work
* Loom – faster than typing long explanations
**For setup/side projects:**
* JetHost – I use it for hosting small tools and landing pages, mainly because it’s simple and I don’t have to deal with too many technical issues
* Cloudways – better when I need more control
**Main thing I’ve learned:**
Tools that actually stick are usually the boring ones. They do one job well and don’t try to be everything.

G'day 👋
A new version has been released, sync with the latest original stable codebase from 2026-03-25 of Anytype.
Polished checks for old Mongo without AVX, hardened startup lifecycle management (start/stop), and updated to the latest Go 1.26.1.
Small description:
**any-sync-bundle** is a prepackaged, all-in-one self-hosted server solution designed for [Anytype](https://anytype.io/), a local-first, peer-to-peer note-taking and knowledge management application.
It is based on the original modules used in the official Anytype server, but merges them into a single binary for simplified deployment and zero-configuration setup. It also includes a streamlined storage system (optional) for a single installation as replacement for MinIO.

I have a ToDo query in Anytype where I list all my tasks.
It’s a Kanban flow with **To Do**, **In Progress**, and **Done**.
I would like a function where tasks that are in **Done** are automatically removed after 1 month.
Is that possible?

I'm using my Anytype vault on my computer, but I also want to use it on my iPhone 7, but the Anytype app is only available in an older version on the App Store. I can't open my vault on my iPhone, and I think that's the problem. Is there a way I can open my vault on my iPhone even if it's an older version?
Hello,
I'd like to have an automatic report of the tasks I've completed the previous day (business day, if possible).
currently I have a query that shows tasks modified before today that are completed.
The main drawback is I can't update the task without it vanishing from my "done yesterday" view. Fair, I shouldn't update a task that is done, but I like to add context for future use.
So the question is: is it planned to add a system field on Tasks for when it was marked Done?

Right now, I have to log out to change the storage type. I have the impression that the setting applies to the entire application and not to the individual storage space.
I have to admit that the plans (and the differences between the old and new ones) are a little unclear to me.

Hi there, it said that in the Desktop 0.47.0 release this feature should be working:
# Calendar Drag and Drop
You can now drag and drop objects in the Calendar when using a custom date property.
But for me it's not working. What am I doing wrong? Here is a short 19 second video demonstrating the issue.

Hi, wanted to go local and stop using Obsidian (which i had trouble getting to work) and not turn to Notion. I really really tried Capacities and Anytype but got so frustrated with some basic things. With Capacities I could only import one file at a time. I have about 1500. With Anytype I could edit files unless I have the app installed and since I teach classes and sometimes I use computers where it doesn’t make sense to install software just for me it will not work.
I also need some type of database functionality for lesson reflection and analyzing.
Frustrated.
Seems I have to reluctantly use Notion.
Any suggestions?

Приветствую всех.
Хочу спросить совета у тех, кто уже нашёл для себя удобную программу для ведения заметок на Windows.

Hi,
I need help on how to set up backup of all my data from the current Anytype Desktop Client (Windows v0.54.9 and Android v0.45.8). I am running a self-hosted server, so how will my backup change in this case?
Additional Context: I am using these instructions (https://github.com/anyproto/any-sync-dockercompose) to run a Docker based server locally on a Windows machine.
Hi, i wanted to move away from Obsidian and liked the Object based PKM system, but i need to access my notes from different computers at work where it's not reasonable to install the app. How do you access your notes from other locations?
I also looked at Capacities, but that has an absurd lack of import function. I will have to start using reluctantly Notion.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I love Anytype desktop so much. for the backspace, previously, I use backspace to delete former letters and, when a block is no content, remove text style i.e. list, checkbox. Recently, I think since version 0.54.+, I found the backspace is not remove text style but do and invert indent instead which is not intuitive for me, and press undo is not fix this but make indent & line more messy.
Did I miss something, it's a bug or feature. Is there some workaround to get the old feature ?

Description: Clicking works fine, but using tab hotkeys does not work! Super neat idea though, and it goes along with my usual web browser workflow. Cant wait for vertical tabs.
Until now, I was using Obsidian because it has interesting features like the graph of everything. Last week, however, I discovered [Anytype](https://anytype.io/). It has the same graph system as Obsidian, and is as user-friendly as Notion. It even has a feature like types that could be interesting to create character sheets and so on. Moreover, it can work offline as the application uses a P2P method to sync all your devices.
Does anyone use Anytype for world-building? It doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in this sub, so I was wondering whether it's a good tool or if there's a catch that puts people off using it.

I'm used to the Notion hierarchical page trees - I've mostly had success bending Anytype to a similar format by pinning the different "root" pages. Unfortunately, all of my URLs were converted to bookmarks, so they showed up as sub-objects intermingled with my sub-pages. I went through and converted all of them from Bookmarks to URLs, which solved this.
The only thing remaining is images! It's quite annoying to view my subpages for "Proxmox" and see a random "image.png' listed alongside my sub-pages. Does anyone know of a way to disable this from happening? Even a hacky way is fine by me.

Hi,
I installed the "Integrated Library" from the Gallery into my Space. Unfortunately this not only renamed my space but also gave me a lot of new Types, that now overwhelm me (I just started with Anytype).
I tried again with the "Recipe Book and Meal Planner" and the same happened.
Three questions:
1. What's the proper way to install a Type incl. Template from the gallery without messing everything up?
2. How did the author of the "Library" created a Template that allows to insert an Image via URL from the clipboard?
3. Is there a way to copy the imported types and templates from one space to a new fresh space?
Thanks

In all this time using AnyType, this is the first time I've encountered bugs in sequence, and even after completely restarting the app, they keep happening.
I copy or cut text, and it disappears; when I paste, it pastes something else; interacting with tables is no longer possible; changing the color of text causes the app to crash.
The tab system needs to be improved and refined because it's certainly causing so many bugs. Windows 11 updated last version.

Hello everyone! I need a little help with anytype
I'm exploding my head trying to import a bunch of notes. Does anyone know how I can get them to recognize them as tasks or change the type of object to task but i. A bulk way i mean 50 notes to task? I've tried everything, but nothing works for me. I would appreciate any advice you can give me, really. Thank you in advance!
This morning I opened up Anytype and was met with the survey message. I agreed to the survey, sent it, and went back to Anytype. I can't see anything! Like there is no UI, I only see a grey background. I can see and click on the settings on the top left corner in the menu bar, but nothing appears. I quitted e relaunched, I see the white circles of the splash screen and then nothing. I restarted my MacBook, updated to the latest version, uninstalled reinstalled, but I still cannot see anything! After reinstalling it still doesn't show anything, it doesn't ask me to log into the vault. Please I need urgent help!

I'm using Anytype with my family, we're currently 3 of us actively using it and I realize some infos are getting lost when the conversation is getting longer. It's not lost data wise it's lost in the conversation and take some time to retrieve it.
Do you have some tips to pin important messages or is that improvement has already been discussed ?
Would love to hear if that easy to implement. It would be a nice QoL similar to the search option.

I had been back and forth with Anytype since last year, and it is really really awesome. But I, still cant get my head wrap around it, my head is just stick with Obsidian, the way my idea and notes can be made and record in just one second. and my hands, my hands are just spoiled to never leave my keyboard.. which both of these aspect are something i still find so hard to achive in Anytype.
in Anytype, i feel like i dont get to make whatever note i want at the moment, i have to sort of think through it a bit. so instead of this in Obsidian:
Ideas > record Notes > (manage the note later)
its more like this in Anytype:
Ideas > record Notes > what type of Notes should this be > what attribute/properties should i get for this > (ideas drifted)
I am not sure, as i still havent get completely started wtih Anytype, i have a Anytype space where i just keep taking some non-important notes, and try to test the water, and try out how it feel if i were really using it day-to-day, so please correct me or suggest how i should be using it if i am doing it wrong Orz.
as for the second aspect - Keyboard, well.. there are quite a lot T\_T..
1. There is no Global Command prompt like in Obsidian Ctrl + P :(((
2. The control with keyboard up down left right sometime not working, and overall just doesnt work well :( espacially when it come to created blocks and moving into next new line below, or when you created a new note, and try to type the second line.
Lastly, i am also looking into how to Self-Host, and about that.. so far in my life, my first server was an old thinkpad laptop i reinstall it wtih like ubuntu server on it and ran minecraft server there once with tailscale. So with this knowledge so far.. my thinking is if its possible to set up anytype+tailscale way as well, but i find there are very few sources online, and im not sure which one really is it. I heard that for anytype self-host, i def need to install some mongoDB stuffs, but further than that, im a bit lost as in how to set it up with tailscale. if anyone have any experience with this, may i please have you help to brief it a bit, i will do further research with your guide and some keywords Orz. below are some resources i found related to SH with Anytype:

Please made any suggestion or correct me if im wrong on some experiences i had. Appreaciated for your time to read :) I wish one day i can move from Obsidian to Anytype fully.

Reddit can work as a makeshift personal knowledge repository—plenty of people use it that way by creating private subreddits (or just saving/bookmarking posts in their own profile), posting notes to themselves, or building collections via saved threads. It's free (with Premium perks like better search), searchable, supports markdown/images/links, and you already know the interface.
But honestly, \*\*it's rarely the actual "winner"\*\* for dedicated personal knowledge storage in 2026. Most folks who seriously build a "second brain" or long-term knowledge base move away from Reddit because of several limitations.
\### Quick Pros/Cons of Reddit for Personal Knowledge Storage
\*\*Pros\*\*:
\- Super familiar UI (no learning curve)
\- Easy to post text, images, links, polls
\- Search + saved items (Premium helps with better organization/search)
\- Can make private subreddits for fully personal use
\- Syncs across devices via the app/web
\- Free tier is usable
\*\*Cons\*\*:
\- Not designed for structured knowledge (no real folders, databases, bi-directional links, graphs, or easy outlining)
\- Search is mediocre for deep/personal use (especially older saves)
\- Everything is post/comment-based → hard to edit/reorganize large bodies of knowledge fluidly
\- Risk of shadow-bans, API changes, or platform policy shifts affecting access
\- No offline access, no local-first storage, no plugins/customization
\- Feels more like a social/public tool than a private brain extension
If you're just dumping random thoughts, articles, and quick notes without needing advanced connections/retrieval, Reddit can suffice short-term. But for anything resembling a real \*\*personal knowledge management (PKM)\*\* system, dedicated tools outperform it by a wide margin in 2026.
\### Stronger Alternatives Most People End Up Preferring
Here are the current top contenders based on what's dominating discussions and reviews right now (early 2026):
1. \*\*Obsidian\*\* — Still the community favorite for power users
Local markdown files → full control, offline, plugins for everything (dataview, calendars, kanban, AI integrations, graph view). Free core app, sync via your own cloud or paid Obsidian Sync.
2. \*\*Notion\*\* — Best all-in-one if you want databases + pages + wikis
Extremely flexible (pages, databases, templates, embeds). Great for visual organization. Free for personal use (with generous limits), but can feel bloated/slow for pure notes.
3. \*\*Logseq\*\* — If you like outlines and daily notes flow
Open-source, local-first, block-based (similar to Roam/Obsidian but more outline-focused). Strong for networked thought and queries.
4. \*\*Heptabase / Tana / Kosmik\*\* — The newer visual/AI-powered wave
These emphasize whiteboards, mind-map style canvases, AI auto-organization, and fluid idea connection. Heptabase and Tana especially popular for visual thinkers right now.
5. \*\*Anytype / Capacities\*\* — Privacy-focused, object-based alternatives
Local-first like Obsidian but with more Notion-like databases and nicer default aesthetics.
6. \*\*Evernote / OneNote\*\* — If you want something simpler/traditional
Still solid for pure note hoarding + OCR/search, but feel dated compared to the networked tools above.
7. \*\*Craft / Bear\*\* — Clean, beautiful writing experience
Great middle ground if you mostly write long-form notes.
Many people run \*\*multi-tool stacks\*\* in 2026 (e.g., Readwise/Reader for highlights → Obsidian/Notion for core vault → something visual like Heptabase for synthesis).
If you tell me more about what kind of knowledge you're storing (articles/highlights? code snippets? daily journaling? research notes? visual mind-maps? heavy AI summarization?), how much structure vs. freeform you want, whether you care about offline/privacy/local files, budget, etc.—I can narrow it down to 2–3 best fits for you.
Reddit's convenient, but it's almost never the long-term winner once people taste a proper PKM tool. What exactly are you hoping to store and retrieve most often?

Downloaded the app to my lap but when i tried to install it to my mobile and playstore doesn't even shows the app when search for it. So i was wondering do any of you guys know a trusted site i can download the apk....
Hi !
I'm new to Anytype and I ran into a slight issue.
So I created two spaces :
1. A space for my sewing projects and my clothing
2. A space for my coding projects
In my sewing space, I've a page for my clothing brand and a subpage in which I roughly describe the website for it. I want to create a link in this page to the website's page in my coding projects' space.
Basically :
Clothing brand subpage (sewing part) -> Clothing brand page (coding part)
The only way I found was to have a URL link (Anytype URL)
Is there another way ?
Thanks in advance.

Well, so far I have transferred my entire main database from Capacities and Coda into one application, so far everything is extremely convenient, I spent a couple of days adapting the custom CSS a little to my preferences (but there is still a lot to fix).
But so far it is a great application, there would be a version for the iPad with a normal desktop-like experience, because there is currently a stretched iOS application, which is sad, and it would be great in general.
A very flexible and adaptive structure, and at the same time the ability to edit the design myself, allows me to reach the level of knowledge base + project tracker that suits me.
Of course, there are many things I would like to see in the future, such as saving my structures as a frame sample instead of the entire page, and fields that are slider selectors, but for now the app has almost everything I need to monitor my progress on making art, as well as have a private wiki.

I just want my main page which i customized to open first whenever I open the app. I have everything in my main page like university page, tech page, to do tasks, notes page, etc. All pages in one place.
So whenever I open the app, i wish my main page directly opens like notion instead of having to select a space, and then again select my main page.
Its just so bothersome having to click two times to get into my main page every single time.
I like spaces but i don't think that should be the first thing we need to see whenever we open the app.
Let me know if you guys feel the same as well :)

How do you handle it when you need to quickly create notes, ideas, or pages in your space for which you don't yet have a query or collection? This happens to me from time to time, and as a result, I end up with many pages, some of which are important, that aren't really categorized anywhere. I can always find them through search, but I don't really have a designated place for them. This makes my space quite disorganized, and I would really like at least one catch-all area where I can quickly sort them into suitable categories. Can you guys share your best practice?

Hello guys!
I'd like to know if there is a way to make a data visualization as a collapsed list.
Here's an example: a set of pages for each month and each company with its total value of monthly sales. So the visualization should appear in columns like "yyyy-mm" "company A" "total value" "status", but many inputs may turn the visualization really messy.
Is there a way to divide this view by companies with it's monthly pages showing inside it?
Did anyone had a similar need? How did you make it work?

As a researcher from Portugal, I am genuinely saddened by the lack of pt-PT (European Portuguese) in Anytype.
It is a brilliant application, but it is deeply disappointing that a project based in Switzerland—positioning itself as the European alternative to US tech giants—neglects a primary European language.
I must be clear: the Brazilian variant is not an alternative for us; it is a different linguistic identity. To see a fellow European initiative ignore our specific grammar and culture feels like a betrayal of the project's own values of digital sovereignty and local identity.
For a tool that aims to be my "home" for ideas, it’s a shame it doesn’t speak my language. Are there any plans to fix this, or is the European market only partially a priority?

Hello everyone,
I am a researcher in Chemistry, specifically focused on electrochemistry and materials science. For a long time, I have been searching for a digital tool that aligns with my professional needs while respecting my core values: privacy, security, and digital sovereignty.
I must say, Anytype is a breath of fresh air. I am particularly impressed by the "local-first" philosophy, the fact that it is open source (source available), and its European/Swiss origins. It feels like a robust and trustworthy ecosystem for my laboratory notes, experimental data, and technical diagrams.
However, as an academic, my workflow relies heavily on specific scientific tools. I was wondering if the team or the community could share any insights regarding the roadmap for the following:
Native Zotero Integration: Is there a plan for a native connection or a dedicated plugin/widget to manage bibliographic references? Handling citations seamlessly is crucial for my research notes.
Quarto (.qmd) and Typst Support: I am increasingly moving away from traditional editors towards Quarto and Typst for scientific documentation. Are there any plans to allow the rendering, execution, or at least better handling of these formats within Anytype?
Anytype is a brilliant application, and having these features would make it the ultimate "second brain" for the scientific community.
Keep up the fantastic work!
Cheers from Portugal.

Hello everyone! I'm looking for a note-taking/text editor for quick notes during client calls.
Requirements:
* rich text (formatting, headings, lists, bold/italic)
* full-text search across all notes
* easy image insertion (screenshots, photos) right into the text
* local-first / offline (no lag, works without internet)
* preferably fast to launch and doesn’t freeze
So far Obsidian suits me best, but maybe there's something even better for Mac?
Already tried Notion, Obsidian, Anytype, AppFlowy, AFFiNE, Logseq, Trilium.
Any other recommendations?

Heey AnyType users
I like the product its very fast and convenient.
I have a few questions or discussion about:
Context:
Coming from onenote, hierarchy folder based?
As example
A folder layout:
Business/Repairs/consoles/Xbox, playstation,switch
Under each folder there can be:
Notes, pages, videos, images.
I found out you need to make in anytype:
Collections?
Then use filter and introduce a property called parent?
But my problem is the view, in the app.
Imagine having 10.000 pages?
Then I get into pages overview and a load of pages are shown how to quickly find a page?
I understand use a inline query and use tags?
I made a main page and put there a card so let's say:
Page: business
Has 1 card repairs as collection.
When you. Click on repairs you come on another page with a collection view named consoles?
Then I relate page repairs has parent business.
Then I relate page consoles has parent repairs
Under consoles collections I see then Xbox, playstation switch as 3 cards? Trick using self made property parent. Which don't exist.
Is this the way to go?
It seems not convenient this way. It's a lot of work lol.
Second question:
What the advantage over block editor Vs markdown?
Why not all is markdown?
I also used and seen Appflowly it's like this but fully paid for a lot of features they also use block style objects?
It seems I can't get it working in a tree view, I can imagine tree view is hard for this software cause it's based on graphs flow and data architecture so reocvurrnce issues and probably recursion troubles?

As the title mentions, I'm looking to figure out what hardware I should start my self-hosting journey with.
For a little context, I've done some research and seen people starting with old laptops, mini pcs and a raspberry pi. What I haven't really been able to determine is why one choice might be better than others based on where someone ***thinks*** their self-hosting journey will go.
To start, I'd like to be able to host **Immich** and **Anytype** but I'd like to be able to quickly move on to **Jellyfin/Plex**, a file storage/syncing solution and **HomeAssistant**.
I have an old MacBook Pro from like 2010 but I don't think that would be a great start even if I could get it to turn back on.
What did you consider when starting your self-hosting journey? What would you change about how you started knowing where the journey has taken you?
Thanks for any advice or assistance you can provide.

**I used Codex + Anytype's MCP server to audit and clean up my entire vault — here's the workflow**
I've been using Anytype for about two years, mainly to track AI and development content I'm learning. Over time it became completely unmanageable — hundreds of objects with overlapping topics, outdated notes, and empty entries. Cleaning it up by hand was hopeless.
So I pointed Codex (OpenAI's tool, running Claude under the hood) at my vault through Anytype's API/MCP server, using the $20/month plan. It took a few rounds of back and forth, but it produced a curated list of candidates I can review and select for bulk deletion.
The audit flags things like:
\- Stale or outdated tech content
\- Redundant and duplicate objects
\- Empty snippets, missing URLs, and broken links
\- Duplicate titles and canonical URL variants
Once I'm done pruning, the next step is having it help structure the remaining content and merge anything that overlaps. Really useful workflow!

Right now when we create a new type we need to pin it to see the objects created from that type. I could see why this was added. But it gets annoying super fast when you have a lot of types and need to pin each of them to see their contents in the sidebar. It feels hacky in some way. Is it possible for the devs to add a setting that allows the sidebar to look like how it was previously displaying all the objects associated with their types?

I remember there used to be a way to rename Relations in AnyType, but I can't seem to find that option anymore. Has something changed in the recent updates, or am I just missing it? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have used it on a personal basis for around 3 years. Big fan, of course. Never collabed though. Now my job is looking at a new software for collaboration and notetaking. Notion and Anytype have come up as options. We are around 250 people. Does anyone have experience working with Anytype in large teams? Grateful for feedback.
UPDATE: i built it, [see comment below](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1rmrvt8/comment/o98u5cy)
This week I tried affine, appflowy, and anytype. All interesting projects, and all have their strengths, but all of them seem to treat databases as a secondary concern. Coming from notion this seems wild to me. On top of that they all feel like they have one foot in self-hosted and one foot in SaaS. I'm trying to self host a notion alternative, not just sign on with another version of them.
The thing I keep coming back to is that Notion got one thing really right that none of the others seems willing to fully commit to. A page and a database row are the same thing. Open a row and it's a page. View a page through a grid and it's a row. That one decision makes relations, linked views, and filters across databases work and feel natural. Every alternative that treats them as separate concepts either ends up with like a split personality where neither side feels right, or just clearly didn't prioritize it as something that needed to be present. And sure i'm seeing open feature request for some of these items but like, you add AI integration before you add proper db item linking???
So anyway I'm thinking about putting something together, nothing exists yet, im still at the noodling on design architecture stage and how i would tackle this, and wanted to see if anyone here would actually use something like this before I actually commit to trying to throw it together.
So far here's a few things I'd do differently:
* Relational databases as the actual core of the thing, not an addon.
* Fully open-source and self-hostable, no central server that needs to know your workspaces exist (i imagine if folks like this, it could be worth setting up a cloud hosting thing like how folks offer like wordpress or mastodon and things like that, and anyone else would be able to do the same). A workspace is just a server instance running somewhere,
* your client holds a list of servers you've connected to. Join one via an invite link. You could have your personal home server, your work instance, and some community workspace all in the same sidebar, all completely isolated. Kind of like how email clients work, you just point it at a server, it doesn't need to know about any other server you use.
* works with whatever OIDC provider you already run (Authentik, Keycloak, etc) or just email/password out of the box if you don't have anything set up.
* Docker deploy.
Before I go any further though, genuinely curious: is the database thing actually the blocker for you with the existing options, or am I just scratching my own itch?

HI!
I've been using Anytype for a few days now. The goal is to have a customer agenda and a record of consultations/appointments.
**There is a possibility of creating a table where I can upload personal data and link it to another table where I can put appointment information: reason for the consultation, date, etc?**
I was able to achieve something like this in Notion, but I want an app that offers 100% self-hosting for the privacy of the information.
I hope you can help me, thank you!

minimum real improvements since buying Cron, still not able to share availability or even existing slots on mobile, and integrating with notion databases super clunky.. seriously just considering Vimcal + Anytype...
I used many apps similar to Anytype for years. I'm considering using it for all my projects.
But storage and sync plans are underwhelming and very limiting.
For 5$ a month we can get only 1GB of remote storage?
10GB for **10$** per month?
Why?
I know Anytype should make money and I do want it to grow, but this way you are incentivising people who work with others to self-host or just use something else. I have few images in my documents and I'm up to 59mb out of 100mb on a free plan. I just started using it.
It will probably make more sense for people to just get a Digital Ocean droplet with 50GB space for 5$ and run AnyType from there.
Affine for example gives 10GB storage for FREE plans.
Then it offers 100GB of cloud storage for 8$ a month.
If you made your plus plan a 10GB and PRO at least 50GB that would make sense for more people. And you would still make more money.
Users slowly growing their projects will have more space to work and onboard new users. And probably stay on the platform.

Hi everyone,
I am a Chemistry researcher based in Portugal (specialising in materials and electrochemistry). Recently, there has been a significant push within our academic circles toward **European digital sovereignty**, moving away from proprietary formats in favour of Open Source, Markdown, and LaTeX.
I am trying to transition my entire workflow, but I am hitting a few roadblocks. Here is what I have so far and where I’m struggling:
# 1. Current Successes
* **Reference Management:** Successfully migrated from EndNote to **Zotero**.
* **Office Suite:** Moving from Microsoft 365 to **LibreOffice/OnlyOffice**.
# 2. The Challenges
* **Lab Notes & Sync:** I use **Zettlr** for Markdown-based lab notes and ideas. However, I need a reliable way to access/edit these on an Android tablet while in the lab.
* **Data Analysis & Graphing:** I currently use **OriginPro**. I tried **LabPlot**, but it doesn't quite meet my requirements yet. I am learning **Python and R**, but the learning curve is steep, and I need to remain productive in the meantime.
* **Writing & AI:** I use **VS Code** for programming and LaTeX because the AI integration significantly speeds up my work. I’ve tried **LyX** and **TeXstudio**, but they feel outdated without AI assistance. Is there a European-based IDE or editor that bridges this gap?
* **Cloud Storage & Hosting:** I need a secure, European (ideally Swiss) home for my data. I am considering **Nextcloud** (via **kDrive** or **Shadow Drive**) for the storage space. **Proton** is excellent but quite expensive for the full suite, and I found **Anytype**'s pricing/syncing model a bit complex for my needs.
# 3. The OS Dilemma
I am currently on **Windows 11**. I’ve tried running **Ubuntu** via a bootable drive, but I still rely on a few legacy programmes that only run on Windows, which forces me back.
# My Goal
I am looking for a workflow that is:
* **Open Source & Private** (Preferably EU/Swiss-based).
* **Cost-effective** (Free or reasonably priced for a researcher).
* **Integrated:** Handles Markdown, LaTeX, and basic administrative Office tasks.
In a field where Microsoft is the "gold standard" in Portuguese universities, breaking away is tough. Does anyone have recommendations for a more cohesive, sovereign setup that doesn't sacrifice too much efficiency?
Cheers!

Hi there!
I'm a new user and still getting a hold on how to work with anytype.
The thing is, I'm trying to create a business operation with a Client channel where i create all the companies pages (as a custom object type) with its data and a separeted Channel where i create the custom object "owners" with their personal information. What i'm trying to do now is to relate those both in each other profiles, where on the "company" channel there is a "company 1" with a relative "owner" or owners that i previously created on the other channel, that i'm trying to relate to and vice-versa.
But after creating those Channels, the models and relations inside them to properly have a Company register with its information and a Owner register as well, i can't seem to understand how to relate those two.
Am i thinking wrong as to have 2 separeted channels (sets) for this? Is there a way to work around it or the only solution is to have both owners and companies registers on the same channel?

Hello Comunity!
About a year ago, I started researching how to degoogleize my life. Now this is my status:
* Mail ---> Tuta
* Browser ---> Brave
* Search ---> Brave
* Photos ---> Ente
* Translate ---> DeepL
* Keyboard ---> Futo
* Weather ---> Breezy-weather
Some things are not from Google, but I have decided to look for options with more privacy and open source:
* Whatsapp ---> SimpleX
* Adobe ---> Stirling-PDF
But here's the issue with this query: **Notes and Calendar**
My goal is to be able to create a template for tracking and monitoring what happens with my clients privately, as there is sensitive data that I don't want anyone else to see, self-hosted. To be able to link to a calendar and keep the information between a phone and my PC, not clouds involved. Perhaps by updating and syncing via Wi-Fi or USB cable.
I'm trying Notation, it's useful but it doesn't offer self-hosting for free...
Does anyone use **Anytype**? Can you link it to a calendar?
*Thanks for reading this, I would be grateful for your contributions.*
*(and I apologize for my English; I can understand it, but I'm not used to writing in this language)*

Two posts in a short amount of time, well sorry.
I'm making a watch list, and I want to make a separate page for favourites, for my watch list, which takes a property from my TV Show/Movies (favourites property) and display the show/movie in this separate page.
What I currently did is:
Collection -> TV Series (I made a type to go with this). Same with movie.
So my question is do I make another collection, and can I only show my favourites there?? I do understand this is quite extra when I can just make a view and filter it. But I was just curious, if anyone knows something help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Strange scaling issues (this is the biggest i can get anytype to be) on Debian 9 with newest flatpak, appimage and the .deb from the website. Also i can interact properly with the ui (look at where my mouse is and what is marked).
Is there a fix for that?
I'm new to Anytype, when clicking to open a page, you have to click the "open" button that pops up to the right of the name. Is there any way to move where this open button appears, such as moving it to the left or being able to click anywhere in the name section to open the page instead of having to specifically click the open button. For some reason it just annoys me that I can't click anywhere in the name section to open the page. thanks

I was looking for any comments in this regard but I couldn't find anything, so figured I could vent a bit and find out if I am the only one a bit surprised at the direction the application is taking.
I always saw AnyType as a not perfect but pretty near local first Notion replacement. It had some rough edges here and there but it was honestly great in many aspects. Then... the last update came in with the chat, the complete changes to the sidebar and the feeling there is no way to build a page hierarchy anymore.
Does anyone else find this incredibly annoying?
If I wanted to take notes into a messy limbo and connect them through labels, objects, types whatever I would be using Obsidian or similar.

Hey guys,
I need an app that I can use for taking my notes. I have tried Notion, but it is a bit laggy on my device.
I need an app with FREE sync with my laptop, should have markdown features (no preview) like notion.
I've also tried Obsidian, but setting up Syncthing on it was a headache so I just dropped it.
I also tried joplin, but I didn't like the markdown preview feature. I need something that instantly converts a shortcut to markdown.
Please suggest me an app.
Edit: Anytype is the best. It is just like notion, UI looks great and its totally FREE.
Also got suggested Zettel Notes as well, it is the second best. It is more like a markdown editor, smooth and really fast.

I like the design and functionalities of notion. But I looking for something similar, that is completely free, open source, can sync between multiple devices, stores the notes locally and has the design and functionalities of notion.
Can you recommend me such a program?
I'm currently testing Joplin. But I don't like the design and that you have to write everything in markdown.
That's one advantage of notion for me.
I read a lot about Anytype, AppFlowly and SiYuan. But I don't know if they have similar functionalities compared to Notion, if they store locally and are completely open source.

Hi guys, new here in anytype (< 1 month user).
I understand v 0.54 created some problems with sync (Local-only issues at https://www.reddit.com/r/Anytype/comments/1r6tjqh/local\_only\_but\_somehow\_not/). My self hosted can't sync anymore and it is quite frustrating. Has anyone experienced the same/resolved the problem?
Hi everyone,
I've been developing a skill for OpenClaw that integrates **OBS Studio** via its WebSocket API. The idea is to control OBS remotely through OpenClaw's MCP interface, enabling voice/text commands and automations.
# What it does
The skill exposes MCP tools (SSE server) to:
* **Scene management**: list, switch, create, delete scenes
* **Source control**: adjust volume, mute, settings
* **Recording/Streaming**: start/stop/toggle, status queries
* **Replay buffer**: save instant clips
* **System stats**: version, CPU/memory/FPS, video settings
* **Transitions**: list and trigger transitions
* **Screenshots**: capture sources programmatically
# Use cases
* **Automation**: schedule scene changes based on calendar events or fixed times
* **Voice control**: "Switch to Camera 1", "Start recording", "Mute Discord"
* **Multi-step workflows**: "Begin presentation" → switch to "Slides Only" scene, mute mic, start recording
* **Monitoring**: periodically fetch OBS metrics and log/report them
* **Integrations**: connect with calendars, Anytype tasks, home automation nodes
# Technical details
* Built with **Node.js/TypeScript**
* MCP server (SSE transport) talks to OBS via `obs-websocket-js`
* Configuration via `.env` (host, port, optional password)
* 147 OBS WebSocket requests mapped to MCP tools
* Intended to run alongside OBS on the same machine (localhost)
# Why ask?
Before polishing and releasing it publicly (MIT license, ready-to-run scripts), I want to gauge interest:
* Would you use such a skill?
* What features would be most valuable to you?
* Any showstoppers or integration needs?
The skill is functional but not yet widely tested. Documentation is in French/English, and it's easily anonymous for safe sharing.
**Examples of natural language commands** (via OpenClaw):
>
If there's interest, I'll clean it up, add more error handling, maybe a quick installer, and share it (GitHub or direct download).
**What do you think?**
*\[Optional: Link to a GitHub repo or a Google Drive zip if available\]*
*(Yes it's french 👀)*

Hello my productivity friends!
I could use some help with my scrambled thoughts. Like many of you, I have used a variety of tools along my quest, but these are what have stuck: Google Calendar, Todoist, Gmail, and Keep. I track books, movies, and games with Capacities and use a separate space within Capacities as well for work stuff. I am a college professor and I like to have a good view of what is coming due with papers, grants, etc. I haven't quite found the best way to handle it though. I know it varies by person and I've tried the main PKM tools. Obsidian, cool, but didn't work for me. Notion, liked it but it's getting a little crazy in there. Anytype, didn't have much success for some reason. That brings me to my current focus on Capacities. It's working well, but again, I'm wondering if I'm missing something or a better way to lay things out for quick views.
I have tried just using Google since most of my work runs through that, but I still would like a 'dashboard' type option for a wider view. I tried creating a Google site, but it just worked ok.
I would appreciate any insight anyone has.
