Watching tonight's game, I couldn't shake a feeling of dejavu, then I realized, I'd seen this game before. I went to it in 2013. In the second game of a double header that was itself delayed by rain, the sox had a post rain-delay game that went past 1 am versus Cleveland.
Game past midnight. Nearly no one still left due to the miserable weather and it being so late. And, to top it off, in both games, the sox go down early/mid in the game. But, in good news, they go up with an explosive 6/7th inning!
One thing leads to another, and for both games, they end up in the same spot. White sox lead, at home, going into the 9th. Everyone wants to go home, the sox came back already, all they need is a bullpen arm to come in and get a very, very reasonable save with a 3 run cushion, because again, it's past midnight. The score? 8-5.
I know, i know. Not too crazy. Til you notice in both games, a white sox pitcher, a rightie with number 31, lets a few across in the ninth, and suddenly, the game is within reach.
The difference? In this game, we took #31 out. In 2013, we left Addison Reed in, and he gave up a homer to former White Sox player Nick Swisher to give Cleveland the lead.
Anyways. I have no point except that it's way too crazy to me that two late night epics carried such closely related scripts. goodnight everyone
